Got one of these last year. One of the best things i bought for the kitchen last year. Still going strong.

I'll be rocking up Saturday morning and buying as many plastic rolls as i can carry. Found them to be expensive anywhere else i bought them from. I think the cheapest i found locally was sunbeam ones from Costco for $35.

    • +2

Can you comment on the uses you found for the vacuum sealer? Total min cost (sealer + bag rolls) = $74, so this is a decent outlay. Can you explain why you would recommend this product? Thanks :)

      • +2

if your into Sous Vide Cooking, then this is probably cheapest setup you can get.

Also vacuum sealing and freezing, makes food last longer and taste fresher

        • Thanks for this, was wondering if it was able to do poached chicken, so might look at getting one. Cheers

My main reason was that i do a lot of BBQing. Smoked meat etc. So vacuum sealing it is the best way to reheat it without it drying out in the oven/microwave. Buy 5kgs of pulled port, keeps for a couple of weeks in the fridge.

Other than that, make too much of something? vacuum seal it. Lasts a lot longer. Bulk buy cheese, vacuum seal half of it. Buy bulk meat? Freeze half of it vacuum sealed.

Definitely OzBargain worthy comment - cheers!

Fill pouch with meat and marinade, place sealer on edge bench and the pouch off the edge, suck air out and seal. Marinades in like 30 seconds.

Be careful not to suck marinade out of pouch or you will be sad.

        • What's your reheating method…boiling water?

        • +1

@powerhammer: Just place the bag in simmering water to reheat. Remove and open bag to serve. Super easy.

Even if you don't sous vide it keeps meats from getting freezer burn (the nasty change in meats that happens when you keep it for too long).
It also allows you to keep things a lot longer than without vacuum sealing.

e.g. fresh chillis might start to go off in a few days, but with vacuum sealing they last for weeks at least.

Instant marinade can also work but it's a bit trickier with an edge sealer.

      • We go bush camping a fair bit and vacuum seal all the meat and stuff like that and put it in the fridge in the car. Stops stuff leaking in the fridge and you can portion stuff up before you go so preparing while you're away is much easier.

We actually have a sunbeam machine ( been in. cupboard for years ). Are you able to confirm theses bags work with that. Thanks. .

      • +2

Yep, I'm sure it would be fine. Same size, they work the same. I'm using the sunbeam ones now, so i dont see why it wouldn't work the same in reverse.

It works with FoodSaver as they are both edge vacuum sealers (which needs special channels for the air to get out)..

    • What's the better value - the rolls, or the bags? The quick math shows there's more length in the bags in total (10m vs 12m), but I'm guessing the rolls are just "cut to size" and you can make far more use out of them?

The bags are not as wide so you may use more but it depends on what you're putting in them. There is no correct answer. Buy a combination of both.

        • I just want something to vacuum seal meat (steak/chops/chicken boobies) - I buy in bulk, cut them up, put them in sandwich ziplock bags, and chuck them into the freezer.

Bags are more convenient but may/will have more wastage. I'd buy both and see what you prefer.

Rolls work out to 2.8m2 (0.28x5) whereas bags work out to 2.64m2 (0.22x0.3x40) so you get more with the rolls. I've always used rolls and figure I would have a lot more wastage with pre-made bags.

    • I've been using both for about a year too. The machine is great. The supplied bags are excellent and very strong and thick. They're about $1.4/m.

I've tried various eBay bags at $1/m, much cheaper but significantly thinner. However they are still sufficient for general use but aldi bags are definitely quality. I use a guillotine to cut the bags. Better than precut as you will waste bags.

    • If you live in Melbourne, you can get pre-cut bags of 100s in various sizes from Chef's hat starting from $20 something I think. It's upstairs in the pro/industrial section

Edit: there are 2 different brands, German made thicker and more expensive

You sure they're the same? Just had a quick look on their website and they've only got chamber sealer bags listed. Bags for chamber sealers are cheaper but won't work in these cheaper style vacuum sealers. Bags/rolls for this sealer need channels moulded into the plastic.

        • This is the link to channel bags:
          http://www.chefshat.com.au/product-group/55463-channel-bag-1…

These should work right? For a moment I thought I bought the wrong ones for my Breville vacuum sealer. The channel has yellow label on the packaging and inner lining of the bags has some sort of perforated pattern.

          Edit: I bought this pack of 100 16 x 23 channel bags for $24.95 http://m.imgur.com/a/lGgpa
Maybe the cheaper ones (< $20) I saw were the chamber bags. My bad

  • If you are after the Anova I had success 2 weeks ago emailing them, explaining I missed the $70 off sale and still getting the discount. I purchased one at full price and was refunded the $70.

Was looking for a vacuum sealer so this look perfect, cheers OP.

    • They had some big issues getting a lot of orders out at christmas this year so they're probably feeling generous getting the goodwill back up in the community

  • The 28cm vacuum sealer rolls are fantastic. We use them with a sunbeam sealer. Around half the price of the sunbeam rolls from harvey norman.
Could probably get them cheaper from ebay but you'd pay postage and you'd want to be sure that the plastic is food safe.

    Haven't used the aldi sealer.

  • is the plastic rolls or bags for the vacuum sealer BPA free?

    • Yeap! They are BPA free and made from polyethylene which is one of the safer alternatives to BPA plastics that have no estrogenic activity.

Whether that is good enough is up to you however…

  • A must have for saving food for the freezer!
I own the Sunbeam Food saver and it's going strong after about 4 years

  • +1

If my local ALDI doesn't have these in store can I order online?

    • From where ? Does Aldi do online ?

  • +1

Can the bags or rolls be reused?

    • Wouldn't have thought so?

    • If you're careful when cutting them open and wash them properly, yes.

  • +1

    !!! Been waiting for this!!!

    Thanks OP

Can anyone with experience provide some feedback between this Aldi sealer VS the Luvele ones sold on eBay?

    • +1

I've had the Luvelo Supreme for at least 3 years and still working fine. Would not have a problem buying another one if this one ever stops working.

      • Saw the numbers sold for the Luvelo/ Luvele sealers, am quite convinced the numbers speak for itself.

Would rather spend a little bit more for better quality sealers but there are a fair few Aldi owners singing good tunes to their Aldi sealers.

        Hmmmm … choices choices choices

hmm… just bought a food saver from Target at $70 including 2 rolls…and it wasn't on sale..
Just checked the website… it says $79.. but it was only $70 in store.. i was so stoked for it too! Finally got to do a 72 hour sous vide brisket… (bought my annova on pre-order.. it's been THAT long)

    • I did the sous vide smoked beef brisket recently

      • Zoinks! You've taken a wrong turn.
Let's split up, gang. If you're looking for an image, it's probably been deleted or may not have existed at all.

        • @diddy50:

          @diddy50:

          Looks tasty.

Please share. Time/temp in water and time/temp in smoker.

          Which smoker?

How would you compare it to a brisket that's just been smoked?

Smoke ring looks an odd colour. Is that just the pic or does it colour differently to meat that's only been cooked in a smoker?

        • @OzBragain:

It's been slightly touched up by the photo app, that might explain the weird colouring. Haha

36 hrs in sous vide. At 68.3°C

Salt and pepper only. Next time I will try it with celery seeds and garlic powder.

3hrs at 300f (or higher, because I didn't control my heat) on my offset smoker. Using my own fig wood and some red gum.

First time doing my own brisket.

My first time eating brisket was a few weeks ago at the BBQ place in crown melb. Fantastic, so I tried it myself.

          I followed the anova recipe.

This one at Kmart for $59 should be similar in case anyone misses out. They also have 2 x 6m rolls for $15.

    • 26cm wide, which are 2cm less than these ones.

  • +1

    Few useful tips for these:

    1) I'm not sure about this particular aldi one but check and see if it has a button to stop suction and also a seal button. Important because if you have liquids in your bag you want to be able to stop suction precisely and then have it seal. A fully "one-touch" one would be a bad idea as it would suck liquids through the machine.

    2) If doing long cooks, as per the above hopefully there is a seal button because you will want to seal the bag twice. The seals have a chance of giving way when you remove the bags out of the water bath after a long cook

  • The water immersion method is free!

    From Serious Eats website…

"To do it, start by placing your food inside a zipper-lock bag, then seal the bag, leaving just the last inch or so of the seal open. Next, lower the bag into a pot or tub of water. As the bag gets lowered, water pressure will push air out of the bag through the small opening you've left. Just before the bag is completely submerged, seal off that opening and pull the whole bag out of the tub."

I've not has any issues with this method.

    • Doesn't work for long term freezing though.

    • not very reliable for long cooks…

  • Which brand zip lock bags do you use?
    Glad? Aldi ones?

    • +1

@Diddy50 - I do use Glad but I prefer the double zip lock ones from Aldi sell, Goliath I think..
@OzB - Good point, I only use them for Sous Vide.

    Picked one up this morning.
Vacuum sealed some chilli on the moist/gentle setting.

    • Awesome! What is he recipe?

  • None left at Aldi Joondalup WA.

    • There was none at Aldi mirrabooka either. Did WA even have any stock?!

      • My closest Aldi did but I was there around 10am, some things sell out quickly and you need to be there when stores open. So many people were looking for the food trolleys and they were sold out.

        • Just went into mine at Nerang. Heaps! Somewhere in the range of 30-50.

      • I grabbed a sealer and 3 roll refills at 9:30 this morning from Belmont.

      • There were none in Belmont W.A. when I went . I'm thinking WA had very low stocks .

    • Grabbed one at Harrisdale at 8:30, was about 20 there?

  • +1

Picked up one today from Aldi in Ringwood (Vic). There seemed to be plenty of stock.

One note, the model in the Ambiano link although is the same, seemed to have the bottle sealer included. This one didn't and has a different product code. Everything else appears to be the same.

Anyone get one with the bottle sealer attachment included?
