Nah, you can just use them as a drink coaster.

      • +5

They're cartridges, not discs, so can't even be used as coasters.

        • Shot coasters?

        • -2

          @Sturmeh:

I think you misspelt the first word. Vowel should be an 'i'.

        • use the game boxes as coasters

    • No shit?

    • no, you can switch the order around and get games 1st

  • +3

Anyone know if they'll be stocking the Wii u version or are we expecting just EbGames and maybe Jb hifi to?

    • +1

Tough one. I've noticed my Big W shrinking their games range. Best to check your local store when the game is launched.

      • Yer fair point

        • check out target a day or two before release…

    • Target might. Gamesmen as well but unless you live near them, shipping costs would make it more expensive than any potential savings you get from them.

    • FYI JB definitely had the Wii U version advertised in store the other day.

  • +4

Super Bomberman + Super multitap . Those were the days :)

    • +4

Back in those days bomberman were small asians.

      • +2

        Triggered.

      • +2

depicting them as middle eastern was too controversial

      • Didn't they ride Kangaroos in 94, 3 and 64?

  • +2

I just hope my EBgames will price match if I go to the midnight launch.

    • +3

I wouldn't count on it. If they let one person do it, everyone will want to do it, and they lose out on $20 per game. They'll have the excuse of 'Target/Big W aren't open now' to get out of it too.

      • +2

I spoke with my store (Albert St, Brisbane) they said they're happy to match if I can show actual proof of prices advertised by Target or Big W themselves.

        • Most tell me no though so, don't go expecting it. Check first.

        • Yeah Albert St is usually where I do pickups from but this time I ordered it at Aspley as it's closer to home.

        • @ruddiger7: Yeah, my local is Carindale, but they're reasonably useless there. the guys at Albert St are normally pretty on point with things. Having to explain their own promotion for tradeins towards the Switch preorder at Carindale was the last straw for me

        • Hey do you know if I can still get a pricematch if I already paid for it?

        • @edisonwhy: I think so ive heard people say just take the receipt in and the catalog.

    • +1

In the past they wouldn't price match for me at a midnight launch.
If they don't for you, you can go back and refund the difference within a week of purchase.
      Edit: Beaten by above comment.

      • Wait you can refund the difference??.. what if bigw has no more stock at the time of asking for refund?

    • +1

EBGames sucks for price matching. I wouldn't rely on it.

      • Mine are usually fine, but I have never had to price match at a midnight launch is all.

    • My local EB store told me they would price match if a cheaper price came up. Manager confirmed it with me the day I preordered. The catch is the Big W needs to be close by and if its in a mall, the Big W/Target/JB must be in the same mall.

    • +2

They said they would if I show the catalogue at the midnight launch with it, catch is the catalogue only comes out on the 3rd,after the midnight launch.

      • Someone usually gets an earlier copy though, hopelly someone can upload a screenshot.

  • It's not on the Big W site, just like the Target pricing isn't on their site either. Until there's actual confirmation of those, I'd take them with a grain of salt, because there's zero proof here.

    • Targets pricing is advertised in store. Big W not sure though.

      • +1

I've heard it's advertised in store at Target, but my local one only just announced they're getting the games and don't have the prices listed.

        • They wouldn't let me pre order anything other than the console, but they had prices up for botw, 1,2 and some accessories. I decided I won't be jumping on a second set of joycons til mariokart though. But they were priced at 99.99.

        • +1

          @Soluble:

When I went to order my Switch console, Zelda and accessories from Target, they have a memo that allows preordering of all the items they currently have on display (1,2 switch and Zelda being the only 2 games they allow preorders). The prices were exactly the same as the ones mentioned in this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290960

The store I went to had very few preorders, I was the second person.

        • +2

          @poisonkiller89:
Yeah shouldn't have gone on a Sunday -.- I did see there console numbers though, only 5 neons, and it was either 15 or 20 greys. But they had no idea what they were doing, she originally told me I couldn't pre order… I pointed to the large display with 'Pre order now' on it.

        • @Soluble:

Yeah same experience here, both times when I went to preorder (console and game/accessories separately), the guys didn't know what they had to do and had to get help as it differs slightly from a standard layby. Preorders should still be available if you wanted one or can wait until launch - just let them know to refer to the memo for instructions.

I ordered the grey as I preferred them over the neon and I guess Nintendo expected that as much.

        • @poisonkiller89: Went with the grey as well. Figured I will get a second set anyway and can grab the neon at some stage anyway. Would prefer to grab a ltd ed set as a second set though.

    • +4

Source are the retailers, catalogues will be out this weekend (in letterboxes ;) ) . Not that you can price match before launch anyway.

So let's see if I'm wrong then.

  • any proof?

    • +1

Only Bomberman is showing up on the Big W link as $79 and can be bought now.

Vooks is usually very reliable with prices, I'm assuming they know someone in Big W (or its in their next catalogue) with these prices. It will become apparent in the next few days.

Guys, keep an eye out on the following site too:

    http://www.comparegames.com.au/Wii-U/The-Legend-Of-Zelda-Breā€¦

    • why do they have no switch only wii u

  • -3

I think the slide on controls will get loose and floppy very quickly. When they bring out MK8D or SSB it will be a problem. It'll turn into an unintended Negcon.

    • Would be fixed in the xl

    • +1

They have a locking mechanism, you could be right but Nintendo generally make solid hardware.
There's always the Pro controller too.

      • +1

They did have to double the wrist-strap cord width on Wii controls due to people breaking it and their TVs and even after that there was a recall/rubber protector free upgrade.

There should be a law about users stressing electronics more than designers can comprehend. I'm soft on controls, still have many from 30 years ago…but there is a lot of torque running through a control. We'll see :)

I have one of the Ascii Gamecube Keyboard controls. You can hear a bit of strain even if you use the outer controls lightly.

        • The Wiimote was great. People hacked them to do some interesting stuff - like make a smartboard out of a projector and screen. But yeah it wasn't and isn't perfect, and there were TV destroying teething issues, as well as injuries.

    • +1

The slide is a solid metal rail. Beyond attacking it with pliers, it's not going to get floppy anytime soon. Trust in Nintendo

    • The side of the switch uses metal rails, and the controller uses metal receivers, it's very unlikely to get wonky fast.

  • +7

I still can't believe how much they're charging for Bomberman R. It's just a relatively small downloadable title but they're charging for it like it's Zelda. Also 1,2 Switch should have been free with the console. I was going to preorder but at these prices I might just wait for bundles.

    • To put it in another perspective:

      • Street Fighter V came out full priced with not that much content. True, one game not being worth it does not mean another game shouldn't be criticised for the same issue. At the end of the day though, it'll come down to how much you value the game. I think a lot of Bomberman fans would get this anyway, as there hasn't been a new Bomberman title in awhile.
      • As for 1/2 Switch, while I agree it should have been a pack in title, apparently in GameStop, a lot of people pre-ordering are happy that they can choose the game they want - not everyone wants to play 1/2 Switch, pack in or not.
      • +2

I LOATHED everything I saw about 1,2,Switch, until I saw the Giantbomb Quick look.

Not worth the retail price, but a few drinks and grieves around will be a blast.

        • -2

You could say that about any retail game now adays, 1 2 Switch will have alot of replay for its minigames, plus its portable too and uses new motion gaming. How many open world, shooters, sports, action movie games do the same thing with little change and mediocre movie visuals to compensate? Alot, Jrpgs certainly arent worth it today, and neither are alot of EA, Ubisoft WB, Sony, Activision games, but people buy and enjoy them for whatever reason.

This game will focus on gameplay, new motion controls you know, for fun! Plus its multiplayer too so it will have more legs, especially as the system can be taken anywhere. Gamers need to leave the silly hardcore mindset, because most games are casual, and most they play are.

Nerds pretend people dont continue to play these minigame games but they generally get alot of replay, thats why they put a bunch of games on the one disc… Alot stuck with the Wii and didn't move on to the Wii U due to horrid marketing.

But im sure gamers will pretend nobody enjoys these and write it off like they do with certain games from certain companies.

    • +1

If you buy from base.com its reasonably cheap. Like $52 delivered which is reasonable. VAT gets removed at checkout. Agreed though local prices are rediculous.

  • When is release?

    • +4

      March is three.

      • +3

Why is this guy getting downvotes?
        I don't understand ozbargainers sometimes…

        • +1

          I was being a bit of a smart-ass…sorry!

          3rd of March :)

  • Honestly, I'd love to know the digital prices for those games to price compare.

    • Digital will probably be the full retail price. Which sucks.

    • go look at EB's RRP's and that'll give you a very good guide

  • Will be getting 1 2 Switch, Bomberman, and Zelda. Strong launch! Great to see motion and Bomberman games make another comeback! A 2d Mario would have been nice but this will be awesome!

Those other jrpgs really should be free to play, and or 5 dollar downloads at launch, they are free on tablets, phones now, and the gameplay is very repetitive rehashes of ps1, early Nintendo with little change.

Zelda BOTW is a little pricey given its from the Wii U, but hey, hopefully its not a copy paste open world game list most of the other disasters this gen and at least its a handheld game also… From what ive seen it could be one of the best open world games this gen, with unique gameplay, hopefully not generic like Just Cause, Witcher 3.

Sadly Horizon Zero Dawn seems to be decent, but not great. I am hoping Nintendo can turn the tide, otherwise we have to wait for the Saints Row games to bring back some creativity and crazy.

    • +2

I was hoping that we would see a downloadable version of Super Mario Maker see8ng as I skipped the Wii U but think I'm out of luck :(

Im pretty much BotW, 1 2 switch, just dance (daughter) mk8, and Mario later in the year. That's already probably more games than I've played on the XB1.

      • I think they will do a Sequel to Super Mario Maker on Switch, there were other gameplay styles that they didn't include in the original along with items they left out….

I like Xb1 too, I think the Switch will be alot of fun.

  • I was hoping to get Zelda when the WiiU came out. I am thinking of just getting Zelda on the WiiU for starters and then wait for a good bundle pack later on for the switch. What would be FAIR would be a download of Zelda for the WiiU and a free download for the Switch if you have already purchased it.
Hope they can be good guys about it. Wait and see.

    • LOL Nintendo does not do cross buy like some PS titles.

  • -3

    Surprised people buying the Switch..,

    • I'm buying cos it's a powerful handheld. I have. A gaming pic so playing a triple a third party game isn't a problem. The real problem for me is playing on tv. My parents DESPISE GAMES. I once played pinball on a preowned Xbox 360 I had for few days and my dad flipped out.

So portable home console is very appealing to me

    • -1

Nintendo was really desperate to call it Switch no one wants to switch to it

      • +1

        Badum ts

    • Why do they call it the Nintendo Switch? Cos when you see it you do a 360 and switch it off

      • Why do they call it the Nintendo Switch? Because I like it just as much on the top or bottom of my TV cabinet.

Vooks is amazing. So much research into that post and the one for accessories. Good job, Vooks.
