  • It was $119 with free delivery when I last checked..

  • I have bought one before Christmas and used it to backup my 4TB WD my passport ultra and l had no issues with the HDD except some SMART monitoring programs misread the internal temperature. I would recommend it at this price point.

  • Any other thoughts on using these as a backup?

The only drives I have ever had die on me are portables, so a bit iffy on the idea.

Personally I'd never go near Seagate again. I've had two randomly stop functioning and develop issues before the year was even up. Didn't even care about the warranty. Lost all my files.

      • Yeah I'm already anti seagate as it is. Just doesn't seem these portables last as well.

        • WD portable drives have the usb port soldered on the drive. if you break/jam the port somehow - the drive is borked.

          Every drive has its risks.
Even if seagate was to have higher failure rates it would be like comparing 2% failure to 3% failure. yes its a 50% jump but the risk is still low.
That is if seagate is worse - which arguably its not.
And before someone quotes a ridiculous backblaze article - here ill quote it myself

          https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-…

they tested nearly 35k seagate 4tb drives vs 7k drives for the next nearest number of drives (hitachi). If you knew anything about statisics you'd say this kind of sampling test makes the whole thing invalid anyways.
(and haha if you want to rag on WD- they had the worst perfoming drive 12.57% failure rate - but the whole test is useless if you ask me)

@voter1: Seagate seems to have a bigger share of disk failure though. I had 4 seagates drive all died on me. I never have any issue with WD/Samsung drives

    • Looks so awesome, and is wd!

    • The black one says "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com exclusively for Prime members", all other colors are the same price but ship to everybody. Or get a trial Prime membership, shipping is cheaper with it.

  • PMR or SMR technology on the disk itself?
