WOW, DM instantly price beat 1st choice's $39.00 deal! By a massive $0.05cents!.
Now I can go to 1st choice and get them to price beat DM, and I can save a further 5 cents.Keep price beating each others a few more rounds and u get it for free LOL
First choice only better than Dan Murphy's when there's vouchers
Don't know that that's strictly true anymore. First Choice have been leading with regards to specials over the past 12 months.
After watching Dan Murphys open up new stores and rather quickly capture quite a lot of the market, they have no need to be price leaders any more. All they need do now is throw a few scraps to the chooks (by way of low prices on a narrow basket of popular items that make up the bulk of their sales, and the occasional special) and silence any people looking for competition by matching/beating others' offers, all the while jacking up prices to RRP on everything else in the range. Put simply, they don't need to try anymore.
At least first choice are trying - the vouchers/flybuys points/delivery deals have all been a good start at clawing back a little market share. They could still do a lot better though!
Isn't this explanation corroborating the point? The first choice vouchers lower prices below the Dan Murphy price beat + Woolworths gift cards + cash rewards. But without the vouchers, first choice only is price matching and gets purchases based on nearest location and opening hours.
