        • Where does the 8% come from?

        • @Pinchy:
          Japan's equivalent of gst

  • Proof?

Wow, $500? That's more than the PS4 Pro.
    What a rip off.

  • I will stick to their mobile games for now. Much cheaper even with IAP. Hardcore gaming still best to be at home. When I get outside I do other things not gaming. Over $500 for switch too dear.

Besides I got 3DS XL already that I barely use

Combined with Wish cards, this is a great deal. Thinking I'll take the plunge.

  • Hmm, I wonder if I can get a refund on my pre-order at Target…

    • I'd wait, they may offer something similar, otherwise change your mind and refund it afterwards.

  • Anyone know if big w or target are gunna sell the wii u zelda cheaper day 1 as they do with other games? or are they out of the wii u business?

    • +1

Australian Retailers – Wii U Version

      BeatTheBomb – $86.95
      EB Games – $89.95
      The Gamesmen – $78.00
      JB Hi-Fi – $79
      OzGameShop – $75.99
      Target – $79

      • thanks, ozgameshop takes too long to ship so think ill go jbhifi

  • What's the best place to buy bigw gift cards? 5% off is normal, anything on top of that? Any idea if staff get the usual 10% on consoles too?

  • Would it be cheaper still importing it from overseas seeing as every other country gets it for at least $70 cheaper than us?

I'm sorry Nintendo but your console's don't belong anywhere near the $500 mark.

    • Would it be cheaper still importing it from overseas seeing as every other country gets it for at least $70 cheaper than us?

Probably. The good thing is that the Switch is now region-free! (unlike the Wii U and 3DS)
Heard a few already ordering from Amazon US.

    • Can import from UK for like $410 , but they on backorder

      • What about Japan? It's $350 AUD there, wonder how much shipping would add up to.

  • +1

i don't think i've used my wii u for more than 10 hours.

so this time round, i will just buy zelda and play it on last gen.

forking out $500 without a library of games is too big of a ask.

my tv cabinet already full of consoles of all sorts

    • I used my Wii U quite a bit - there were plenty of games, just with large gaps in between. This is different as the lack of games is basically intentional so that they can space them out more regularly. In addition, Nintendo has essentially combined portable and home console teams.

  • I"m heading to Japan in May, I presume it would be much better (e.g. cheaper) for me just to buy it there?

Any downsides from buying in Japan? The only thing I can think of is needing a power adapter, plus having to lug it back home. Anything else?

    • Why not buy it here, using 5% off woolies cards and take it with you and claim TRS. Now you're under $400, have an australian warranty/PSU and get it straight away.

      • Sorry how did you get to $<400?

        My calculation came to $405 = $469 * 0.95 (5% off woolies) * 10/11 (TRS).

        Switch is priced at 29,980Y — which based on today's FX is $343 (1 AUD = 87.24Y)

Or have I missed something ?

        • Maybe I was wrong, but 469-5% is $23.45.

          469-10% TRS is 46.90

          469-70.35 =398.65

Your receipt shows you paid 469 so that's what TRS is calculated on unless I'm wrong. Only been researching TRS recently.

My plan is 469-5% TM discount is $445.55, I will only get TRS on that amount so will be $401. Then hoping for a price drop with.price protection.

        • @Soluble:

While I wish that were the case, the Tax Invoice should show the final amount paid to be $445.55 (469 * 0.95).

It may show the itemisation of 469 (RRP) and 23.45 (discount), but they will work off the amount paid as it is written on the tax invoice

        • +3

@devpress: not for discounted gift cards. You have $469 in gift cards. You dont get the 5% off at point of purchase. So while your invoice for the gift cards would show you paid the lesser amount, your invoice for the console would show you paid with $469 worth of gift cards and that is you total including GST.

        • @Soluble:

Really? I'm surprised that's the case (though be great if it was indeed true). Just curious if this is something you've done before?

        • +2

@devpress: I'm 100% that the price on the receipt is the price paid from the gift card total which is $469. Normally I would stack my Coles TM discount with discounted target cards, but decided this time the price protection paying with CC would probably be the better option.

I've never had an overseas trip planned when I've purchased something I could take with me, so for that it will be my first time.

        • +1

          @devpress:

Yea, why wouldn't it be? It doesn't matter how you much it costs you to obtain the gift card. The invoice will show much you the actual payable amount. By your logic, if you got the $100 gift card for free, then the payable amount should be $0 less.

        • @devpress: No idea what you mean here. The card which is purchased is the value of the card. So when you pay for an item which costs $500 with a gift card worth $500, the receipt is for $500.

The fact that you gave some other company $400 for that card doesn't change the item price and cards that you used - the receipt in that case would still be $500.

    • Forgive my ignorance but is Switch region free?

    • In my experience, new electronics (including consoles) are actually MORE expensive in Japan than here, particularly with the dollar how it is now.
This was originally why Japanese manufacturers were region-locking consoles, because Japanese people were importing US consoles to save money.

Second-hand electronics are another story though :)

This comment is so full of irony I don't even know where to begin.

      • I can confirm this statement.

      • -3

Didn't say adults couldnt play them, relax, video games not that important but they are fun.

        • -1

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is rated R18+. How does being illegal to sell to a minor gel with your theory?

        • -3

          @Frugal Rock:
Means nothing, ratings system their to stop lobby groups and parents from freaking out. They put in alot of violence, questionable stuff to appeal to the blockbuster teen/tween movie going crowd,

because they think adult stuff is cool. They focus less on gameplay and more on movie visuals now.

Ask how many people started playing GTA and what their age was. You'd be suprised.

Doesnt mean adults cant play, but it is what it is.

        • @BNN:
You are shooting 0/2 on 'their' today, Yoda :p Are your views formed by getting an actual computer science degree, learning to program and working in the industry or did you watch half an episode of Good Game once? The average age of a video gamer is 31-32 in an industry larger than Hollywood. If you think belittling videogames makes you Chuck Norris, offer up your blokey alternatives.

        • -3

          @Frugal Rock:

Not interested in debates, i dont really care. Not that important. Yes they skew the stats and the industry downplays it, they say its 20-30% kids but they downplay the Minecraft audience, cod, mobile, phone games and the fact most parents/adults have to work, kids have the most time to game, on mobile, consoles too, not debatable. Many buy the systems for multimedia or for kids to play and them to supervise, but the industry includes those adults to increase numbers so websites internet gamers can feel better about their hobby, which is for kids.

It is what it is. Like i said, you can enjoy games, but like Star Wars, action figures, collector cards, its for kids. Video games are right next to the other toys in stores for a reason.

You can still play and enjoy them, just dont need to be so worried about status of gaming. Not that important.

        • @BNN:
You must hang around in Toys'r'us, because they are next to DVDs in the entertainment section in most stores, not the toy section. JB Hifi hmmm. Harvey Norman, no. Target, no. Big W, no. Name your retailers that do as you say.

        • -4

          @Frugal Rock:
It really doesnt matter dude, like Target, Big W they do. I mean i don't know why any of that would be offensive to state. Yes other stores carry them in other areas, but the main ones for consumers, yeah they're near the toys. Even Eb games has alot of toys, amiibos and action figures near games. Game= Toy. There are toys right near the other video games at JB too as a matter of fact. Because games are toys, perhaps thinly disguised as movies now in many cases, but yeah.

        • @BNN:
I would say it was more of a case of your incorrect premise, but then I'd have to explain 'premise' to you.

    • -1

Let me help you out with that tricky, monosyllabic word 'their'. Yeah, it's, um, 'their' in that context. You might also consider learning to apostrophise before calling others out as children.

      • -5

People type on phones, but the grammar police and spellcheckers are always welcome. : )

Didn't call anybody children, please read the whole comment first, instead of skimming to come up with witty responses fam.

        • Did you proof read your usage of 'said' in that sentence, or did you skim even the writing part? You called the activity childish. It's pretty clear that logical extension is beyond you.

  • 1 2 Switch price, sweet. Will probably get it separate depending, but bundles are always nice.

Hopefully Nintendo offers some of those jrpgs that some companies are trying to sell, but for free, maybe as pack ins because in this day and age they are not worth it, especially now they are free games on mobile.

  • Who is vooks.net? Assume it's not owned by Big W

  • Pre-ordered one Switch from Amazon Japan, it only costs me A$350 for the console, which also includes shipping cost.
The launch price for Switch here is ridiculous high.

    • As of right now on amazon JP (I think cause I cant speak JP

39800 Japanese Yen (458.552 Australian Dollar) before shipping

I also think they are out of stock cause I saw the ! symbol but again, I cant ready JP

      • +1

The third shipment of Amazon Pre-order was sold out. Now you could only see the reseller price on Amazon JP.
Amazon was selling it 29980 plus 2300 shipping.

        • Does that come with a local warranty?

    • From what I read the Japanese console comes with a 110v adapter that won't work here?

  • I called my local Big W and the woman said it's still too soon for them to have any information about deals. Is there any actual evidence of Big W doing this?

    • +1

No specific proof, however this website (vooks) is usually very reliable from my experience and often has 'insider' type info, so I would say it's correct and vooks has also said that the catalogue will be coming shortly as well.

  • Anyone managed to inquire if EB Games will match this price?

  • 10% off EBGames Giftcard + TRS claim
Lets hope they can match bigw too

    • I'd also like to know how to get 10% off eb gift cards.

    • $519 for console + Breath of the Wild

    Games

    • $75 each for Breath of the Wild, Just Dance 2017 or Super Bomberman R
    • $55 for 1,2 Switch

    • $25 each for Switch console case (3 different colours)

    • will eb price match base on this picture or do they require the whole catalogue?

Just check with eb, they dont price match bundles unless they are also doing the same bundles but they will match individual prices.

good deal, but geeze this thing is expensive to start with. gonna play Zelda on wiiu. easy as to mod these days too

  • +1

thanks mate, will cancel my EB preorder, and get the zelda bundle. Will use Pokitpal to purchase Big W e-gift card at discounted rate to save further (think its 6 or 8%)

  • +1

Update: I just called my local Big W and he confirmed the bundles, but you can no longer reserve/pre order them. They were offered to those who preordered the console and the remaining few units will be sold on Friday morning. Depending on the response, there could be hundreds of people in line from 6am outside Big W stores on Friday morning vying for this deal.

    • +2

Even the US appears to have an engineered shortage to create a buzz. You can't even buy one on US Amazon.

    Gah, wobbly dsticks..f Nintendo

  • EB at Watergardens where exceptional price matching everything at the 10pm - midnight launch

  • +4

First in line, got there at 730! Very organised Big W. There were about 20 people at the Werribee Big W and a couple missed out on the non preorder consoles. Good luck out there!

    http://m.imgur.com/bBwPHPr?r

For the bargainers I got the bundle for $445.55

That was with a $50 free gift card from PTV and 5% through cashrewards. Basically free Zelda and 5% off the console.

whens the scorpio being released ?

  • +3

Picked one up. Don't listen to the nay sayers who compare based on specs. Zelda is amazing. Recommend the pro controller for long sessions. Much more comfortable.

  • Anyone buying the Zelda bundle from the Big W website? $9.90 for shipping, I think I might pull the trigger.

    • +2

      Cheaper than RRP

  • +1

    The game is amazing!

  • Went to Big W Macarthur Central (Brisbane) this morning an hour after open. No one was around and got the 4th last console (grey only) and no bundles as they sold out of games. There were about 20 people lining up for the 7:30am open.

    • I was at Macarthur at 7:25, and yeah there was a crowd of around 25-30 waiting for the door to open. When they got inside, the guy behind the entertainment counter asked the first person in the line if he'd pre-ordered, and the answer was no - the Big W guy said that their stock was pretty close to their pre-order numbers, so anyone who didn't pre-order would need to come back at 12 after they'd had a chance to give out their pre-orders. Over half of the line left.

(I'm told that Chermside apparently had 'plenty', though. Not sure if that's still true a few hours later.)

  • Just grabbed the coloured Zelda bundle so far so good :)

  • I went to the Ballarat Big W store at 7.30am before work (fortunately started at 9am!) fearing that there would be a massive crowd and I'd miss out. Cancelled my EB pre order the day before so was counting on getting the cheap zelda bundle. To my surprise there was no one waiting there, so I waited in my car for half an hour until a few people began to show up.

All in all, there were probably about 15 people in line, I was number 3. Got my zelda bundle, pretty happy at $519, used Pokitpal to get 5% off a $500 gift card. Still would have liked a further discount and tried to get a few mates to give me their staff discount but apparently they can fire you for giving it out. Ah well, hopefully its an epic game and worth the spend (will play when I finish work).

  • Once again, OzBargain has saved me some money!

    Cheers, lads!

Heads up according to this JB Hi Fi will price match the Nintendo Switch + Zelda bundle.

    • that's awesome, going to pick mine up from JB after work and hopefully get this. Will pay with discounted JB vouchers to sweeten the deal :)

    • Just get 1 from JB HiFi, yes they price match Big W price

  • I am sitting on the fence with buying this with the Zelda bundle on offer. Is it worth the money? I am aware of the 5% discount with wish gift cards at big w.

    • The switch does feel quite nice to play with and Zelda so far is awesome!

    • Zelda is actually incredible. Haven't played a game this good in years.

And I'm impressed with the switch…

    • Just get it.

  • Bundle sold out in all Adelaide stores, few individual consoles floating around and a few copies of Zelda floating around, no stores have the bundle in stock and won't raincheck.
