Telstra Recontract and ETF Waiver - $50/M for 7GB

90

EDIT: Based on people below, it seems like this is very much a targeted offer. Strange, given it appeared on the home page for me. Sorry if I wasted anyone's time. Still worth checking your emails if you ask me.

A bit of a niche deal, but a great deal if you are eligible.

Telstra currently have a promotion in which you can recontract and get:
- ETF waiver;
- $200 credit on your bill; and
- 2GB bonus data per month.

The kicker is that BYO plans are eligible for the promotion. In my case, I got my $200 ETF waived and $200 credit for the $50/m M plan (7GB a month with the above bonus). That means the next 12 months will effectively cost me $200 for 7GB of data a month. You should see a screenshot here: http://imgur.com/a/lH8tu

It's pretty rare that Telstra has a plan that makes it on Ozbargain, but I think this gets over the line.

The one thing I'm unsure about is what you need to be eligible. It may be <3 months remaining on your contract. I couldn't find any fine print to tell me, go the website to check.

Where are you seeing the $200 credit on the website?

Was going to ask the same question. Can't seem to find any details about it.

I am on the $50 for 7GB BYO plan currently but out of contract.
I've been waiting for a deal to recontract, so the $200 credit makes it $33 a month for 12 months which is good value (This is the same deal I originally signed up for).

    • I'm not seeing any mention of ETF waiver either?

    • +1

I posted a screenshot below, I see it in the "Bonus Inclusions". http://imgur.com/a/lH8tu

      • Yes it looks like it is targeted.
I have tried visiting a few other providers then back to Telstra but no luck.
Going to try the online chat with your screenshot and see if they will do the deal.

  • Is this on their $1000 of calls at $1 per minute deal ……Most other carriers are unlimited calls now and the battle is how much data you get.

Optus $40 for 12gb unlimited calls is what I'd want Telstra to get closer to matching

  • The $200 is under their Bonus Inclusions for the plan. As is the ETF waiver. At least it is for me. I'll try and upload a screenshot

    • Mine just says: Bonus Data, Apple Music and Netflix.

      Weird.

      • Hmmmm… I got to the page via the Telstra homepage where they're advertising it like you need to upgrade to a Pixel to get it. Try going via there?

EDIT: I just opened the Telstra homepage via an incognito page. It seems to not be there. This may be targeted via cookies in some way.

        • Yeah that might be it.

I tried logging in as well with no success. Oh well!

Mine says that too (Bonus Data, Apple Music - 6 months, and Netflix - 6 months)

  • I'm still on the EOFY 15 $45 deal including the SGS5 (upgraded to 5gb with half term renewal). Not sure what deals will come up this FY.

    • I think that's the contract that I signed up for. Never got offered the upgrade for recontract(assuming cost stays at $45pm). Did they offer this or did you have to seek it? I'm still on 2.1GB and struggling.

      Thanks.

It was a similar one (5gb) to this where you committed to 12 months and they waive the rest of the contract. It subsequently turned out they charge termination and the credit mentioned only offsets against the termination charge. I managed to argue that it wasn't clear and that I want to either revert or get what I had bargained for. They then gave me the upgrade.

It has been pretty painful experience dealing with them at the start and recontracting but I have a really great plan in the end. (Phone plus cashreward plus upgrade for 2nd half)

So this is what the Telstra rep told me over live chat:

"I hope you will not take this against me FadeToBlack but you can only get that if you received an email from us for it."

I asked if I could get it anyway as I am out of contract but they said no.

  • I'm up for renewal in August.
Can't see anywhere that says ETF waived :(

  • Just a thought, for anyone not seeing the $200 bonus and ETF waiver (inc. me) have you opted out from receiving e-mail offers from Telstra? This could be why.

    • Nope, I don't see it and I'm opted in to email offers.

  • Is ETF "early termination fee"? I'm on the 10Gb for $60 a month plan, but I don't really use that much data. I'm considering switching to the Aldi $35 XL plan with 6Gb data.

I logged into Telstra, and it says my contract ends in 4 months, and my "early termination charge" is $16 (waaaay less than I was expecting).

    • where do you check ETC, they seem to have moved it in account settings?

      • Yes they have. Can't find it either

      • After logging in, under "Plans & usage", I click on my phone number. Under "Your plan", underneath the PUK code, I click on "View contract details". That's where I can see my ETC and device buy out costs.

        • ^^^ Yep, what eug said. That's where I found mine. I have to pay $16.33 to end my contract, apparently, with 4 months remaining :)

For this actual bargain posted though, I don't see anything waived or $200 credit for any new plans :(

@webbiegareth: Not for me!!. maybe i am on staff plan that's why :(

  • Telechoice has $38 pm for 9gb at the moment. 12 month contract. They're also on the Telstra network.

    • They only use part of Telstra's network.

  • Currently my plan is the Telstra $40 for 7 gig plan 12 month contract.

    • Same, but this deal works out better with the $200 credit - $33/mth for 7gb.
