  • I can see some $39 one way flights between Gold Coast and Sydney in April/May too

You can also price beat with Jetstar by 10% if there's a flight within an hour. I did it recently and there were no issues. I prefer to fly with Jetstar and it was justified when the Tiger flight I would have been on was delayed, while the Jetstar one was on time.

Yes, good point around the price beat. I've flown a lot with Tiger over the last few years, they have markedly improved since Virgin bought them.

        Don't forget drinks 5c cheaper @ Dan's

I did this last time, and while the base fair was cheaper, I nearly paid more by the time luggage and seat selection was included.
It's annoying that you can't add the usual Jetstar bundle to price matched fares. Just factor in these costs to ensure it is actually cheaper.

      • Good to know. I didn't need a special seat or extra luggage.

  • Searching for flights in Early/mid May, and prices are $129 each way?

    • where to/from?

      • Sorry, Melbourne to Brisbane.

        • +1

My search brings up many options for dates then @ $59 each way

  • Also BNE-MEL and vice versa for $59.00 each way (pricing starts from late April and into June)

  • Hard to find anything to Cairns. May @85 OW

    • MEL-CNS shows up for $85 for every flight in May on my search

    Lotto Airways!!

  • I'm thinking Syd to Mel return next month sometime. When exactly are the cheaper flights? Not yet experienced at booking deal flights!

    • Not sure if there will be any good sales. The sales for Syd > Melb for Feb were a couple of months ago. $20 flights both ways, so $40 return. Good luck though!

If you were only doing the Great Ocean Rd you could catch the $49 flights to Avalon almost any non-holiday Tue, Wed, Thu with Jetstar. Tullamarine is usually $69 or more.

Avalon is still cost effective for 2 or more backpackers staying near the centre if you Uber for $15 or so to Lara station (8km from Avalon airport) and take the frequent (almost every 20 min) 1 hr train into the city ($4.10 now with a Myki card).

  • Picked up ticks about a week ago. MEL -> BNE $107 in March, after I paid for 20kgs luggage and front row seats! 1A here I come :-)
First time wit Tiger, so I'm not setting my expectations very high.

    • I've flown Tiger twice and maybe I was like you and had low expectations, but I thought they were better than Jetstar. I felt as though there was more room to move around and staff were nice. I have heard horror stories though.

    • You will most likely be pleasantly surprised, Tiger have the highest services departed on time and lowest cancellation rate than their competitors.

They left me stranded in SYD, last flight of the day and offered $15.
Jetstar left me stranded in NZ Queenstown and offered me 5 star hotel.

It's not if something happens. It's what they do if something happens.

Having said that, both airlines are okay for the price lol

  • I've just searched MEL - CNS & heaps of $85 return tickets :-)

Now to work out a date ???

  • Tiger. Never again my flight from bali to perth was changed from 1pm to 1am and from direct to via Sydney so 13.5 hours instead of 3.5 hours. Never again!!! Ever!!!

    • I've flown with Tiger 3 times & never had a problem but have heard of some bad stories…
In saying that I flew with Jetstar to Bali start of November & they were good. Friends flew out recently with Jetstar & their flight was delayed almost 12 hours & had nothing but trouble…
Luck of the draw me thinks…

  • I think they actually never ended the prices from their last sale which ended a few days ago. I was looking at these flights last week and they were the same price (and its was a advertised "sale" then).

  • The sale details were released from Tiger about 1pm AEST today, hopefully some got in early and booked before the general public had access.

Good Luck with Tiger - NEVER AGAIN FOR ME!!
They stopped flying into and out of Bali as they were in breach of their agreement with Indonesia and yet knowingly continued to sell tickets. Thousands are affected by this. They have strung us along for a couple of weeks with no notification of what is happening. I booked my flights a month ago. Finally, four days prior to my flight to Bali, they send an email saying your flights to and from Bali are cancelled, you will be refunded within 48 hours. That was Thursday and it's now Monday and still no refund. Not to mention that I now have a non refundable non changeable hotel booked for $680 and will have to pay inflated prices with Jetstar 4 days out from my trip. BE WARNED!!
I was one of the ones who was always saying I had never had a problem with Tiger but THIS TAKES THE CAKE!

So, you didn't have travel insurance?

      • Ozbargainers don't pay for travel insurance!

        • +1

Not like there could be anything bad that happens on a holiday to Bali.

  • Just booked MEL-BNE in May for $255 for 2 adults (including seat selection).
Thank you OP for this as I was looking at going with Jetstar but it was going to cost me more than $500 for the same dates

  • i don't really bother with seat selection for my mrs and myself, they will allocated you a seat anyways..i do the same with jetstar.

  • Thanks op..3x family return bris to melbs with seats and 20kg checked for $358 on the Anzac long weekend. ..yay

    • Isn't anzac day on a tuesday this year??
