  • Is it better than Dyson big ball ?

    • +5

Dyson vs Miele. Bagless vs Bags.

Dyson if you like the bagless system. Miele if you like bags.

For I myself, I prefer miele and bagged design

      Dyson always overpriced

      • Dyson always overpriced

Agreed. Dyson is like Apple. People willing to pay 3x as much for the brand name.

i've got a Miele, one time i sucked up a face towel and it didn't even stutter. I used to have a Dyson, it sucked up a tissue and it would get jammed

  • Ahhh moving from a 1bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom unit with 2 dogs…..got a DC59 animal atm, do i need this!?!? aahhhh

    • I live in a 2 bedroom with 2 cats, bought the C3 Cat and Dog and it works 200% better than the DC59 (Running at boost) . The turbo attachment on the C3 is amazing, the carpet looks like it has been professionally cleaned.

The dyson is now just used for quick wins spills/dirt etc.

The only downside is purchasing the vacuum bags ($30 for 4 I think - maybe cheaper on ebay)
I was lucky enough to pay $500 at Myer and it came with 4 boxes of bags for free.

      • The C3 works fine on hardfloors yeah?

        • Yes, It will

UK model has a SRD 10 hardfloor brush, you dont really need to worry.

        • My apartment is 80% carpet so I rarely use it for the hardfloors, maybe once or twice (similar result to the Dyson - more suction though)

You may be fine with the DC59 if you mainly have tiled/hardfloor surfaces..

      • $75 on ebay gets you 16 bags.

    • Ahhh moving from a 1bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom unit with 2 dogs…..got a DC59 animal atm, do i need this!?!? aahhhh

      DC59 is a hand stick.

You're going to get 20 minutes battery life with it. It's perfect for a 1 room apartment. That won't be enough to do a 3 bedroom unit I don't think.

      Get the Miele.

Miele is pretty good except the 5xbags cost $25 a pop. A bit expensive long run.

They do last surprisingly well. Pick up larger stuff before vacuuming helps.
For the end result and ease of emptying / cleaning well worth it.
      Only use the genuine bags.

  • These vacuum cleaners are a hidden gem and a true bargain when you consider they will last 20 yrs + and not fail like the 13 month wonders sold by other makers. When you consider the life expectancy and the performance they deliver they are the cheapest vacuum around. In some cases you may never need to buy another one again.. :-)

I think these are the 1200W and not the 2000W version sold in Australia. Something about high power vacs banned from sale in the EU. But apparently these are better.

  • If anyone is thinking about importing a vac from the UK, might you also look at the Numatic Henry vac. Having had many vacs from all the big brands, we now only use this and will only use this. Seems low tech but they are darn good IMHO. They seemed to be used in hotels as well (they have the smiling face on the front of the drum)

  • What about the plugs on these? I'm assuming that if they come from the UK then they'll have a localised plug on them. That would mean either an adapter or slicing off the original and wiring on an AU plug. And is it an international warranty?

    • Don't slice anything. For goodness sake. Get a travel adapter. They cost a buck on ebay.

      • So does a proper plug that you can have an authorised electrician fit onto the cord properly. My concern is safety. I have bought appliances from overseas before and used adapters, and never been 100% satisfied they're as safe. Since you can purchase a localised model for only $100 more with a proper plug and local warranty that would be my personal preference. Most people on this site are more concerned about the $$ savings instead. YMMV

        • So does a proper plug that you can have an authorised electrician fit onto the cord properly.

Well as long as you're not doing it yourself. Personally, if I'm going to pay an electrician to change the cord, I may as well spend the extra and buy the appliance locally.

Most people on this site are more concerned about the $$ savings instead.

Well you came to a site about saving money, so yeah.

        • @lostn:

Well you came to a site about saving money, so yeah.

Oh, I agree. I'm not having a dig at anyone who wants to save money. You even hit the nail squarely on the head when you said that instead of paying a sparky to fit a plug it's better to buy locally. The beauty of this site is it gives people a choice, so there's no harm in exploring them all.

      • Fitting a new plug is dead simple.

  • The local version is 2000w. So there are some differences here.

Bought this model last week at BingLee 20% off online which costed me A$438 shipped. A thread in Whirlpool forum states that Miele claims 2000w models are more advanced and have more power. couple this with local warranty I think buying local is more worth it than importing form UK.

    Edit:

You still save $100 bucks, and you can buy them at any time.

1200W I believe is more than enough and better energy efficiency, it also helps you to reduce your energy bills

There are 213/232 five star reviews on amazon UK

So with Miele confidence, I am not worried about the local warranty

Dont forget buy boxes of bags with vacuum as well and still cheaper than OZ local/SALE price .

The only drawback is UK Plugin.

      • I agree with you.
But no bags(good value) available to ship to Australia…

  • Just had mine delivered.

Holy crap what a good vacuum. Pretty damn amazed. The thing is quiet as soft talking but has the most ridiculous suction power. Super super impressed./

  • Hi John Kelvin. Can you use the filters that come free with the bags in this model? When it comes time to change the charcoal/odour filter, do you have to replace it or can you just go without?
