"Professionals" will buy the flight to SGN and exit at Kuala Lumpur ;)

Yep and I would call this more standard AirAsia price than a real special.

      • Just wondering if I was to change my mind on going to SGN before July could I just fly to KL instead without affecting the other legs and purchasing a different fly onto Cebu.

        • Are there other legs on AirAsia? Eg. a return ticket?

If so you can't miss any leg or the rest of your flights will be cancelled.

        • @zappy32: Yes the other deal was return to Ho Chi Minh City so I guess if I changed my mind and went to Cebu instead I will also need to purchase another flight back to GC.

        • +1

All I can tell you is yes I have done this for my friend, he skipped 1 leg of the whole 4 legs itinerary and there is no problem.

My friend bought MEL-Phuket return via KL. He skipped the leg Phuket-KL and boarded plan from KL back to Melbourne.

Airasia is budget airline model and it is stop by stop so your remaining itinerary if you skipped a leg should still be usable.

Either way you can't get boarding pass to VN from Melbourne. You only check in to KL at Melbourne airport and get the next boarding pass at transit desk. If you don't want to check through your luggage just request to check baggage to KL only. You can just tell them you need to give something for your friend in KL.

        • @samehada: Thanks for the info, Will need to discuss with GF in Cebu if she can get time off work and hopefully I can get a promo for her if not hopefully I can just use it for return to KL only. It's a great deal anyway so not a big loss even if flying just to KL.

        • @aussie28:

Actually samehada seems to be correct. Nearly every other airline would cancel the flight but I can't find that in AirAsia's terms and this leads me to believe you can skip legs. Good to know!!

EDIT: I only did a rough check of their T&Cs so read through if you plan on doing this!

    • Not sure if you're being serious, I wouldn't risk it

      • It's a serious question mate, impulse bought the great deal this morning but gf in Cebu may not be happy about it so my options are to get her a flight and meet up in KL and fly onto SGN and back to Cebu for her but it appears to be more expensive then the flight from GC or just fly to Cebu.

        • Yooo aussie28 I was reply to samehada!

What I meant was, it's not a good idea to buy a flight to some place and get off at the stopover country and forfeit the rest of the journey. The reason is because the airline may consider you a "no show" and cancel the rest of your sectors i.e. Return flight too.

  • You'll still need an eVisa for SGN. And only useful if you travel hand luggage only.

And they might ask to see a return ticket or ticket out of SGN

You can request to just checkin for your first flight to KL at Australia airport.

I will never fly Air Asia again, they cancel their flights most of the time and take ages to refund the money, that's after too many follow ups, their representatives hangs up the phone, no manners at all..

    • Most of their flights are cancelled, are you sure?

      • Just to add to that, unlike Australia or Singapore, Malaysia has an aviation consumer protection and compensation law that defines in what circumstances airlines must give you food/hotel/refund etc.

        http://www.mavcom.my/en/consumer/

      • I've had a couple of flights cancelled within the last few years but half the time it worked to my advantage.

        • How's that?

        • +1

@JetBombat: just had different plans at the time so was able to get a full refund.

  • Just got back from an air asia trip from Malaysia and all I can say their good for budget savvy like me. They are not too strict with caryy on baggage. As for refund in case of cancellation of flight they are pretty good as I got back the money within a week without following it up.

    • +1

Have you had to rebook with someone else after cancellation, was it much extra?

      • +1

I haven't experienced that but they did changed my flight to a different day but I was still in Australia that time so I just cancelled the whole trip. That's the time they refunded the whole money within a week.

    • When you say they're not strict with carry on luggage, were you a little or a lot over?

      • I was way over so does my partner who had a duffel bag and a backpack 😉

Just got back from malaysia last week, Kl is nice but its a city, I recommend langkawi island top left corner of Malaysia near thai border on top of penang, 32c and sunny every day and some amazing beaches and the island is duty free including alcohol, atm you can fly for around 350 return to Malaysia and thinking of going again just because going around is so cheap and work is quiet, btw the Australian dollar is almost the best its ever been against the Malaysian dollar, got an uber for hour and 15 mins for around 15 Australian dollars, for dinner i would get two dishes and a long neck beer for around 15 dollars, massages are around 10 dollars, hotels for a 3 star including nice size room are around $25 a night

I feel out of breath just reading this!

      • I think Belv is still struggling with the Malaysian heat…

    • Saw some photos on google, beaches are not as clean as in Australia, it this true?

      • Pangkor, Langkawi, Perhentian islands have some jaw dropping tropical beaches (season dependent)

        • +1

Pangkor and Langkawi is alright. You'll find the islands on the east coast (redang, tioman) to have nicer beaches :)

Oh and tioman is duty free if I recall

        • yes but atm redang is in rain season and most hotels are closed, east cost raining, west cost sunny

      • My main issues were stepping on rocks and shells in the water.

      • Langkawis beaches are very clean and ten times better than most of aus beaches, you can find a beach north of island with like 10 people on it and look out and see islands and swim in amazing warm water, one island i went to see monkeys the beaches where great but there was rubbish due to people feeding monkeys

And how's the exchange rate on full stops faring at the moment?

      • +1

the best rate in the last decade history according to XE

  • Sweet deal but how do I prevent the system from adding 20kg baggage?

    • Never mind, worked it out. Just have to proceed to checkout.

  • Any of you looking at booking flights at Airasia? I have credit that is expiring in 2 weeks (from double booking) and looking to sell it off, $466 in total, happy to take any reasonable offer. PM for further info. :)

    • That sounds brilliant…just tried but I am unable to PM you :(

  • Sweet. I'll be eating my way through Malaysia. They have the best street food.

    • mate its awesome, i even ate at some questionable restaurants and the meals were full of flavor and spice, got back to melb and tried some "good malay restaurant and it was rubbish compared to a $5 meal over there"

      • Yeah, there's hardly any decent Malaysian restaurants in Sydney either. You can't capture the raw taste of street food in a restaurant kitchen

        • I can't find many with "authentic" tasting Malaysian food so to speak, but Albee's Kitchen in Campsie is pretty good, and I find Petaling Street Haymarket pretty good too. As I said, not "authentic" but still tasty! Papparich is ok (for certain things) but a little bit more pricey due to smaller portion sizes.
