The e is for excellent
Economical maybe
Haha probably
@davidl222222: sounds about right!
remember they are all designed in a way that you'll want a new one a year from now
so it's ewaste off the bat
but at least it's excellent for the economical price you pay
@davidl222222: It’s 16 E then:
1. Expensive
2. Economical
3. Envious (how your friends feel)
4. Emoji-packed
5. Eyeroll-worthy (when you see the price)
6. Evolved (like a Pokémon)
7. Ego-boosting
8. Earbud-missing
9. Endless-scrolling
10. Elite-ish
11. Explosive (in popularity… hopefully not literally)
12. Exaggerated
13. Enticing
14. E-waste Frankenstein
15. Eslow display
16. Everything-proof (except your wallet)
e for e waste
Better get a better phone like Pro.
60hz screen, USB 2 port speed, less features than base model 16
https://www.apple.com/my/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone-16…iFone 17 might be released in 2 months time
60hz on a thousand dollar phone is unacceptable
Becareful what you say. You will have the fanbois saying "you can't even tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz and it's a gimmick".
The 16e is your typical iPhone Special Edition or SE model.
It takes the guts of the current model and packs them into an older case to come up with a "Budget" model
In this case I think its the iPhone 10 XR but wih an upgraded camera.
So still only a single cameraThe SE models are usually the cheapest way to get a new iPhone with the latest tech. So great value!
Great if you are not fussed about having 2 or 3 cameras or other things you will never use.I find it crazy that the iPhone 16/16+ still use USB 2.0
It's to boost the sales of i16 Pro Max, lol
@payton: According to Apple, the only reason you'd want USB 3.2 on an iPhone is to record 4K ProRes directly to a SSD.
Yes
Its an iPhone.
They are all goodBut depends if you like iPhone or Samsung
if you have to ask yourself that question then you already think its bad.
It's fine, but you get a lot more iPhone for $250 more with the 16. MagSafe alone is worth it imo, slapping your phone on a MagSafe mount in your car is nice.
Lol not when considering a brand new non-grey iPhone 16 can be obtained for this price
care to share details cheers
JB HiFi port in my bro
1% targetted JB deal and had no one wrote back if they got one.
But yes glade to see Apple drop their iPhone price.
With the iPhone 17 around the corner, I'm sure the prices of these will drop even further…
Better option: iPhone 16 ~$866 from JB, $767 if the first month is refunded.
Brighter screen, extra ultrawide camera, has magsafe and cheaper.
Looks similar price to their 1% targetted deal
The negative is you’ll have a phone repayment on your credit history.
You never know when you’ll need a loan and not worth tainting you record to save a few bucks imo.
This. RIP to those who are doing it frequently thinking there aren't any repercussions 😆
Where did you get the idea a phone repayment will significantly impact your credit in any scenario?
Wouldn't it be active for the period that your contract is active though? i.e. presumably by the time you need a real loan, all of these previous phone repayments would now be "inactive" (i.e. no longer an active loan/debt)
Although, I guess you could still argue it's questionable as to why someone has 20 phone repayments that lasted a day over the last 3 years..
Wouldn't it be active for the period that your contract is active though?
It won’t be active anymore, but it will stick around on the history for years.
Where did you get the idea a phone repayment will significantly impact your credit in any scenario?
Who knows how significantly. Credit assessment companies don’t publish their equations.
But if I was a regular Joe and not an ozbargainer and saw one month of phone repayments my first thought would be 1) This person couldn’t afford a phone outright 2) They couldn’t afford the repayments after a month and needed to cancel the plan.
You might be able to explain yourself. But you’re starting off on the back foot.
Just my opinion. It’s a great deal if you’re not worried.
Optus are doing a deal, sign up for a sim plan + 16E and get airpods 4 valued at $220 for free
Officeworks don’t price match Telstra !!
try calling multiple stores, there is always joe who loves to price match
Rather a used iphone 15
4000 mAh is tempting for me this and 15 has only 6gb ram, unlike this which has 8gb ram
Rookie numbers
With the JB trick roughly the same price for non E model
Almost the same as the iPhone 16.
Less camera functions (still has a decent camera), same processor and screen (slightly lower peak brightness that you'll never notice), still has Face ID and USB-C, and same water resistance. Doesn't have Magsafe charging, but still has Qi wireless charging. Has Apple AI.Doesn't come in all the various colours you can get with the standard iPhone 16, but is otherwise perfectly fine. Saves stuffing around with the JB HiFi cancelled contract hack.
Those saying they'd rather a used iPhone over this aren't aware of just how similar it is to the 16.

iPhone 16e Uses a "binned" version of the A18 chip with a 4-core GPU, which results in approximately 30% lower graphical performance compared to the iPhone 16 in GPU benchmarks.
30% is significant
I had a13 pro and am very happy with the 16e. Battery life is better and it’s lighter than the 13 pro.
How is the camera in comparison? No zoom etc
This was from a review I read online:
The good news here is that it packs in a lot. Once you dig into settings to enable things, here’s some of the features it packs in:
Single-camera Portrait mode with Depth Control
48MP sensor with 24MP default capture and optional 48 MP JPG/HEIC capture
2× ‘optical’ zoom by cropping the 48MP sensor’s center area
Night mode (12MP, like all other iPhones)
Very good video in Dolby Vision HDR, up to 4K/60fps
Slo-mo video up to HD/240fps
Spatial Audio capture in video
That’s nothing to scoff at. Compared to the last year’s flagship iPhones there’s little you miss out on.
17 Air is the way to go
I suggest you wait for 18 Cloud Light.
17 Air is real while your cloud is fake as flat earth
Holding out for iphone 19 helium which floats when you let go
I'd never even heard of the 16e…seems like a next gen variant of the SE series?
Also, why's the currency in Malaysian Ringgit when you click through?!
Are you using a vpn
Nope, on work internet (Brisbane), and it's the AU store. Just a strange quirk I noticed, and I've accessed the Apple store before on the same device & got prices in AUD.
Do you have cloud +
Is this locked in any way to Telstra or just phone and we can use any carrier?
No more locking of mobiles these days
Apple’s never locked
Not anymore
Was never locked
@Smilence03: Regardless, if your iPhone is running iOS 7 or later, updating to the latest iOS version will also unlock it. (You may have read this message in the past.)
suitable for upgrading mother's ihphone xr
Is that a question?
Its a wish
Yes it is, current software support for years vs XR software support ends this year
XR is a A12 CPU vs A18 CPU in the newer 16e so significantly faster cpu as well
i own the exact same phone barely hanging on
Great phone at this price.
Are you kidding
Iphone air is the way to go
This one is a flop show
iphone air? My dad got this phone for $950. Simple phone with familiar software for him. Long battery life, extremely fast, good camera and updates for the next 5-7 years.
Iphone Air coming in September
I thought there was a worldwide or imminent shortage of certain resources to assemble any electronics, yet alone 16es? Have they hoarded surplus parts to just smash together an inferior product for extended profitisation?
Does Phone 16 justify a price premium of $250 [ $1,150 - $900 ] over iPhone 16e ?
In other words, would it be wiser to save $250 and get the iPhone 16e instead of the iPhone 16?
yes, better cam and looks better with dynamic island notch
iPhone 16 was 1049$ 2 weeks ago in sales amatsim have it cheaply atm too
Did anyone manage to price match?
Gave it a go with JB online chat. They won't price match (as expected tbh) as this deal needs an active service with Telstra to qualify so goes against their price match policy.
Did you try anywhere?
JB does a hard credit check and this means the more enquiries you have with JB the worse it is for credit rating. Recommend y’all don’t keep suggesting JB plan to have phones on the cheap. Pay $200 more and get a deal elsewhere. Unless you have actual intent to use the JB plan.
This may be true, but if so, it really highlights how stupid credit checks are.
From no financial perspective is having $200+ less in your bank account better than having a couple of closed lines of credit from the past with no penalties and no future liabilities.
How bad is this iPhone?
