Marvellous Roald Dahl Library $12 (Includes Weekend Paper Delivery for 4 Weeks)

1341

This might be a little long winded but I am a chatty girl. Got the Sunday Mail today because the padawan wanted the Twits book that came free with it. Promo running where you buy the paper for the next 13 days and pay a bit extra to get a book. 14 books in total.
In the paper there is a subscription offer. For minimum $12, you get 4 weekends of paper delivery plus the book collection.
You just need to remember to cancel the subscription before the next billing thing.
You may cancel your Subscription by calling Customer Support on 1300 MY NEWS (1300 69 63 97).You need to do this 7 days before the next one is due.
Limited to 300 offers in Qld, 200 in NSW ( www.thecouriermail.com.au/books) not sure about other states.
If you dont want to risk not being one of the first however many required you can call 1800 039 809 (for QLDers, dont know the number for other states) tomorrow and only subscribe if you are within that number.
Not a newbie, so guess you are within your rights to go harsh on me, but I will cry so please dont. (I havent posted a deal in a looooong time because people on the internet can be so mean and I am only trying to help)

FYI easier to pay and cancel with PayPal

    • Is it easy to cancel and get a refund on my initial payment if I find I am not in the first 300? Or if I find out they don't deliver here??

      • I mean using PayPal

        • +3

The cancel they mean is PayPal lets you cancel recurring payments.

To refund your initial payment you need a legitimate reason (e.g. product not received)

    • +1

I tried to use the couriermail by OP and it would say my Delivery Address is not accepted. Weird… i then tried dailytelegraph, same landing page, different logo with my details and it worked :)

    • Thanks for the links LoopyLou, I have just ordered my books/subscription. Still available in Adelaide:) A great deal and easy to cancel.

  • Great post and description.

The selection of books is a tad strange, any Roald Dahl collection should have at least Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

    • +4

Or The Witches, The BFG, Matilda …

It's got the twits though. Incredibly funny book, a great memory from my childhood.

      • +2

        Lol @ your username

  • Great deal and even in today's HS there is a token for a free Roald Dahl Book box and FREE Twits novel. Do yourself a favour! +1 OP.

  • You also get immediate digital access which would normally hold little value for me, but it means that you get fun things like a 12 month digital taste magazine subscription too (which I am already using)

  • +1

For those in the West The Sunday Times & The West Australian newspapers are running a Roald Dahl 8 book collection, first book free plus the box and then $2.60 each for the other books + newspaper cost or $5.30 total per book or if you are a home delivery subscriber you can order the set for $18.20 + postage. https://roalddahllibrary.com.au/sundaytimes/

The OP's deal is definitely better than what we get here :-(

  • awesome deal.
    Subscribed. Thanks Op.

  • +2

Good deal. Please don't cry when somebody misreads their obligations and comes back to have a go at you!

  • Also note that although there is 14 books, there is only 12 titles.
James and the Giant Peach and Danny, the Champion of the World are each split into two books.

  • 'Lesser Dahl' but good deal nonetheless

"Twits" + storage box free with coupon in today's paper.

  • This is a small subset of this collection: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96869

Note this includes some compilations by others from his books, a joke book and the Great Mouse Plot not in the Costco collection.

    • Great deal, I did notice it before I posted my deal because I searched to ensure I wasn't posting a duplicate deal. I wish it was still available. My child was only 3 when it was posted so wasn't quite ready for them then.

  • +2

I gave you a vote so please don't cry. Unless its your party, in which case go ahead and cry if you want to.

Regardless of the tomfoolery, it's a pretty good deal, especially if you buy the paper anyway.

    • +4

But hubby says big girls don't cry (big as in grown up, not as in large. Oh wait, unless hubby just called me fat…)

  • This deal's subscription also comes with PlusRewards (select newspaper from menu) which gives access to free book download, free entry to somr sports events, competitions, etc.

Just redeemed code for free book download (choose 1 from monthly selection)
Redeem your eBook, by entering your unique code on the Kobo website.

  • Great deal but unfortunately "Delivery is not available for your selected delivery address"
    :(
Live in melbourne but might work for others? Who knows.

    • What is your Paper? This one is QLD, you need to go to VIC paper page

    • Deliver to work an option?

  • so I signed up tonight, does that mean I'll get the paper delivered tomorrow and get a book with it?
Do they deliver the carry case thing?

Never done this before but thanks very much OP, very much appreciated.

Weekend paper subsciption delivered on Monday? Wait until next weekend (most States)

When subscription was paid & accepted you should have read…
Please allow up to five business days (allow ten business days for Western Australia) for delivery to commence (in bold for others benefit)

Digital (papers etc) & PlusRewards start immediately as outlined in confirmation screen.

    • +1

It's a digital subscription - you only get the physical paper on the weekends. I read somewhere that the book "set" should be delivered in 15-20 days.

Roald Dahl Was a Sexist Racist POS.
But gotta love his creative mind for these stories.
Oh, before you neg, just look it up fist please.

    • Shouldn't downvote this guy. It's perfectly fine to enjoy Road Dahl as an author and acknowledge that he said/did some bad things as well.

  • +2

Too bad daily telegraph and couriermail have poor journalistic value. Books are awesome though!

  • Thanks loulou1😯
Subscribed for the literary value of the books, not the papers.

My Father already had subscription to Sunday Mail. So will suspend that paper for 4 weeks, then reinstate. (Done through your Account, select Suspend. Can suspend with 2 business days notice apparently - earliest date is shown. Other benefits may still be available during unpaid suspension - I haven't tested that.)

Have taken up these offers before, cancelling the discounted subscription before end of period & reinstating existing subscription. That confused News - they then sent 2 copies of newspapers, so I suspended paid subscription until they stopped sending the free papers.

  • +4

the books are probably more intellectually incisive, then the paper.

  • +2

Thanks OP. I signed up for the www.heraldsun.com.au/books one and look forward to receiving the books (hopefully I was in the first 300). I regret my decision to then check out the Herald Sun website, I didn't realise how bad it had gotten, but if I can get the books for $14 it will be worth the pain and suffering I have endured.

  • Does anyone know if this comes with 'George's Marvelous Experiments'?

    • not in vic

    • It doesn't.

      The set consists of:

      • The Twits
      • Esio Trot
      • The Magic Finger

  • $40 at ntnews.com.au !

  • Thanks @LouLou1. Just subscribed to the Daily Telegraph, and it says my next payment will be $12, taken on the 28 Feb. Does that mean I need to cancel my subscription on or before 21 Feb?

Just wondering whether the books will arrive by then, and if they will still send them out if the subscription is cancelled?

    • I am wondering the same thing. When I rang I was told two to three weeks for delivery. I am really hoping they come in two weeks so I can cancel straight away.

  • "Introductory offer to be billed as per the following: Digital Membership + WEEKEND Delivery $3/wk, min. cost $12 billed 4 weekly. At the end of the initial 12 weeks, Memberships will automatically renew to be billed 4 weekly at $24"
I guess one book (or 2 in case of James & Danny) will be delivered each week so 14 books will be for 12 weeks? That means 12x $3/wk = $36? Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • Books get sent as one package within 15 - 20 business days according to terms and conditions. On the phone I was told tow to three weeks.

      • Thanks OP, just subscribed; very good VFM; I wonder whether the books will still be sent if you cancel at the end of 4 weeks?

        • I did it via phone and was told book sets are still available.

  • also seen sets for sale on ebay already, no need to muck around with subscriptions.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m5…

    • $40-55 against $12 & wait. I'll wait.
Or in my case, $0 by suspending existing subscription & adding new subscription for 4 weeks, then cancel.

  • Did anyone get their weekend delivery. I signed up on the 5th and email says to allow 5 working days for delivery to start. Didn't get any delivery last weekend 11th and 12th.

    • signed up 5th, got sat and sun delivery

    • Also signed up 5th, got sat and sun delivery. Regular Sunday paper was suspended for 4 weeks - so basically a free deal for me.

    Options time😯

To get this deal for just $12, will need to cancel subscription around now - 1 week before billing date. Check your subscription.

However you can suspend subscription now, and still likely receive digital service (with +Rewards where available). Resume & cancel subscription at future date - 1 week before new billing date. (I took this option)

If you don't do either, you will be billed at $12 for each 4 weeks for a total of 12 weeks. Subscription then continues at normal rate of $24 each 4 weeks after that. (I will continue until end of 12weeks, as have suspended existing Sunday subscription)

To be safe, if paid by PayPal - go to your PayPal account & turn off automatic billing to News Ltd if cancelling or suspending.

    Subscription details
The Courier-Mail Roald Dahl BAU Offer Weekend
Digital Membership + WEEKEND Delivery $3/wk, min. cost $12 billed 4 weekly. At the end of the initial 12 weeks, Memberships will automatically renew to be billed 4 weekly at $24.

🔰 No Dahl on my door step yet 🔰

    • Thank you for the PayPal reminder!

      • It's an easy way to ensure you are not billed. Will then show as no payment available in the News account.

Always a good idea to prune those old PayPal payment permissions. I found a few from years ago.

  • +1

    🎉They're here🎉
🔰 14 Dahl books just arrived on my door step 🔰

Arrived early (Brisbane) - took 13 business days. In large white Postpak by Parcel Post.
Ordered 1 hour after deal posted.

    • hoping mine are at home when i get there. Unfortunately had to cancel my subscription due to having issues with removing the cling wrap from my paper and it taking far too much of my time up.

      • Should have outsourced that task😀

      • Cling wrap is so old school - ours comes flat in a sealed plastic bag. It depends on the newsagency doing the deliveries.

        • didnt get my books today :( Hoping tomorrow. Did you cancel your subscription?

        • @loulou1:
As I just added a subscription to temporarily replace my Father's existing $2.50/wk Sunday subscription (currently suspended), I will continued it
          for 12 weeks.

Possibly will suspend for a while to get other perks at no cost, as I suggested above. Will see if can access while in Japan.

Not a bad deal - 50c/wk more - to get additional Saturday paper, digital, & +Rewards. And I'm not paying the bill (I don't read the papers).

I only wanted the included books & free book downloads etc.
Thanks - an even greater deal (for me)😀

        • @Infidel:
Next payment went through today (I didn't cancel)

  • Has anyone else received their books yet.

    • Got mine :) c they did say 15 - 20 business days

      • Ours came last week; 15 days; no sign of the newspapers yet though

  • I'm still waiting for my books.

    • Same here. Nothing showed up.

  • No books. I have paid $24 now and have only received the paper twice. What a joke

  • Got my books today! Does anyone notice that after subscribing to this, there are increasing telemarketer calls??!!

  • Got my books today (Sydney). They had my address , but someone else's name (mail merge issue?). Glad they weren't registered post.
I cancelled my PayPal recurring payment 2 weeks ago.

  • Mine arrived yesterday in Sydney.
