  • Ordered. Thanks!

  • Bought one year ago for $125 with $20 discount. Works well till now.

  • been looking for a portable harddrive to store more of my 'pawn' movies. LOL

My 1TB and 2TB versions of these both died well inside 12 months on me. Officeworks were good about offering a refund. They both had the same issues, after 3 & 5 months they begun making weird noises when transferring data, then progressed to when accessing files the drive would start making a loud clicking noise, before freezing and eventually dying.

No issues with any of the WD or Seagate desktop/portable drives I currently have though.

I'm a sample size of 1 here, however, so take that for what you think it's worth.

    • +2

Make that a sample size of 2 - Started using my 2TB Canvio Basic (DTP120) ~3 weeks ago, and it's already begun to make the 'Clicking' noise (usually an early warning sign of Hard Drive failure)

    • I have a Toshiba 1TB in an ADATA case for a few years and it died recently. Put it in a Orico case and it's working again. I don't have mine connected all the time, only when I actually need them.

Can't understand why the seller just not say if it's 2.5' or 3.5'

    • 3.5 inches = 88.9mm. This drive is 79mm wide, a 3.5 inch drive wouldn't fit.

    • It's 2.5" :-)

As a general rule if you see "Portable" it's generally USB powered and smaller meaning a 2.5" HDD however it's always best to double check as you have done :-)

  • any eBay promotion code atm?

    • Nothing for computing category or for this seller no.

  • The drive pictured is actually the Canvio Ready. Not the Canvio Basics. Click the links below to see the difference.

Canvio Ready Chic dotted pattern. Designed for security.
Canvio Basics Smooth matt black finish.

You will have to check with Officeworks to determine which drive they are actually selling.

    • Product Code: TO2TBCANBA

      (TOshiba 2TB CANvio BAsics)

The right product code so should be all good, also mentions basics in the title and has previous purchases on that listing when basics was $117. The OW website link is the same as previous basics deals, strange about the photos though, might be a photo update not realising they have a slightly different model?

  • I purchased one in store last night, the one I got was the canvio ready. I have noticed that the product in the links has the same dimensions as the canvio ready not the canvio basics.
I don't have any knowledge on portable hard drives, so now I am unsure which of the two models is the better one.

    • In theory, the Canvio Ready since it has a shock sensor to cut the power/park the heads if the drive gets knocked/dropped.

  • For anyone worried about issues with these, I haven't seen many come back in the two years I've been with OW.

I've actually seen more Seagate than anything else. In saying that I've not had issues with my Seagate stuff.

When in doubt, have more than one backup.

  • +1

I could still get the 3Tb Seagate portable HDD instore at Albury, as of last week: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/282758

Still at $115, but still not online for posting.

If you aren't going by OW at any point then the Toshiba may be more convenient where it's delivered.

  • Staff couldn't find my order in their 'hold' shelf, accidentally gave me a Canvio Connect II.

  • This was advertised in todays paper as the "new low price", so it looks like this is the standard price now.

  • Ordered 1, 2 arrived. Bank statement refers to a $99 purchase. Win.!

    • +1

DUDE! THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!!!! Is it a glitch in their system or what? Anyone else get 2?

    • I got 2 as well! Paid for 1 :)

  • Tonnes in store at Werribee VIC

  • My CPU has more Cache than this

  • The version available at Carnegie Melbourne is the Canvio Ready. There is still plenty!
