  • I assume the $100 off when you spend over $500 code (got mine yesterday) works on these?

    • Yep

      • When I had a look yesterday, the $100 survey discount was automatically applied in my account when I added an item and went to checkout (no coupon code required) there was a -$100 line item. Today, I add the same product and that $100 doesn't seem to be appearing anymore.

Did anyone actually get a coupon code for this promotion or was it automatic?
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290481

Anyone willing to share their $100 code if they're not using it? :)

        • I got an unique code via email yesterday

        • @Fluffyduck77:

damn - just checked and I didn't get anything in my email.

    • How did you get $100 off, mine is only $25 off on a $50 spend after completing their survey

      • +2

It was a choice at the commencement of the survey.
From memory you had to click on a different image for the $100 one.

        • Thanks i guess i have to read more next time

      • +1

I got a $100 code, if you wish to swap them over..

        • Yes i'm ok with that.should i send it to you through your personal email or is there another way?

        • @Eoulous: just in PM message here will do, I can't initiate the conversation as it's not enable in your account.

  • +2

    Thanks for the hard work

JB Hi Fi have the KD43X8000DS for $1047. Not much of a deal?

    • +3

Yep and you don't want to deal with sony's delivery company (DHL) unless you have no other choices

      • +2

I had this exact TV delivered by DHL from Sony and this may be out of the ordinary but it was great service. They called me the day before delivery to make sure I'd be home, then half an hr before delivery to let me know they were on their way.

        • +3

I rescheduled delivery on their website in the morning and they delivered my item at 4pm the same day. Can't really expect more for delivery in Australia.

    • +3

Why is this not a deal? $999 including delivery plus 2.4% cashrewards, that's like $91 cheaper on price alone.

    • +4

You mean the one at JB Hi-Fi New Zealand for $1047 NZD. Nice try.

      http://m.jbhifi.co.nz/tv-lcd-led-plasma/sony/43-inch-4k-hdr-…

      • +4

From what I can see, JB Hi-Fi Australia doesn't even carry the KD43X8000DS.

  • +1

They actually increased these speakers from $174 to $199
    http://store.sony.com.au/SRSHG1P.html#start=1

  • How is deliivery included? is there a coupon code? Shows delivery charges :(

  • naah. but would've crossed the 1st 3 free-delivery mark.

  • Has anyone got a 49" X8000D 4K HDR TV thinking about getting it? Also what is wrong with Sony's delivery methods do they damage the goods?

    • Delivery was fine when I got an amp from sale this time last year

    • I have the 43" X8000D. It's good once it's up and running but the Android menu system can be a bit slow sometimes. Play with one in a store first if you can. Though, because it's an android OS you can install Kodi which is pretty awesome.
I keep hearing complaints about their delivery but for what it's worth I had great service.

      • Would it be better to get this one or the next one down X7000D? I assume they have the same android OS?

        • But the x8000d has all the necessities for proper HDR etc. Would get the 8000 over this. I have the 43 incher

        • X8000 is a superior tv

      • Has everything to do with the mediatek processor they used in this. Android TV is slow because of it, and even Nexus player works faster.

Just a note to everyone: this does not play 60fps YouTube videos without lag, due to th crappy processor.

      • Does it have HDR10 and Dolby Vision or just one of those? How many HDMI ports and if its got a 3.5mm headphone jack or perhaps bluetooth built in?

      • I got the same tv a couple of month ago when it was $799. Delivery was great. No issues.
Try updating the firmware. It's suppose to improve performance. I have and mine is pretty responsive.

    • Yes. I got it when they had their last sale a few weeks back for $999. It has grown on me, especially since I discovered that my Getflix setting had US for Sony products and when I flicked it to Australia, the inbuilt stan and other tv catchup apps appeared.

It is Ok for SD content, quite good for Foxtel HD/Hulu/Netflix and amazing for most 1080 files streamed from my apple tv through Infuse. I actually don't have any UHD content yet, waiting on the Sony UHD Blu-ray player to come out.

The delivery company sucks. They don't tell you when it is coming so you can't be home, then need to reschedule it and wanted 2 days minimum. I was home the next day but couldn't be for a couple of weeks so drove out to their dock and picked it up. The box / tv were in perfect condition.

  • XPERIAXAULTB - Any ideas if this is dual sim?

    • Got this last time it was $299 - its single

      • Is it any good?

        • For the price - I can say it is value for money.
Great day time photos. Poor for moving shots and low light.
So far its been pretty snappy to use with a solid feel and build.
Battery is shocking when used a lot. For light use holds surprisingly well.
Overall- its a compromise - but happy

        • @Perth31: Thanks. Most of the phones hold charge for 1 day only or 8 hours. If Sony does that as well, I don't mind. Will see if can get hold of one today.

        • I bought it in the last sale. It's a terrible phone, no longer using it. The front face flash always gives red eye, and most photos are blurry(see other reviews). The camera on the back is really bad for a Sony. The phone is absolutely full of bloatware, more than I have ever seen on a phone. So much so I ran out of space pretty quickly for a 16gig phone. Oh and it's slow, real slow. Just booting the phone takes about 2 minutes, no lie! The only thing I liked about it is that it's big. Going forward I will definitely get the larger phones from now on, just not from Sony. ;)

        • @gviddy: Hmm. Will pass. They are on preorder as well. Not worth the wait I suppose.

  • For those people who got the offer and did the survey, don't forget to check your emails.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290481
I got my voucher coupon this morning for offer 1. This sale is perfect timing.

  • The more expensive Sony's soundbars get, the worse the reviews for them get! :(

  • +2

Nothing interesting for me but plus for the work

  • -4

    FDRX3000R Action Cam $899 22% $200 $699

Come on Sony, regular price at JB is $649 with a normal price of $579 according to price hipster. Heck it's even $499 @ DCW.

    • Edit: ahh remote

      My bad.

  • Damn, how are the Xperia X series? I bought the first release Xperia Z and I thought it was a real good phone.

    • I've got the Xperia X, probably the worst phone I've ever had to be honest. Camera is great, but it over heats when filming for more than a couple minutes, constantly complains of low memory, even if you constantly shut down all apps. Touch screen glitches, becomes unresponsive, battery life is atrocious, the smart charging is so annoying I have to turn vibrate off each night(it will turn charge on and off randomly during the charge cycle which causes the phone to do its little you plugged me in vibrate constantly through the night). I'm never getting a sony phone again after this.

      • I was thinking of pulling the trigger on the Xperia x, but your review is putting me off! Is the low memory warning definitely referring to the RAM and not storage?

        • +1

Yeah RAM, storage is fine as you can put sd cards in (the OS takes up an annoying 11gb on internal though) To give you some background on my experience with phones too, Worked for Telstra for 7 years and have used pretty much every phone you can think of.

    • As ONEM says, stay far away. There's a reason you hear nothing about the SONY phones anymore.

    • I used the XA Ultra for a few weeks, its an okay phone. I love the huge screen but that's all about it. I couldn't even flash it Sony Flashtool doesn't work with the dualsim version.

Sony killed the Z line (huge mistake) and now the X series sports the MediaTek processor( another huge mistake) where as many China brands are equiped with the better Qualcomm Snapdragons. Clearly heavy cost cutting is going on.

I went back to my trusty old Z2 and sold the XA.

  • What's the Xperia XA like? I'm in the market for a phone for my son in this price range. I normally get Xiaomi phones but if this is any good may go for it instead

    • +1

Phone is average. Previous comments on Ozbargain deals include poor battery issues.

Interestingly all the Sony Xperia XP, XA Ultra, X have same 2700 mAh battery except XA which has 2300 mAh battery. Looks like Sony bought 2700 mAh batteries in bulk.

    • +1

Bought the XA when it was on sale at Target recently. There are things I like about it, and things I don't like. I'm not a heavy user, so I haven't noticed the often-complained about battery issues. There's a fair bit of bloatware on it. I find the performance more than adequate (I don't use it for gaming or videos, just internet browsing for the most part). Camera performance is also reasonable.

    • +1

      It's a mid-range phone. At $199, that's a good price, but dont expect $1000 phone performance.

      • I got the XA for $174 (with survey promo) for my 13 year old daughter.
I good option for a kid.
I have the Ultra myself, battery draining, but good for work use so far.

  • Any comments on the Xperia XA ultra? Looks like a good deal.

    • +1

Review on GSMArena. Battery life is really poor. Good cameras but Mediatek processor.

      • And it's preorder. When will it be delivered?

        • +2

I waited one month for my delivery of XA Ultra from last sale and then cancelled it.

    • +2

Had one sold it within a month.

      As others have said:
      BAD
      * Battery life - does get you through a day if you are somewhat careful I guess, two days if you don't use it.
      * Overheats
      * 16gb memory - yes you can put a micro sd card but Sony has a bit of bloatware and you will be constantly deleting stuff to make room.
      GOOD
      * Cameras - GF loved the selfie camera.
      * Should get latest Android updates.

For $300 its ok if you really need good cameras, I don't think there would be anything better camera wise (especially if comparing both) at that price point.

      • Yeah I think I'm looking at getting it for the GF. Last a day is fine. 16gb memory is fine, put a memory card in for photos etc. The camera is the big thing I guess. For $300 if it has a camera that you would find in a $600+ phone I think I'll grab it.

        • Yeah the cameras are fantastic, especially the front one; 16MP, has OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and flash, some $600+ phones don't have all that.

One other major issue that I had and that others may not is the size of the phone. Without a case it is a slippery phone too, a case did help on both counts though.

If they put both those cameras in the non ultra I think I would have kept it as a 'going out' phone.

      • -1

Absolutely drove me crazy with the bloatware. I was in the same situation as you constantly needing to delete stuff just to update apps. And to be honest I didnt even have many apps on it. I dont use mine anymore. No way I could recommend it.

      • Awesome front facing camera, selfies shots are really good.

  • +1

    No Mdr 1000x :(

    • Yeah that would have been nice.

  • My 8 year old samsung lcd tv just died. so This is good timing.
However, I would like a bigger screen.
What is the difference between the 49" 4K tv and the Full HD 65" tv?

    • +2

Aside from the screen size difference 49" vs 65", full HD generally indicates 1920x1080 resolution whereas 4K TVs have 3840×2160 - essentially 4 times the number of pixels compared to standard full HD TVs, which should translate to much better picture quality. The caveat of course is that normal free to air TV do not stream at 4k so you'll only benefit from blurays or some net-streamed contents.

      • +1

Or for gaming on PS4 or the upcoming Scorpio from MS

  • Sorry another question is the 49" X8000D 4K HDR TV good for Netflix or is Samsung the better brand for Netflix?

    • +1

I have both brands (not that specific TV though) and both are great for Netflix, so I don't think you need worry there.

  • +1

Just a heads up, I own the KD43X8000DS 4K HDR BRAVIA and the HDR is terrible. Tried a few games/settings on the PS4 Pro and it just looks so washed out. I read that it's down to being edge-lit, so the entire screen darkens and brightens instead of individual zones. I wouldn't even consider this a HDR-capable TV, so be mindful of this when purchasing.

Ironically, this TV was bundled with my PS4 Pro because it was meant to work great with it….

    • +1

I have the same TV and playing The Witness in HDR on a normal PS4 looks super bright and vibrant in game, switching back to the PS4 menu it becomes washed out as you've described. Seems like the HDR is only on when viewing HDR source, but I'm happy with the results.

      • I have been playing Uncharted 4 and Infamous: First Light. Both are HDR enabled and both looked super washed out. Haven't tried The Witness, but I am glad you are experiencing some better results than me (:
        Will keep playing with it.

        • +1

The only thing I can suggest is:
          1. Launch an HDR compatible game and load into it.
          2. Press the PS button to return to the dash
          3. Press Options and close the game.
When the game closes, the screen should go to black for a second while it stops HDR, and you should also notice the dash is grey and washed out before you close the game, and looks normal after the black screen. If you don't experience this behaviour then it really sounds like HDR is not being activated.

    • +1

What games did you try? And did you enable Enhanced Format and use HDMI port 2 or 3?
      from here: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800d/settings
I only loaded up The Last Of Us Remastered for a quick HDR test but it looked really good. I was looking at dark torch lit scenes though

      • I have been playing Uncharted 4 and Infamous: First Light. Both are HDR enabled and look great on other HDR TVs (like the ones Sony was using at PAX, can't remember the model).

Enabled Enhanced Format and are using HDMI 2. Have switched from RGB to YUV(?) too, no difference there.

Try looking at the sun or a really bright scene in the game and see how you go, that's when my colours become really washed out. Even the PS4 menu looks pretty grey-ish compared to having HDR turned off.

I'm also using the HDMI cable that came with the PS4 Pro, which is meant to be higher bandwidth in order to cope with 4k60fps and HDR.

        Very disappointed ):

  • +1

I bought the 43" x8000 from the Sony Store Boxing Day sale for $799 delivered. No problems with delivery and I'm very happy with the TV. The Android OS is great and streaming Netflix etc works perfectly. Highly recommended TV!

    • Isn't your the Refurbished model?

      • No it was brand new

        • -2

You sure you paid $799? I think it was $999 - it's never been lower as far as I know.

        • @kevin22: Sorry, my bad, I read 49" instead of 43".

    • +1

don't you find the menus and remote response slow? Sometimes even a delay in the little volume display popping up when you change it?
It's the only downside to this set I think. Sometimes I turn it on then try to switch straight to HDMI but there's a short period where the set just doesnt respond to the remote.

      • I have the same TV, yes it is slower than I was hoping.

  • HDRAS300R or GoPro Black 5? I'm having trouble finding comparison reviews.

  • Some of these prices are above SRP.

    Shop around people!

  • I'm assuming it's possible to use the $100 off for Xperia X Performance (XPERIAXPB) which would bring it down too $499. This seems like a decent deal, any comments on this or would I be better off spending $500 on something else. I've had a look at some reviews, they seem varied and mixed any input would be appreciated.

    • I'm on a bit of an anti-Sony thing at the moment, ever since i got my wife the M5 (horrible phone, eventually sold the 4th replacement one that we had). I've got a Huawei P9 at the moment & i think its a great phone (similar size to the Sony at 5.2"). If you want to go something bigger then maybe the OnePlus 3 (5.5").

  • Why would the 43x8000ds (silver) be $300 less (rrp) than the black 8000d?

    • Supply and demand my friend.

      • I don't think that's the case. Sure, they may discount the less popular colour more when it's on sale but why set the RRP $300 lower? Goes to show that their original pricing means nothing anymore. I also don't think I've seen the 8000DS featured on the Sony store before.

        • It's exactly the case with everything at the end of the day. They sell it $300 lower cos there's more left than what people demand for it. And it's by Sony management that forecast slow moving inventory vs current product lines and future lines which leads to price reductions.

        • @Gavman: Nevermind, I need to learn how to read. The silver model is the 43", the black one is 49" hence the price difference.
