You'll be nuts if you miss this.

Or nutless if you miss the deal.

Do you like salt on your nuts?

Just an anecdote about salted vs unsalted. Sometime back, Coles used to sell unsalted ones at higher price than salted ones. And only salted ones went on sale for 9.90 (for 750g). I prefer unsalted ones. But still bought the salted ones on special from Coles at times. I tried to sieve out the salt, but it was not very effective.

So I did multiple Coles surveys suggesting they stock the unsalted ones. Nothing changes. So too bad, no more cashews from Coles. My conclusion: those surveys were a bit waste of time; seems like you just got to buy from somewhere else.

@bluesky: plus when you're buying salted cashews you are paying for salt which you can get free from any fast food restaurant. Salt free=more cashews.

          @bluesky:
Crazy suggestion: dip the salted cashews in water.

        • @kahn: Haha, actually I did that too quite often in the past; washed them in a sieve. Only problem, if they are wet, they just do not taste as nice. Sometimes, they even go soft.

The thing I never tried is to wash the whole batch, then re-roast them. Maybe that would have worked. But I think I will just buy from Woolworths instead :-)

        • @altomic:

How do you stop the salt just dropping to the bottom? How to make it stick?

        • +1

@bluesky: Our Coles has the (hygenic) Scoop & Weigh with the gravity-fed dispensers. They have unsalted cashews, but they're around $20/kg from memory.

@LoopyLou: They salt them while still hot. This is why they're hard to desalinate.
Potato chips also have flavour/salt done before they cool, as it helps keep it on.

        • @USB-V: Thank you, yes, I get my japanese-styled rice crackers there; scooping from the back. I have seen people handle tastings with bare hands, and it can be a bit of a put-off. No, haven't gotten loose unsalted cashews from there, since they are never on sale.

  • Are these a good fat source and how would they go smoothie wise ?

Recently, at the local Woolies, I noticed a smaller packaging size (450g?), and could not find this 750g size. Thought woolies were phasing out the bigger packs. And said to myself the 9.90 cashew deals are over. Thank goodness that is not the case! :-)

  • Good timing. Just on the last of my salted cashews from the last deal.

Might go and try to home make some honey cinnamon ones with this batch.

    • Sounds interesting! How do you do this, just pour honey and sprinkle cinnanon on them, and then roast? Thanks.

Let us know how you and your batch go.

This recipe is pretty close to what I do except I don't add the maple syrup.

      • Thanks, I might give it a go, this looks yummy. Cheers.

Wish they had macadamias at that price.

  • Aldi's cashews normally sell for $9.90, however, these Woolies cashews are better and bigger, in my experience.
