Gal is a coating that can be scratched. If scratched down to the base metal it will rust.
The galvanisation process should protect scratched steel from rusting by donating protection for many years. Look up galvanisation in Wikipedia for the basic science behind it. Or else metal on cars and houses (and fences) would be in big trouble
I had an old one the same as this but bigger. It was rusted on the edges so I sanded it off and gave it a good coating of Lanox. 2 years later it's still good!

Good price but will rust from scratch and dent.
