          Lol cute you think that but I've never had an application rejected and as I already have a home loan I don't really care what the 'credit rating' is and somehow I doubt that 12 closed cards with 0 debt on them will affect anything. But you keep protecting your credit rating while I score free money.

          @Duram:

          Nicely said!

          my credit score has gone up in 12 months after 6 CC applications.

        • +1

          @Skramit:

          Apply for this credit card and your score will go up even more.

        • +1

          @Skramit:

          Same. Interestingly, the only credit check in my 8 applications was from AMEX (ANZ x 2, ST George, Citibank, Coles, AMEX x3).

      • For real! Respect.

      • how did you do this? - when I get that second bonus I leave for real for real.

        I tried to do this once with Amex David Jones, once getting the second bonus, trying to leave for real, but they didnt allow me as I have received this bonus

        • They didn't let you cancel your credit card? They can't do that. They can get upset that your a semi screwing them but they can't stop you from cancelling your card.

        • @Duram:

          yes they didnt let me cancel my credit card

        • @fomal: I'm sure that's illegal, stopping you from cancelling your credit card. Now you can sue them and score BIG!

    • +1

      No one on ozbargain would keep this > 12 months. It is against ozbargain code to do so

  • +1

    Aside from the initial point offer - is this card even worth thinking about?

    • +3

      Not really. You get 1 point per $, plus bonus points at a few places. Effectively 0.5 Velocity points per $. There is some insurance cover that you don't see very often (interstate flights and domestic hotel burglary), but other than that the insurance seems pretty standard for a platinum card.

      I made up this table in a previous discussion with illumination, taken from my spreadsheet to compare some of our popular cards for long term use. It gives an idea of how points accrued from the card from a modest $28k spend (spread across major supermarkets, retail, bills and petrol) can be transferred into common gift cards (such as Coles, Caltex, etc). Others may find it works out better for them to use the points for sale or travel benefits. It doesn't take into account startup bonus points or waived annual fees or the possible benefit of travel freebies. Also some cards rely heavily on using the Amex for purchases for maximum points. Of course, it is aimed towards my spending habits ($15k major supermarkets, $6k small retail, $4k bills and $3k petrol) which is different for everybody.

      Just added this card in which demonstrates it doesn't compete well as a long term card in my circumstances.

      • How does one get 59k ascent points for amex by spending 28k (2.1 point per $) ? Amex Edge: 3 Membership Rewards points earned per $ spent at supermarkets, 2 points earned per $ on fuel, and 1 point per $ everywhere else except for utilities and the ATO

        • the Edge has the 3,2,1,0.5 point spread which has been placed in my spreadsheet ($15k major supermarkets (3 pt), $6k small retail (1pt), $4k bills (0.5pt) and $3k petrol (2pt).

      • Excellent comparison. Will have to sign up for the Coles Fee Free MC for the price protection.

        • @R3XNebular: If you're considering using it for your main spend (and not just as a secondary card for the odd big purchase where your specifically want PP) then consider getting the Coles Rewards card with the annual fee (second column), it has the same PP but also no forex fees and 4x the points which works out to be 1% back instead of 0.25%. if you spend a lot on it (break even tipping point is about $12k / year) then the annual fee is well worth it. if not then it's not!

  • Do people actually know how the credit score works? Like how exactly do you make your score go up aside from paying on time?

    • I believe the point is to prevent it from going down, from there generally takes i believe 6? years of bad behavior to get wiped off your records.

    • +1

      Paying on time does not make your score go up.
      however not paying on time will make your score go down, at some time in the future, i suspect 5-10 years from now that will be fully adopted.

    • Frequent unsecured credit application (credit card, personal loan) will make your credit score go down. I have a yearly subscription with a Veda product and I can see my score goes down after applying an Amex card.

      • How bad does it have to be to not be approved for a loan, if otherwise your income meets the repayments?

        Is 0 a bad score or an average score?

        Frequent unsecured credit application (credit card, personal loan) will make your credit score go down.

        If your application is rejected does it still go down, or is it only if it gets approved and you get the card? Does closing off a card also reduce your score?

        Mine's been shot to crap in the past 12 months. Sold my house and canceled the platinum cards since they were linked to home loan package. Then applied for AMEX Essential card and 28 Degrees. Then applied for CBA Mastercard for $250 cashback and intend to close that one off. Was thinking about getting this also since my council rates are due in full soon. Also have a Coles Mastercard from years ago for $50 free shop, but never actually activated it.

  • +3

    might wait til next month to apply for this..ive successfully applied for 5 CC's this month

  • I got a nab platinum card last year to get the bonus points and cancelled the card couple of months ago. I wonder if I can get this deal with bonus points again???

    • I guess. It's a different card.

      "Offer is not available when closing/transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB offer."

  • Sorry if it's already been asked but how do you turn these Reward points into Velocity points? I couldn't find anything on the website. Thanks

  • Note: Interest free period is 44 days as opposed to usual 55 days.

  • +1

    Not near as good as the CBA Mastercard deal which is still running. You only have to spend $500 to get $250 back as opposed to $2500 to get erm.. $400 and some change?

    Anyone know what is the minimum income needed to be approved? Also, can you combine it with an AMEX card?

    • CBA cards excludes bpay for points

  • Anyone know if BPay is counted as a cash advance on this card?

  • +1

    Can I apply to this offer AND NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card - 75K QFF offer (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/287995) at the same time? and get the rewards

    • +1

      why negs? genuine question …

  • +2

    For those wondering about the transfer of points: while you will get 40k points from an 80k transfer, Velocity tend to run a 15% bonus twice a year (in May and November) which effectively means that you can effectively get 46k points if you time your transfer appropriately.

    • +1

      Nice tip, thanks.

  • For anyone that applied for this card, did they receive a confirmation email after submitting everything and receiving a reference number? Thankyou (didn't receive anything and paranoid I typed my email address incorrectly).

    • +1

      got an sms that application was successful and card will be in mail for the next 5days

    • Have you received the card yet? I also applied online, but for some reason never received the email confirmation…

      Has anyone faced the same situation?

      • Give them a call. Personal experience, did not receive card, multiple phone calls, 2 branch visits later, finally resolved. Some security breach with the account being locked, but they wouldn't tell me the specific reason why. Even more bizzare are I have an active NAB transaction account. I did receive a SMS stating my application was successful days later. Hope it is a more simple explanation for you.

  • So if i sigb up and spend. When do the points come?

  • I just applied for the Westpac Altitude Black and succeeded. Do you recommend I wait a bit to apply for this (if it's too soon) or should I just go for it now?

    I guess there's no harm in waiting. I can finish my $2500 spend on the other card then work with this one.

  • For anyone curious here's the partner transfer rate as obtained by Ausbt:

    pretty good deal for $400 worth points! I am a bit confused about the words "everyday purchases". "80,000 BONUS POINTS when you spend $2,500 on everyday purchases within 90 days " Whats considered as everyday purchases? Is paying bills via bPay considered as everyday purchases? Or just use your Cc everyday?

    • Did you find out the answer?

      • not yet. But I'm pretty sure bPay is considered as everyday purchases but I will call NAB soon to find out.

        • I assume whatever you can pay for using your credit card number. But would exclude things like online bookmakers, cash advances, etc

        • +1

          I've just called them. Was actually waiting for you to do it because I was too lazy but when an answer did not seem forthcoming I decided to call during my lunch break.

          Everyday purchases includes everything except:

          • Overseas purchases (this is strange since it normally attracts triple points)
          • Gambling
          • Payments to the ATO.

          That means bills and council rates are eligible for the bonus points.

          Additionally I asked if you could link an AMEX card to this Rewards card like you can do with other banks. They said no.

        • @lostn: cheers for that. I will probably apply in few weeks

    • Did anyone read the T&C's? I assume "everyday purchases" are anything that doesn't come under their "What Transactions Don't Earn Points?" heading.

      WHAT TRANSACTIONS DON’T EARN POINTS?
      There are some goods and services which you can purchase using your card which won’t earn points because they aren’t eligible for the purposes of NAB Rewards. They are:
      (i) cash advances (which include bills paid over the counter at a bank, financial institution or post office, and the purchase of travellers cheques);
      (ii) interest charges and other bank fees and charges (including any GST payable on any of these) applicable to your rewards card account or use of the card or to NAB Rewards;
      (iii) transactions where the card is used to make payments to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) (including related fees and charges);
      (iv) balance transfers;
      (v) transactions where a card is used to access linked transaction accounts;
      (vi) purchase of foreign exchange or travellers cheques and money orders;
      (vii) for a personal rewards card account, transactions we decide are wholly or partly for business purposes; and
      (viii) transactions for gambling and gaming purposes (examples include purchase of lottery tickets purchases of gaming chips or tokens and online gambling).

  • Woot approved. Now to go spend $2500 on a holiday

  • Does the payment for insurance, council rates and car rego which will be bill pay count towards the daily spent requirement of $2500 spent otherwise cant think would be able to spend $2500 in 90 days ?

    • +1

      Sell something to yourself on ebay. Collect bonus points. Redeem for gift cards. Reverse transaction, give "refund" to yourself. Cancel card.

      For me, council rates, rego and insurance are all due soon. That will be my route.

    • SuperSonic, they all would be ok, but Council rates usually will charge you a CC fee. EG poss. 1% for Visa/Mastercard up to about 3% for AMEX.

  • Application declined. Even though I pay all my credit cards in full every month. Feelsbadman.

    Must be my recent application and total number of cards. (Applied and approved for Westpac Altitude Black 1 month ago)

    • How many cards do u have all up?

        • Amex Qantas Discovery
        • 28 Degrees
        • HSBC Platinum
        • Westpac Altitude Black

        Too much?

        Total balance is $1200 (no interest paid, it's all recent purchases. Autopaid in full every month). Max credit limit is $35000ish. Never even utilised more than $3k.

        • Hmm I don't think that's a lot of cards to get denied for another one. I have a similar amount. I'll give this card a crack and see if I get approved

        • That's not a lot since I got approved considering I have the following credit cards:
          - ANZ Travel Adventure
          - AMEX Platinum Edge
          - Jetstar Platinum
          - St George Platinum
          - Coles Mastercard
          Same as you, I pay all balance in full every billing period. Current owing balance when I applied was $9K which I can max $35K so it's a bit strange that you got declined

        • @melay0326: What's your newest card and how long ago did you apply for it?

          Maybe it's because I only applied and got my Westpac Altitude Black 1 month ago?

        • @Zaenille:
          newest card is the ANZ Travel Adventure which i applied last month to replaced the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black.. also closed Westpac Altitude Black last September after getting the bonus points

        • @melay0326: I've just closed my Anz frequent flyer black account too… did you sign up with any deals for the anz travel card? Sorry had to ask here, unable to msg you.

        • @hashtagbargain: yeah i had those free return flight and 40K bonus velocity points though you have to pay annual for this $225. It's good for me coz i lived in Perth and return flight to East coast cost more than $225 so it offsets for me. I love travelling overseas and shopping online too so the no foreign transaction charge makes it even better card

        • "Max credit limit is $35000ish"

          This could be the problem. Depends on your income/credit history/ other loans?, but that's a decent credit limit already.

    • check your veda score.
      i heard NAB automatically declines application if score is lower than 500

    • I've been rejected for a credit card once (funnily enough it was the first deal I posted on OzB). After a bit of research it looked like the issue was not my combined credit limit, but because I had applied for too many credit cards in the last 3-4 months.

      I usually check Experian score before applying for a card but I didn't realise I had more checks with Dun & Bradstreet which led to the rejected application. I now check my score with all 3 (Veda, Experian, Dun & Bradstreet) before applying for a new card. And I also spread out my card applications making sure not to apply for more than 2 cards in a 3 month period.

  • do you can points if you pay the ato user the personal and business nab rewards card? is the return higher than the 0.54% ato fee?

    • +3

      Slow down and repeat

  • -1

    Does anyone know if paying rent through DEFT count as cash advances or not considered an eligible purchase for this credit card?

  • 44 days interest free is crap.
    No Android/Apple Pay

    • 44 days is standard for bank issued gold/platinums.

      The only card I have that supports Android Pay is my AMEX issued Essential card. All the bank CCs I have are not compatible, nor is 28 degrees.

  • +2

    Can anyone login to NAB rewards? I just activated my card, and every time I try to login on the rewards site it has my sign in to main online portal. The rewards site doesn't change to show I logged in, nor does it appear can I access rewards from the main online portal.

    • +2

      same here

      • +1

        same here…

        • got email regarding 1st statement and nabrewards is working now :)

        • @droodle: Not working for me.

    • Same here. Has anyone called NAB to enquire. NAB Internet banking and website is horrible. Their rewards page advises to login via Internet banking, which opens in new tab and than you are in Internet banking. How to check rewards but ???

  • I closed a NAB credit card account a bit over a year ago, would I be eligible for this? Can't seem to find any info regarding previously held NAB credit cards. Cheers

  • +1

    How many days it normally takes for the bonus points to come through? I already used $3000 in the first 2 days.

    • +1

      So keen to know as well as I spent more than the minimum too on the 3rd day.

      • -3

        It's written in the terms and conditions…

        Am I the only one that reads this nowadays?

  • Is there's minimum timeframe since closin a previous cc with nab?

  • Does anyone know how to actually sign into the rewards store? it just says login from internet banking or NAB Connect, but logging in under internet banking i can't see any link to get to the store??

    edit: just saw the same issue a few comments back…

    • I have the same issue. Did you sort it out?

      • +1

        yeah have to click on "My Cards" when you are on online banking, then you can see redeem rewards on that page.

        • +1

          They have done an exceptional job at hiding the redeem points option. Why not give a login option on Rewards page itself and show you balance on the top. Even in Internet banking they ended up sneaking it under My Cards. I have been googling for weeks where to check NAB rewards. As always OzBargain to the rescue! Thanks.

  • It is a brand New cc type by NAB and I assume Anyone will qualify unless you have The same card previously

  • Does anyone know how to check your rewards points balance? It says to log into Netbanking to check. But I log in, and it doesn't say anywhere what your balance is.

    Even if you go to rewards.nab.com.au to redeem your points, it just makes you log into netbanking. There's nothing to redeem from there.

    NAB website is pretty terrible.

    • From memory, you click on My Card, and it's on the right

      • rewards appears under my cards - and mine didn't until i received my 1st statement.

  • Bonus points applied … noice work NAB no waiting 3 months :)

    • +1

      How long after the minimum purchase did you have to wait?

    • and how did/will you spend it? :)
