Damn that's cheap. I'm sure the expiry date can be stretched a few months as well.

    • +2

Pepsi more so than Pepsi Max.

    • +2

can confirm from experience, it can be stretched by 15 months without loosing any fizz….

    • +3

Can use soda stream to fizz them if flat lol.

      • +3

        Get out

      • that works!?

  • Expiring end of Feb

    28th?

    Use-by or best before?

    • +2

      best before

  • +1

That's cheap. Hope they haven't been heat stressed and flat in flavour as a result.

Will still be good when the meercats stop selling health insurance and take over

  • Alternatively can use for Cleaning your tyres. Gives a good shine and can be used post expiry.

    • +5

An APC/degreaser is far more effective.

What would you think leaving sticky sugary residue on tyres makes them clean?

      • +4

I'm a bit skeptical for any product advertised during Rixty Minutes

      • Sure. It was joke.

Sticky sugary residue is what gives that shine :-D

        • Might need to work on your execution

    • better than drinking this

Expiry date stamping is actually an "invention" from the 1970s. It's an indication of quality, not safety. Before the advent of this concept, people only throw food away when it tastes bad (e.g. mouldy bread, sour milk etc.), and not when a mere date on a package tells them to.

Thoudsands of foods are wasted every year because people deem the food unconsumable going by the stamps.

    • True, and the quality degradation varies for products. Some with little difference.
For soft drink it just goes less carbonated.
They'll be fine, but I wouldn't stock up.

      • Actually with Pepsi max, go past the use by date and it basically becomes borderline undrinkable. Carbonation is still there, but the taste is lost - it is just soda water with only a hint of any taste.

        • +1

Artificial sweeteners don't last as long as sugar.

        • +1

          Sounds like Voss but cheaper

My housemates do this and it drives me mad. No matter how much I try to educate them about the difference between use by and best before, they'll still instantly chuck stuff the moment it hits the date on the label. They've just been brought up that way and find it hard to change that mindset. What's even crazier, is in the next breath, they'll be ranting and raving about climate change and global warming, when food production is one of the biggest contributors.

      • My housemates does that too. I'm not mad though. I'm responsible for finishing all their unwanted milk.

    • +3

Except the use by date on some products is for the packaging not the food product; I.e. PET bottles.

    • I've cooked meat past the used by date and it's bad, smells bad and looks bad.

One would assume that is safety, food poisoning is bad :P

      • +1

That would've been past the expiry date. That's different to use by/best before.

      • +3

wash it under the tap as most of the bacteria is on the surface, and marinate it, gets rid of the smell and it comes up OK, no ill effects. If it still smalls bad after the wash, marinate and cook, then I would recommend dumping it.

Hey they charge extra for aged beef at the butchers, and they cut away the dried smelly bits.

    • +1

In addition, many people pay attention to the expiry date alone, and pay no heed to text such as "consume within 3 days of opening".

    • +2

Thoudsands of foods are wasted every year because people deem the food unconsumable going by the stamps.

The milk use-by dates are pretty accurate though, to the day.

    SUGAR SALE !!!

    Pay with your health.

    • Health is for suckers.

    • +3

I'm not interested in this deal whatsoever, but i came in here to look at entertaining anti sugar vs moderation debate that typically ensues

  • I don't think that a product with a best before date would actually turn bad for a long time after its best before date. I wish I was in south yarra at the moment I'd totally hit this up.. :(

    • Depends on the product.

      • +1

If it was Pepsi Max there might be a problem. The diet soft drink does have an issue when kept so long.

  • Great deal. No Max I assume? :(

  • +3

    I'll take the crab juice

  • I wouldn't take the chance on these. I've bought ones within a couple of months of the expiry from IGA and they always taste terrible.

    • Less sweet?

  • +1

A lot of health nuts posting in here

But they will happily down yoghurt and fruit juice and deem it healthy

    • +1

What's the problem with natural greek yoghurt and homemade fruit juice? I suppose every food has its 'it's toxic!!' opinions, even bread or milk :(

      • Fruit juice has a lot of sugar. Not necessarily bad but a good counter argument if someone deems soft drink bad because of its sugar.

        • Fruit juice has less bulk and is denser in energy than the fruit so one ends up consuming more kJ that way.

  • Wow wow WOWWWWWW

    • Lol I'm picturing a cactus running into big w right now shouting "outta the way, that's MY Pepsi!"

      • Lol I'm picturing an eagle typing the above comment infront of the computer

  • Post a deal about Nutella and people flood it with hateful comments on how bad it is for health and THIS?! I don't quite get it

    • Yeah this is clearly not good for you, so no comment needed. Nutella and well there is more area of gray. Just dont mention the moon landing conspiracy and you will be fine.

  • How much for shipping to Sydney?

    • +2

      I'll charge you $20.

  • +1

    can't buy online :(

  • you know when you can buy 24 cans of soft drink cheaper than you can buy a bottle of water, the world's obesity levels are doomed….

    Yet a bargain! :D

    • I'm sure these will turn at up some take-away shop as part of a combo or sold on their own on a hot dat for $2.50 per can.

Who checks use by date of can of soft drink from a take-away place.
