I could build a way better system for the same price.

    • Where at??

      • MSY.

        • +2

Um. How? I priced up a similar system for $479 unbuilt and undelivered from MSY below.

How do you expect to get MSY to make a better system than that, built and delivered for the same price?

  • no video card?????

    • Intel HD Graphics is a part of i5

  • +1

    Complete rip-off
I can do this for less price

    • and sell it for under $500?

    • price from MSY
      G-B H55M-D2H $110
      i5 650 $219
      2G ddr3 1333 PQI $54
      Seagate 500G $51
      case $?
      + build for you

      • The prices quoted are they single price? most system builders buy in bulk and save quite a bit more than your normal msy etc price

      • Case in pic = Huntkey A502, $25 with no PSU

      • +1

$434 plus case? ($50) so you will build it for $16? lol.

    • Cool, do you have a website?
How do i view your wares?

  • +3

No optical drive and no O/S? Shopping Square systems are just a bit 'special' :-))

  • +4

    From MSY:

    A-Power Mars M2-3010 with 680W PSU $45
    Intel Core i5-650 3.20Ghz $219
    Seagate SATA 500GB HDD $51
    TEAM 2GB DDR3 1333 $54
    GA-H55M-D2H $110
    Total $479

That doesn't include putting the parts together.

So considering it's built and includes delivery, it's a decent deal. Not great, but decent. Especially if you don't live near an MSY or Umart price level store.

  • +1

doesn't MSY charge $70 for assembly

surely you can see shoppingsquare is appealing to the avg. joe who can buy a box, turn it on and if anything goes wrong, call one store?

for a measly $30 saving that's a fair ask to me

that said i wouldn't buy from shopppingsquare

  • if i can put a comp together anyone can. everything only goes in 1 spot. its foolproof. hardest part i found was connectiong the case buttons to the right sockets on the motherboard.

    • +5

Not everyone wants to put a computer together. If my grandmother needed a computer, her first thought would not be to purchase parts separately, pick up a screwdriver and get cracking on her 'rig'. The fact that this pre-built system is being offered at MSY-competitive/beating prices is worthy of a +1. It would have been more newbie friendly with screen, keyboard and OS, however.

    • +3

lol reminds me of the IBM PC product manager when he bought his first pc in pieces it assembled well,

He just couldnt work out why it wouldnt turn on….. Needless to say most people dont know which cables go where on a motherboard

  • it's a reasonable price,not a deal.

  • +1

At most it's probably about a $30 to $60 saving since the system is prebuilt and shipped to you.

But the savings come from using a lousy case and generic PSU. Wouldn't be surprised if the PSU turned out to be a SHAW…

  • +2

I've got $498 if you can build a better box for me and deliver it. :)

  • +8

No optical drive? awwwwww, how am i suppose to install windows now.

    • +4

This. 100x this. Seriously, you can't offer a PC, without an OS or optical drive. The rest I can live without, but you're just making life painful for everyone by not including either….

      • +1

Absolutely! If this is a simple low-end PC, you can't make it hard to get an O/S onto the machine.

    • -1

If you have a PC at home…… and you're buying this to replace it;take the optical from the other box and put it into this one. OR…..take the HDD out of your old one and whack it in this one. Just a thought! :P

      • different chipset, windows will not start up.
BTW, A desktop without Optical Drive is pointless. especially, this TOWER CASE PC do not come with OS.

        • Ensure your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers are using the MS default drivers before you remove it from the old computer and it'll be fine.

    • +3

Intall Windows off a USB drive.

  • pre built system and you save $50 at most doing it yourself, stop being a bunch of *** and get it if it you want it or not. but i wouldn't buy it, i would probably buy a lappy for 200 more save you the hassel of getting an o/s and drive plus lcd screen + keyboard and mouse.
the deals shit really overall give it a negative review

    MODERATOR WARNING - FOUL LANGUAGE

  • they sell $50 usb optical drives everywhere

  • How does this computer compare to the pc from aldi posted here?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/28832

    • +1

Medion Akoya would be better, considering that it is actually cheaper than MSY parts prices, and comes with a 2 year warranty.

    • +2

Easily worth the extra $200 for the Aldi computer — includes OS, better video card, bigger HDD, more RAM, includes optical drive, includes KB and mouse, includes FireWire, eSATA, Wi-Fi, MUCH better warranty (2 years — just take it down to your local Aldi's rather than pay for shipping).

NEVER buy an ultra low-end machine. Case will be crappy, PSU will be crappy (as in the cheapest possible parts they can build it with).

Crappy case = PITA to work on and something will break. Low quality fans will get noisy after 12 months. Airflow usually garbage. Switches usually garbage.

Crappy PSU = absolute min specs to run the machine with no scope for expansion (ie no ability to add a dedicated GPU after the on-board has dated) + extra heat = lower component life expectancy

You will have issues with it after the warranty runs out as it was built to a price. Ultra-budget builds are best steered clear of. They do come back to bite you at a later date (usually about 5 mins after the warranty runs out) (I run a PC repairs business). Get something with a decent PSU, decent case, all the bits (ie at least a bloody optical drive!) and if you can afford it, a reasonable motherboard (more USB slots, more interfaces, better BIOS interface, more current chipset). The extra $100 you spend now will save you miney in repairs in 1-2 years time when the crappy machine's parts start to go belly up!

Thats my 5c worth anyway :)
