  • Maybe in AUD$ or indicate that this is in US$

    • AUD. :)

      • ..nevermind

      • Just gotta update the thread title and content to reflect the true AUD price. Still showing as $984AUD

        • I've mentioned the prices aren't live until later this afternoon.

  • Operating system: Runs Windows 10 ( Just Original windows 10 home system,Only Chinese language )

    • -1

You realize you can change the language setting right?

      • +1

You actually can't. This is a Single Language version of Windows 10, which means there are no options to change display language. Your CD Key is also only valid for activation when using the original language. There are several esoteric workarounds, which require a (large) amount of technical skill, but in most cases you will need to reinstall Windows 10 and buy a new license.

Please note this also comes with two straight prongs, American style with no earth. You can replace the power pack with something that supports USB-PD. Charging is very fast, approximately 1.5 hours for 9 hours of video etc.

    • I think it's easy to change the language from Chinese to English in Windows 10, isn't it?

      • its a 10 minute process. however, the most troublesome thing is that most people on OzB don't know a single word of Chinese to get by. Simplified Chinese makes it worse for me..

    • Has anyone actaully done this? I've been reading, and youtubeing and they say you can change the language, but a lot or some of the menus and system settings are still in chinese (or whatever original language)

      • +1

The reviews I've seen say that it comes with Windows 10 Chinese Version and if you want to change to English, you have to install your own version.

I'm keen to find out if anyone has first hand experience here.

        • Windows 10 Chinese Version

          That's a deal breaker.

      • +1

I am fairly certain this is accurate. The windows licence is actually specific to Chinese language only. As in, if you attempted a fresh install and choose any language other than simplified Chinese it will not work.

This is echoed in the product pages of other sellers such as gearbest, which states: "Xiaomi Air 13 has Windows 10 Home Chinese Version. If you purchase Xiaomi Air 13 pre-installed with Windows 10 Home Chinese version, you should pay attention on when you change the language, some things will still be shown in Chinese. "

        • Maybe the best thing to do is to buy a license of OEM WIN10 for $20.

This review says he was able to convert it to English by using the Windows Creation Media Tool.
I don't know how this works but I'll start researching.

      • Besides language it's also regionalisation. Might have to buy a $25 windows pro key.

I own one. It's brilliant. Regretted bought a lenovo carbon x1 before that. It looks like and feels like a Mac Air but in Windows.

    • -1

You can always get a Mac and bootcamp default it to Windows

      • But performance…

        • And a screen resolution from 2008…

      • +3

And spend $900 more for an OS, sure

I personally don't have a problem with them, but their price gouging is crazy.

An extra power adapter for $129?

        • Holy cow! I didnt realise they went up so much recently. Still thinking under $1400 for the base model.

      • what's the point of paying $500 more and getting lower spec?

        • Arguable whether the i5 in the Air is "lower spec" than the M3 in this example.

        • +1

@bchliu: The $1500 mac air has 128GB, i5 1.6GHZ(2.7 in turbo mode), integrated GPU,

The $1000 mi book has 256 GB, i5 2.7ghz, dedicated GPU

        • @Wizs: You should be comparing like for like. The "Air" should be compared to the 12.5" "Air" model with the M3 and the 13" with the i5 is more comparable to the Macbook Pro. You can tell from the styling that they were "Borrowed" or "Stolen" from those particular models. Yes, I agree the price differences are there.

        • +1

          @bchliu:

why? im saying the 1000 dollar mi book is better speced than the 1500 mac air(500 less expensive). the 12.5 inch version is further 300 cheaper

What is the deal with the power adaptor? Do you just have to use a travel plug converter or can you swap the power leads out like on HP/Toshiba's? Thanks

Edit - Think I found my answer from @Cronium above. Do we know what prong adapter is needed?

  • +3

13" model showing as AU $1,230.24

Edit - never mind, just saw prices not live until this afternoon

    • Obviously the ones listed are for gen 1…

      • Of course, just putting it out there that there's a refresh coming up soon… Would have thought the OP might have mentioned that being a possible reason for the sale / price… but it wasn't.

        • +2

journalism gone out the window, that article is something i expect to read from smh. void of detail
          i.e.
title: xiaomi notebook 2 details revealed
body: According to the report, production of the second-generation Mi Notebook Air is going to start later this year in April… Technical specifications of the Mi Notebook Air 2 haven’t been revealed at this point in time but we can reasonably expect…

          …wot?! :/

        • @justin_tsoi: definitely badly written… and no evidence of updating the article either - could have sworn it originally said "According to the report, production of the second-generation Mi Notebook Air is currently underway"… but now says April…

  • Nah, support would be a worry.

Don't forget CashRewards for 7% cashback.

  • Charging via USB-C?

    • +1

Yes. USB-C PD as mentioned above

  • The 13.3 inch link seems to be for a different spec model than mentioned in the title and specification link: "Original Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air Intel Core i5-6200U CPU 8GB DDR4 RAM Intel GPU 13.3inch display Laptop Windows 10 SATA SSD".

So no nvme SSD or nvidia GPU?

Edit: Just realised that the 13.3" link in the description points to the Intel gpu version where as the other links point to the nvidia gpu version.

    • Just went through the website on a PC instead looking at the mobile version and noticed that the title and description for the 13.3" model on the site is wrong. You will have to scroll down further and you will notice that the 13.3" model seems to come with DDR4, nvme SSD and nvidia GPU as mentioned by the original poster.

  • I'm interested to buy as the ASUS I bought was faulty on delivery. Any one has warranty issues yet?

  • what time does the sale start?

    • It's live now

  • What version Windows, PRo or Home?

Does't seem all that cheap to be honest. $984 for 6200u. Lenovo have had better deals than that.

  • I'm keen to get one to play with but the only thing holding me back is how it tapers at the front (like a macbook air but not as extreme). I hate that look and prefer the macbook pro style where it's the same thickness on all sides.

  • Has anyone else bothered with this? I'm trying but it's been difficult. Visa have them as a high risk so I had to call my bank to get it to go though. Now AliExpress are saying I'm the risk and they want me to provide driver's license, credit card and bank statement! If it went through Visa's secure portal which it looked liked it did they shouldn't even be able to see this information!

I've sent them as little info as I could with the note of if this isn't enough cancel my order. A laptop is not worth having my identity stolen!

    • Read the email again. It says that my order has been cancelled and after they can verify my identify I can reorder. This means no deal, no laptop. Never going bother with AliExpress again!
