Whhhhaaaaaat I'd rather buy a 4k Samsung 55" for that price and still have change for a budget sound bar

    Invest in visuals!!!!!

I would much rather invest in high quality audio, it will last and stay relevant far longer than an expensive TV. That being said…

(not specifically talking about this soundbar)

      • What would you suggest for entry level / budget audio?

get a cheaper soudbar. I'd get one that goes with the tv (so you can use the one remote).

haing said that I've got a much cheaper samsung soundbar I think it's the HW651. what I really like about it is the builtin sound apps (spotif, pandora, tidal, tunein, etc) and has wifi, ethernet, BT connections. it actually gets used more for music then TV. but I got it refurbed from ebay for ~$250.

        • @supabrudda: cheap soundboard only do so much. If your TV sound is really bad and you want a cheap increase then get a cheap soundbar. If you watch movies etc then you need to spend more.

I suggest you listen to a quality audio set up, this Soundbar isn't one of those though, however the common buying a TV around $4k or so and buying a $200 Soundbar is hugely out of whack.

  • 'RRP' $1999 most places selling for around $1650

  • Might be worth actually mentioning that it's a soundbar/theatre setup in the title.

  • holey rusted metal batman… that's some serious dosh for a soundbar! (errr i mean "home theatre")

  • … Did you just create an account to post this "deal"?

I got this Soundbar from Costco in December for $1499, not sure it's worth the money to be honest. Found that the surround sound only works when watching 4K blu ray disks, can't really hear the rear speakers when watching TV or Foxtel.

    • That's because standard TV and Foxtel only transmit 2.1 channels… 5.1 setups are only really useful for movie watching (potentially TV series on bluray?).

You should be able to change the settings to make sound transmit out of all 5 channel though (even just in stereo)

      • Incorrect.

In surround mode the rear speakers are working but you cant hear them because its a design flaw. In the equalizer under 10hz increase the volume. You'll notice the speakers cut out all together.

        Flawed, faulty design.

  • Yes I made an account just for this. Although I'm a one year lurker.

I would say the soundbar is worth $1200. The ease of use, less wires and small form factor made it worth it.

I have the Samsung 65'ks9000 and fits well with it.

I agree the back speakers aren't great by any means.

  • I know it's not the same thing… But for those using your Computer as a media centre, a pair of studio monitor speakers and a DAC can be had for less than this, and will sound more impressive for 2.1 sound.

I read about people using studio monitors for surround too, but I don't do it so can't help there..

  • You can buy decent htib for this price.

  • I bought these for $1600 from HN just before christmas.

READ REVIEWS! These are terrible! I returned mine for the YSP-2700.

Equalizer doesn't work, rear speakers you can barely hear, very bassy and terrible.

My ysp-2700 can replicate the rear speakers and sound louder than the 950s ever did.

Put your ear up to the 950s and you'll also hear a hissing sound. Your speakers are now ruined as you'll forever hear this now.

    Dts is also stereo only.
