  • I am looking xiaomi phones under $200,

    • +1

      note 3 prime with b28

      • I been waiting ages for one, lucky my phone can last until a special comes out

        • why wait, they're cheap enough as they are. and great phones.

        • +1

@sachz: Is note 3 prime good phone with specs, i am looking at geegbuying they have for $202.

        • @sachz: because a back up phone wouldn't be used until needed. If note 3 Kate falls below $200 then we should take the chance

        • @sajju: specs are decent for a phone with B28

If you can stretch an extra $20 or so you can get the amazing Redmi 4 Prime. Battery life for days, premium looking and feeling build quality, dual sim or single + SD card, 1080p screen, and it's just generally awesome.

  • No band 28

    • Correct. Don't expect super 4G speeds if you're on Telstra.

      • Or Optus Optus also has band 28

        • Carrier Aggregation with Optus is on B40 (2x TDD)

Still a crappy camera like the mi5?

    • +4

5s has the same camera as in google pixel.

      • +1

        Good to know.
Not sure why I got negged about the obvious.
My LG G4 destroys the camera on Mi5. Low light pictures are particularly pathetic on the Mi5. I might roll the dice on the Mi5s when I am in China shortly.

        • Because what you said hurts their feelings. Some of people try to convince themselves that they are getting all features from established brands flagships at a bargain price with Xiaomi. Whilst I love my RN3, I know this phone has own limits.

        • How's the camera on the Mi 5/5s in daylight? I don't take many night shots so that's not a big issue for me.

It seems to compare better in these studio-lit shots, but a real-world opinion would be helpful. Thanks.

It has the same camera chip sensor not the same camera as the Google Pixel. Lens and aperture design will have a lot to do with why the Pixel is better and also the software when generating JPEG. The JPEG differences go away if you choose to shoot RAW and post process but that defeats the point and shoot beauty of having a good camera phone.

  • is it in English ?

I want to purchase it for someone who is not tech savy, who's this phone for her ? Need it to be in English / oher language though.

    Anyone can advise ?

    • +1

Dont buy Xiaomi for someone who isnt mucn in technology.

      • I just read what I wrote … I shouldn't write comments at 1AM in the morning.

        Thx for the reply.

Would you think the MIUI is harder to understand than the general Android version ? I found it easier …

      • lol not sure if serious

      • Why? If it has the global ROM installed then it's pretty damn easy to use. Looks like iOS by default too.

    • My old man currently uses MIUI 8 on his Redmi Note 3. I did say MIUI is easy enough to use for someone who isn't good at technology at all. In general the UI/UX designs aren't bad on MIUI.

  • Hey man. Did u get any cash rewards from topcashback ?

    • Mine was tracked in under 4 hours. They send you an email. Now have to wait 5 weeks for it to become payable.

Transactions for this retailer usually appear in your account at lunchtime the following day, though in some cases this may take a few weeks.

      • Hey. Have ur phone been shipped yet?

  • Do they come with the global rom or does it need to be flashed?

  • +3

    Hey folks,
I bought this phone few months ago. From my experience, I can tell you this is really a great phone. The camera is really good. Phone comes in English with Google play installed. Not sure if it is global rom but I never seen any chinese popping up on my phone at all.

I was using Samsung Galaxy S7 edge before and I can vouch for this phone. Never looked back to S7 edge & not planning to change my phone any time soon.

make sure you also get yourself a screen protector, there's no gorilla glass on the 5s (unlike the previous gen )

      • Yeah, forgot to mention. I am using a glass protector & plastic cover.

      • yup. the screen of my redmi note 3 shattered after the phone barely fell from sofa and hit wooden flooring. Pretty bad quality. My S4 has been through real torture and still going strong.

    • Can you use Android pay with it?

  • +1

Hey man, thanks for this deal, was really good and I used the cashback too!

  • Is this a worthwhile upgrade from the Mi Max?

  • I purchased Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro/Prime version last year. The build quality of the plastic hinges was real bad. When I opened the phone to replace the screen - the body was literally falling apart. Don't know how other xiaomi phones are but if its this bad - I believe look for something else. The specs on the paper are outstanding but in real life aint that good. Camera is the worst on redmi note 3.

I have the same phone, Redmi Note 3 Prime. 1 year on, and the phone holds on superbly. 2 small children in the house, the phone was dropped, thrown, stepped on, etc. Nil scratches, nil issues.

Just a case on it and a thick 0.3mm screen protector. Does wonders.

      • looks like I am the unlucky one then. Cheers

        • I have lucky stone buy it mate :)

I have a Mi5S from the singles day sale last year. Mine is reflashed to Official Global ROM.

    Mini review:

Screen: bright and good colors; FHD good for size, don't need 2K unless doing VR.
CPU: SD821 can't ask for more
Battery life: I get full day out of it from 6am to about 9pm.

    Downsides/Cons:

The fingerprint sensor suck so hard. The one on a RedMi Note 3 so so good, comparable to apple and samsung, but the new tech under-glass sensor is hit and miss; average 3-4 touches before unlocks. I also tried to register my thumb 4 times (as different fingers) to increase accuracy and only marginally better. location also mean one hand unlock and use not possible.

Headphone output also suck for anything more than earbuds. forget things like QC25 or full size headphones.

  • Thanks OP. My G4 died and now it seems lost in the post while on its way for repairs. This came at a good time.
Picked up a cover and screen protector as well.

  • Global Version Rom? Cant find any info

  • site says 478.98.. with cashback down to AU436.08
    what am I missing here?

Regardless of what currency you choose, you'll always be charged in USD. Other currencies are an indication only and the exchange rates don't appear to be updated too often.

Set the currency to USD. Price will be US$334.95, US$304.95 after applying the coupon. Should work out to ~AU$400 with cards that don't charge currency conversion fees. If you card has conversion fees then expect to pay 2-3% or so extra. Same goes for PayPal.

Going through Cash Rewards will get you extra 8% cashback, going through TopCashback you can get extra 9% cashback + US$5 new member bonus if you join through a referral link.

      • thanks for your detailed response!

      • Hi Kamoi, it won't let me check out after entering the coupon code… Did I do something wrong or there is a glitch in their checkout system?

  • +3

have one. do NOT buy one.
fingerprint sucks. buggy. go for the cheaper xiaomis. they do em good. just not expensive ones
go for the oneplus 3 instead

    • Totally agree. Ended up using pin code out of frustration!

    • where do you find oneplus 3 for A$400?

  • when i tried to check out, it says the coupon code is invalid/not activated/expired…

    • I had the same issue.

    • Updated OP with some info on this.

      • Thanks for your reply. It's valid when I applied it, but when I wanted to checkout it then showed me the error code…tried with a new account and it still does the same :(
