Mens & Ladies 26" (66cm) Mountain Bikes $49 Clearance Coles Camberwell (VIC)

360

Mens & Ladies 26" (66cm) Mountain Bikes spotted today at Coles in Camberwell (VIC) for just $49 on clearance, these were the same ones they had for $89 on special around a month ago. As coles has national pricing there are probably other stores around the country with leftover stock now at this price.

Coles doesn't always have national pricing on Clearance items.

Some stores will be clearing out stock at ridiculous prices, whilst others still carry the same lines at regular prices.

    Sorry !!

But let us know if you find more bikes at other stores

  • $69 at Orange, NSW as of a few days ago..

  • I saw two of these bikes at Coles West End / Brisbane for $69 on clearance last weekend as well; I would have bitten for $49

  • The scooters are also down to $10 now

Will someone please just buy these, sick of seeing them sitting there every time I walk into Coles.

too embarrassing to buy a bike from coles, or kmart for that matter.

  • If these are half as bad as KMart's 'Huffy' brand bikes, then your $49 is buying you a very negative experience of cycling

  • saw it for $49 at Burwood, NSW

  • every time i go to coles in the well, i see these, no one is buying them.
i think i remember seeing the exact same ones for around $100 about a month ago. gee. they must not be selling.

I went and got the mens bike yesterday, I have just assembled it and about to take it for a spin, If I never post here again then assume the bike fell apart whilst I was riding it and I cracked my skull..

nice. you have presented a schrodinger's cat for us to solve. you are both dead and alive till we reach t=infinity or you post again

    • OK, how long would MarTeeDee go for a ride for? - according to me it has been 1 hr 29 min since they posted their (possibly final) message here.
Are we negligent in not reporting this to the police.
And anyways, I bags the bike if it's still in good condition, because I'm too cheap for even $49

  • So took the Bike for a spin and both myself and more importantly the bike is back in one piece (so shmahoo you miss out on the free bike this time!), dropped into Coles Camberwell on my ride and noticed the big stack of bikes on the floor has been reduced to only 3 ladies bikes.

  • If anyone sees one for this price ANYWHERE on the southside of brisbane or north side of the Gold COast then please post it up - i will travel to get this.

I bought a bike off Big W online for $49 because of ozbargain and its a fantastic bike so I'm keen at this price.

  • Coles at Cannon Hill had them this afternoon when I went in, hope it helps.

    • perfect - I'm planning on heading that general direction tomorrow anyway so you beauty if I get one.

  • There were 2 ladies bikes at Coles Barkley Square (Brunswick) this afternoon, No mens though :(

  • I bough one 2 weeks ago at $69. Then last week I saw this price $49
but it's only the last one in the supermarket.

It's quite crap, but it's ok at this price.
A bit difficult to assembly & adjust breaks.

*I got unskilled about this stuff. But I did one as a disc break
    a lot easier.

  • Saw this 1st for $99. THen for $69.
    Bought it for $49….

    Bella Vista store had them.

Quality aint great. But for $49 you cant expect much. And Im not Lance Armstrong either!

    • or alberto contador…

  • General note about cheap bikes: I bought one from BigW for $200 and it was awful. Had all the gadgets (disc brakes, front/back suspension, etc). The front brake constantly rubbed on the disc and there was no way to fix this. It was like riding with a mini anchor dragging on the ground.

The bike was returned to BigW twice. On the second occasion I was told the bike was "fixed". As I was rolling it out of the store I noted that indeed, the front wheel now spun freely. It was only when I shook the bike side to side to judge how well the wheel was fixed in the front forks that I noticed the entire wheel was wobbling. The BigW "fix" was to simply loosen the front quick release, making the entire bike very dangerous to ride.

I called the store manager and requested an immediate refund in the light of everything that happened. Thankfully, they obliged. I will never buy a bike from a non specialist store again. There is no after sales service in a supermarket/department store. Calling the distributor interstate doesn't help as they're unwilling to pay for freight to ship the bike back.

    • I think your experience says more about the person buying the bike than the bike itself.

I bought a kids bike from Big W that was $149 discounted to $49. Of course the brakes kept sticking so I took it to a SPECIALISED bike store and for $11 they put on real brakes that don't stick and told me that the build quality of that bike was as good as a bike that they would sell for $250.

YOu buy a cheap bike from a discount store (or any product for that matter) for reasons known only to you. If that reason is to get something of value for not very much money then maybe rethink your reason - especially for these types of products. I buy this bike knowing that it serves a specific purpose. I ahve a SCOTT bike rrp $1900 to serve a different purpose. If I complain about spending $50 then I'm the problem - not the bike.

"The front brake constantly rubbed on the disc and there was no way to fix this"
General note on repairing cheap bikes - change parts with better parts. eg For $11 you can get alloy brakes that won;t stick and will do the job and you still have a cheap purchase.

      • The bicycle in question was a $350 bike discounted to $200 for 2 weeks before Christmas.

The problem with discount store bicycles is that it's difficult to source spare parts. Your posts suggests I should have gone to a specialist store and purchased a new front disc brake system. For a $200 bike. I suggest it would cost significantly more than $11, and the assumption is the new caliper would fit the fork. The bike did not have the old style cantilever pad system for the rim. If you're buying replacement parts for a new bike under warranty then I suggest you're going about things the wrong way.

The reason for purchasing the bike from BigW was simple. It had the features I wanted at a very good price. Coupled with the discount, I was sold. I was not expecting $2000 bike quality, but I was expecting something fit for purpose (as the relevant legislation states).

I now have a mountain bike from Standish that cost more than double the old one, but the build quality is far better.

        • On my bike I took the whole brake off and completly replaced it cable and all. The store didn't charge me for labour and also did a discounted price (as part of a general store wide sale) but i guess I just happened to be lucky that he had a brake system that fit the forks on my kids bike.

Your particular brake system would cost more than mine did but my comment is also meant to be general by simply saying that there are options to getting a non specialised company to fix a product like this and thats to go to a bike mechanic and look at replacing the offending part. It may or may not aply to your specific case - but then thats the risk we take when buying from these types of stores.

          no hate intended

          • @jug_head: I did get a little worked up in my comment :-)

$49 is very cheap and if it works, that's great. But there's a risk it may turn out to be a disposable bicycle that's not worth repairing. Any part is likely to cost a lot compared to the overall price. I also like the assurance of riding down a hill at 40km/h and knowing the brakes and bearings are up to scratch :-) For very casual use the advertised bikes may be just what buyers want.

Just keep the box to place it in for your council hard rubbish collection in about a year.

Do yourself a favour buy a decent bike from your local bike shop.

  • Cannon Hill was sold out but Mt gravatt had one left. This afternoon they still had one ladies remaining.

  • All i know is that our bike mechanic REALLY hates them… good for business I guess, but not very pleasant to work with

    • for sure. My suggestion above does have a great deal of stupidity about it… but $50 IS a stupid price too. haha
