Found the popular Xiaomi Mi 5S flagship on sale for a good price. The free Express Expedited shipping is a huge bonus too.

    I am interested in buying Xiaomi phone. But I am a bit confused with the variety of Xiaomi phones. Can someone tell me the difference between 5, 5 pro, 5s, 5s plus, and other 5 that I may be missing?

      the Redmi range is their midrange, cheaper and very popular ….probably their best bangs per buck.

      Redmi notes 4 is a good phone, and a great intro to china droids, supposedly the hottest selling phone on release week in India in history. the Redmi note 2 had the same demand in china.

      There is no money in long term support, so consider that you won't get android updates after 12 months of release as they have new model and users who own phones don't pay for support.

      Also some android versions are processor specific so legacy processors can't support some new version of android ….. so goes end of support.

      Different for apple, they control the processor, features and OS so 4 years after a phone is released you still get IOS updates.

      The phones rubbish, I don't know why there's so much hype here, I've had 2 note 3's both have been nothing but headaches.

      The worst phone to root and official ROM is very buggie.

      I can honestly say its the worst phone I've ever had, tho seems some people are lucky, I've been unlucky twice

      Buy at your own risk just don't expect any returns or refunds if you cop problems like I have.

        To be fair, if this is your criterion, you are in a very small minority of consumers.
        One of my kids has a rooted Redmi that has far surpassed his expectations, after he saw me dicking around installing an international ROM on a Meizu. He wants it to work, be easily rooted and be fast, cheap and good.

          Dude I've had 2 of them and both have been an absolute pos.

          There have been many others that have said the same thing, every time I post how crap they are, there is always a couple of replies where others on this site have had similar problems.

          Just making sure people hear the bad also.

          I have been very happy with their other products, just not their phones. Its also a big gamble spending $200+ on a phone they might end up being junk and you got no option but to throw it away or deal with the issues.

        Agreed, had a Xiaomi a year ago (can't remember which one it was) and it was buggy as all hell. Nothing but a major PIA after about 2-3 months of use.

        They do get rave reviews, so maybe I got a dud. I won't risk it again (that Mi Note 2 though….)

          Was it a Redmi? They are Xiaomi's budget line and have inferior quality in places like the camera.

          I had 2 xiaomi's, 1 note 3 mediatek chip junk, thought I'd try again as I thought I got a dud, Bought the se/Kate version band 28 which I'm using as a second phone now. Its another pos, never again second time round is enough for me. I'll go the zuk z2 now

        I'll share my experience.

        Have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 - actually have two. First one I gave to my mum (bought for ~$220 around Sep 2015). During that process I had to decide what phone to get myself… so guess what? Got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 again (~$180 in April 2016).

        Bought it again because my first experience with it was very positive and because I wasn't bored of it yet.

        My experience with the phones has been fine and I rooted both of them. Both were equally fine to root (which is a little fiddly, but to me, rooting phones - especially lesser known ones - is not necessary a super straightforward process). I'm not a camera person and maybe it's for that reason I can't relate to the comments about how the camera is mediocre. Looks absolutely fine to me. I appreciate having an option of Dual SIM without sacrificing memory card.

        My complaints, if any, would be as follows:

        • No NFC - this has meant I wasn't able to take advantage of some AMEX deals where you could get a cash rebate for Android Pay payment
        • No 4G/3G Dual SIM (it's 4G/2G)
        • No Xposed Module (a root thing - and I believe it's because the chipset isn't supported?)
        • No fingerprint reader (I am being anal by adding this one because it doesn't bother me much, but would be a nice to have)
        • The lock button has stopped working consistently (but not enough for me to get super frustrated with it/to want to replace it) - and I believe this seems to potentially be a quality defect, because others who I have also recommended the phone (including my mum's model) have also encountered this issue
        • My battery life has been atrocious ever since I got my Xiaomi Mi Band 2 - but I do not know if it caused by it (or the Bluetooth connection always being active). I believe I can find a way to fix it (either with BetterBatteryStats and/or Wakelock Detector), but I have never bothered and have gotten by by charging my phone more regularly and making sure I have a power bank on me.
        • Apps sometimes seem auto close - most noticeably Google Photos - this means the photos don't get backed up even though Wi-Fi is on
        • I used to experience the problem above with WhatsApp too - i.e. messages would get "stuck" until I opened WhatsApp, then I would suddenly get a huge flood of messages
        • I also used to experience this problem when listening to music with PowerAmp but it doesn't seem to occur on Spotify

        Other than the points above, I think I got an absolute steal for $180. I know I've shared a lot of negative points, but I wanted to share these but also state that I feel that for $180 it was awesome value because I find even when you spend $700+ on phones you will also experience issues like above. As an example, I experienced atrocious battery life on my Galaxy S4. If I'm going to pay for a phone which has some issues, I'd much rather pay $200 than $700.

        I'm also looking for what phone to get to replace this. Am considering Xiaomi Mi5, maybe another Redmi Note (there's a new one being announced very soon), a Motorola G4 Plus or another random Chinadroid (probably one posted here).

        TLDR: I've been using Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 since October 2015 purchased for ~$200. Awesome value for money in terms of performance, camera (although I'm not a camera-person), compatibility with apps. My complaints are that the battery life has been atrocious since I got a Xiaomi Band 2 and there seems to be some sort of issue with apps not staying open sometimes (when you actually want it to). However, I have personally had issues with expensive phones and my logic is it's better to pay $200 and have a phone with some issues than pay $700 for a phone with different, but similarly impactful issues.

      depends if you wipe your hands between eating chips or nachoes and handling phone. I put all my phones in case so if they drop the case takes the impact and phone survives and also no cracked screens.

      You don't want a cracked screen or other drop damage on a chinadroid …. back to china for repairs and you will be cursing them on ozbaragin.

        Thanks for the feedback. I haven't seen one of the ceramic ones in real life yet, hence the question. It sounds like they are no more slippery than a glass iphone etc.
        I have a china droid in a back cover case for protection, but the idea of a slim phone with no case was appealing, and I thought the ceramic version might be the answer. I must admit I envy people who use their phones with no protection, but I can't bear to scratch/chip/damage devices that cost hundreds of dollars.
        Maybe I need to stop upgrading for a couple of years until a $50 supermarket prepaid is a upgrade then live with it naked ;-)

          I have a Xiaomi with ceramic. In general it is more robust to scratches. Some guys claim that it is more vulnerable to drop though.
