What to Do about Cedric Illegally Parking across My Driveway?

Some moron, who appears to be named Cedric (see photos) has parked across my driveway in Melbourne. What's the best course of action here? I took photos (…) and have emailed a report to council. Is there any additional evidence I should collect or legal (so no bikies) I should take. It's making it very difficult for us to actually get in and out of the driveway. It's not possible to determine who the person is - short of shouting "Hey Cedric, get out here!" as there are loads of flats in the area.

  • Report to council. They may fine or tow.

    Good luck

    A flat tyre a day keeps Cedric away… ;)

and ends up with police involvment is a neighbour is watching / recording the street with a camera
      really stupid advice

      • +1

New to the concept of humour are we, princess???

      • +1

Doesn't have to break it, you can just let the air out

        • Exigent Circumstances…I could swear I could hear a person screaming inside that tyre…unfortunately I had to open the valve to be sure! ;)

  • +10

I thought you meant a Nissan Cedric parked there. That would be an antique! But yeah, council will fix Cedric.

  • +10

Have you tried leaving a polite note?

    • Good advice πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ€”πŸ‘πŸΎ

  • +8

Those hard to peel off "Don't illegally park" stickers on the windscreen.

    • +1

Bringing the "Stop a Douschebag" movement to the land down under, are we?

  • -2

Accidentally reverse in to Cedric, just enough to leave a mark?

    • Once again, illegal and stupid advice

    • +3

Generally if you hit an illegally parked car you are still liable.

  • +2

since it's on council land, they can always send a parking inspector and leave a fine if you give them a heads up.

    • +3

Plot twist: Tell the council you want a spotter's fee! ;)

  • +12

Councils love easy revenue via parking tickets. When you call they will send a parking inspector out to collect $155 from Cedric.

  • +1

Yes, Council is the way forward. Or even police if you really cannot get out of your own driveway. One could also argue endangerment of traffic (as due to the car you might have to go far to opposite side of street and then turn in to get into your driveway and not hit the car.
But I am sure Council will be happy to oblige.

Buy a jack from supercheap auto with 20% off, jack up the back of his car and move the back end so it's now parked across the road blocking all cars and then call the cops

  • +3

Use the 'Snap Send Solve' app with your phone.
Or call your Council, I know my Council (Port Phillip) has parking officers respond calls after hours.
    Email takes too long.

  • +3

How big is the driveway? It looks like there is plenty of room to get in and out.

    • +33

      That you Cedric?

    • +13

That's not really relevant, is it? People who park like that are just rude and it reduces visibility for the driver who has to reverse out of the driveway, especially when there's another car parked on the other side of the driveway. (I also have the same problem as the OP at times)

      • That's not really relevant, is it?

The driveway width is relevant to op. The vehicle's position makes it difficult for op to get in and out of their driveway. I don't know how wide it is, but I'm guessing it's about 3m to 3.5m wide.

People who park like that are just rude and it reduces visibility for the driver who has to reverse out of the driveway,

I totally agree with you. We're fortunately enough to drive a high seating vehicle.

        • +1

I meant that asking how wide the driveway is is irrelevant. I'm lucky enough to have a two-car width driveway but I still have difficulty reversing out when people are parked like the scenario (drive a Corolla too so no high seating)

    • +3

Looks are deceiving then. There is a gate and walls on the boundary of the property (see: green gate to left) and the entrance is not wide at all. With 'Ced there it's incredibly difficult to maneuver around. And it's not my job to work around rudeness of others in this case.

  • +2

let a trolley or something roll down your drive way

  • +1

A rude note normally helps. Make sure it includes plenty of expletives.

The other option is crack an egg on his roof/windscreen each day and leave it to dry.

  • +3

head down to Supercheap and pick up a can of yellow paint - mark your own yellow lines… great deterrent

  • Just a suggestion to stop future morons from parking as well. Is it OK to buy white spray paint from SCA and Draw white 2 lines to mark on both sides of the drive-way on the road. Is it legal? I have seen many people doing this in Sydney. May be they are fed up.

    • not legal as it can be glassed as defacing council property but i guess if it works then all power to you

  • +3

How long has Cedric parked there? Just today or a few days?
If latter, call the council and maybe a week later they'll come and tow it away.

  • -1

Cedric might be this guy Parking Ticket for Blocking Driveway

  • +1

Pretty sure the owners won't care about $155 dollar fines if theyre driving a car like this and have personalized plates
report it to the council and maybe suggest a yellow line to be painted

I am sure the legal requirement is 1m from a driveway (correct me if I am wrong)

    • +1

I'm sure they're paying every cent for the car loan repayments

  • +4

Thanks all for the comments, in this instance I have left it with an email to council. I will follow up with a call to them during business hours on Monday to find out if there is any more timely course of action I can take on weekends or outside hours.

Of course, this is some well to do person based on car, quite possibly funded by parents with low appreciation for financial concerns as the way it's done up with the mags suggests it's probably someone fairly young. However I believe it can still act as a deterrent to receive a council notice as they will get the message that it hasn't gone unnoticed and someone is bothered by it. I stopped short leaving a letter as don't feel like crossing the line of touching their car, but I certainly will in a future instance. I liked the suggestion of using a sticker for that :)

    • +2

Ring the police and report it as an illegally parked car blocking your driveway.

  • +2

How about the passive aggressive approach; note on the car stating that you have a large car that makes it difficult to reverse without the use of the full driveway and you are concerned that you may inadvertently hit his car and as it is a frequent happening you have called your insurance who have advised that as the car is illegally parked you would not be at fault and they suggest you call the police however you are loathe to do this but may have to if it continues. Cedric is an entitled moron who deserves to have his nice car damaged for being a dick.

    • Is this true?
I'd love to just smash my old bomb against the back of the cars which often park across my driveway!
Would save me money too since I sometimes have to call Ubers when I can't get out.
I figured I'd be at fault though

      • +1

Yes, you would be at fault. A car being parked illegally does not give you permission to hit it.

  • -1

    Bikies

    • Nah, this one is more for cyclists. :)

  • Has this been an ongoing thing or the moment they parked you decided to make this post?

  • Our neighbour does the same by parking in the shared driveway (we live in a cul de sac). It's a pain in the butt to drive in and out at most times because his car being parked there doesn't give me much room to do so.

  • -6

So this is a once off thing and you're having a small breakdown over 10cm poking over your driveway. You can get out. Deal with it.

On going repeats, leave note and council.

    • The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

  • +4

Just go take a shit on it. Jump on the roof, make a crater, drop your daks And scream out "YOU'RE SHIT CEDRIC" whilst a brown cable exits ya arse and slithers into a mound in the crater you made!

I'd do it for a carton of beer but I don't live in your state. I can pretty much crap on command with this Jenkem habit of mine

    • please make a gofundme, I wish to support such an event

    • You owe me a new keyboard, LOL :)

  • +14

This might be a lesson on why you don't get personalised plates.
Please PM me and I will send you his name and you can tell him your self.

    Who is Cedric?

    • LOL. Tried to PM you but it says you don't accept new conversations.

      • Cedric the real estate agent πŸ˜‰

      • I guess you don't need the PM any more. Lol come on OzBargain perhaps posting his phone number and name is a bit too far.

    • That's brilliant! Just send him a PM straight on Facebook. Maybe it'll freak him out how easily he was found.

      • +2

Tell him you're gonna shit on his car

      • Could leave a note on the car with all of his personal details. Or ring up his boss.

        • +1

The note needs to be written with a piece of turd as the writing instrument. The dookie pen

    • Wow, you're good.

  • -4

So much stupid advice in here
good to see moderation of illegal topics is happening

Damaging the car just makes you as much as a problem as the person doing the wrong thing

    • +2

Ozbargain was the pre-cursor to my recidivist criminality. It all started with using coupon codes that should have been expired to score a discount. Deep down I knew I shouldn't have been entitled to these discounts, these morsels of crime…

This bankrupted me morally and I progressed to doing number 2s on cars that were breaking the law. For the cognitive dissonance had me feeling above the law.

  • Im surprised at the lack of bikies comments TBH.

  • Don't mess with Cedric!

  • OP has gotten advice and people posting personal information/witchhunting is not permitted. Thread closed.
