The link uses the Shareware on Sale downloader, you can DL Winoptimser directly here:

    http://download.cnet.com/Ashampoo-WinOptimizer-2017/3000-185…

And just use the key given on the Shareware on Sale page if preferred.

    • They have a downloader? What is this, 1998 all over again?

    • Yea it uses a downloader, is there a problem with that though? If so can you elaborate what the problem with a downloader is?

It didn't ask me to install any spyware.

      • Because Trudeau.exe (hint: it's the current year), why should you have to use a 3rd party delivery mechanism when a link has always done the same job?

        • Oh so it's a matter of principal. I agree, I'd rather use your method and would have done if I could start things over. Still, we're splitting hairs here.

Crapware. Don't waste your time/effort/bandwidth. Way more likely to do damage than achieve anything worthwhile.

    • Can you link me a review which confirms your story?

  • +1

Tried my luck with it in the last giveaway. Screwed my system that badly up that i had to reinstall windows.

What modules did you use that bricked your computer? Mine is not any worse for wear after doing the main scan/fix for windows errors. Registry cleaners are not recommended, I notice that they include one as a module (not the primary function of the software though).

Do you think you went and did a big registry clean and that's when the trouble started? lol

      • Lot's of negative votes for asking what might have actually caused the issue he had. It doesn't like perhaps he inadvertently deleted his windows folder and that was the issue. System is running flawlessly after using this software.

I'd steer well clear of this rubbish. I'd neg but people would probably complain. This is hardly a bargain.

'Hardly a bargain' it's free buddy, get a grip. If PC Mag isn't a reputable source then don't trust them.

      • Hardly a bargain' it's free buddy, get a grip

        You sound like a rep.

Just because something is free, does not mean it's any good or a bargain…

        • I just ponder the usefulness of someone coming onto a thread for free software which reviews well and saying it's not a bargain. Just don't download it. /Thread.

        • @Budju:

          That's just one opinion

        • @jv:

I've seen vouchers for 50c off a $10 Hungry Jacks meal get 200+ votes on a monthly basis. As far as that goes, this is quite good. That being said I don't usually bother with these types of programs.

        • @Budju:

as far as that goes, this is quite good.

          That's subjective.

That's why we have votes and comments.

How many votes did the HJ offer get compared to yours?

        • @jv:

It feels like that was my point, and it went straight over your head.

        • @Budju:

          Wooooooosh….

        • @jv:

So basically $10 for a Hungry Jacks meal is a complete ripoff. Yet, people seem to be amazed by a voucher which can be googled at the drop of a hat.

This software, while not being the best, is free. I appreciate it if people don't want to download it or up vote it. However, to simply come on and neg without having even used the software before, because… Who knows? Don't be surprised if I call you out. Wooooooosh…

  • Didn't Ashampoo used to make good software like 20 years ago? I seem to remember that from my younger years, from above comments sounds like it's now garbageola, unfortunately

  • I used a similar software utlity offered a few days ago and that reeked havoc with my system

    • Do you mind saying the name of the software you used, as it wasn't this one?

      • Wise Care 365 pro

        • Guessing you used the registry cleaner?

  • +2

For all the smack talk, I've used the program and it hasn't wreaked any of the havoc these parrots and squawking about. All working well, just don't use theirs or anyone else's registry cleaner (a small part of this software, you have to manually click on it) cause they are actually crap in general.

    • Software for n00bs.

    • yeah, auto registery cleaners are a big no no.

Every few years you might need to reinstall windows depending how many programs you install and later delete …..

My Win 10 was so dirty it couldn't install Anniversary update (was upgraded from Win 7 to 8 to win10 LOL) …. was time for a clean install

That PCMag "review" is some of the weakest stuff I've ever seen. It gives "Pros", "Cons" and "Bottom Line", and fails to mention just what the hell it even does.

If it's anything like CCleaner, it's likely completely unnecessary since the advantageous functions are built into Windows as standard.

    • Not the most reliable review, however no hell on earth scenes have been witnessed by me yet 24 hours after installing the software. Will reiterate, don't use the registry cleaner on any software you ever download.

1998 called and wants its sh**house software back…

  • I'm mainly concerned it claims to "optimise" windows. Sure it can remove some unused or unnecessary files, but so can CCleaner, for free and without making dubious claims.
Further, the disk cleanup built in Windows 10 is supposed to be the best and safest.
