  • Status Credits or points?

    • Status credits - thanks for pointing it out.

    • Status credits

      • $569 return Melbourne to Beijing (Usually 80 SC, now 160)

$3.55 per SC seems pretty good.

        • -1

Not sure how you got 160 but I did MEL-HKG-PEK-HKG-MEL and it only came to 45 SC

        • @nightelves:
          MEL-SYD-PEK return is (10+30)x2 = 80

  • booo, Just booked 280 Status Credits worth of flights last week. damn.

Short window for booking, only 4 days.

    • +1

Cancel, get your refund voucher, rebook, pay $80 rebooking fee, get 560 status credits?

      • +1

Good advice and considered doing just that. But my flights are now 2k more expensive.

My new SC year just started 1 march, hard to know i I'll even need the SCs to maintain level. At any rate, no level is worth $2,000 imo.

        • +1

Yep, for $2000 you could earn a stack more than 260SC for this promotion. I find it troublesome that you just booked flights, now they are $2000 more. Feel free to PM me your routes/dates and I can take a look to see if I can get you them for less than $2k.

        • @dazzywazzy: main SC booking was SYD<->CCP 2-jun to 11-Jun in premium ec (sale). Got for $2,200 But all the sale seats looks like they are sold now.

To be honest, I'd rather not fiddle with it. I need to fly those dates and flights because I've got my staff linking up with me out of Sydney.

No doubt there are cheaper ways to earn SCs. I never bother going out of my way to chase them, but I do tweak some things to make sure earn is optimised.

I do have full flex Econ Sydney <-> Hammilton island. Wonder if I can just cancel that, get credit and rebook. I think they might restrict you though for this promotion, because they issue the credit to each passenger, and it's linked somehow to the original booking. Again, not worth the risk for the 60 SCs.

        • @ChickenTalon: Agree with you on all fronts mate.

If you were desperate, you could ring Qantas and cancel and rebook the same seat on the phone, explaining to the agent why you're doing it. Depending on your status, you may have some luck.

I think it's probably not worth the risk, but there would be others out there crazier than us :)

  • Only between Australia and New Zealand?

    • +1

Qantas operated: all domestic and international flights where status credits are normally earned.
Emirates operated: flights with a Qantas flight number between Australia and New Zealand

  • Just to confirm only Emirates operated flights AU to NZ? Looking at booking SYD to DUB which is QF coded but operated by Emirates. If I read this correctly they would not be included right?

    • Nope, not included.

  • If you cancel an existing booking and then rebook the flights, would this be eligible?

  • +1

Thanks for this, was looking at booking QF flights today. Does anyone know if it matters if I book through the Qantas website or a third party website? Flights are a lot cheaper on STA for example.

    • When they were doing double points last year, I booked through a 3rd party (iwtf.com) and was eligible. Can't confirm that this also is, but I would say likely, based on that.

    • +2

You could always book on qantas, and take advantage of the price promise: http://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/price-promise/global/e…

    • Book however you like. Just b aware that some 3rd party sites have a habit of taking your money and then issuing the ticket later, might take you beyond 6-March

Best follow the advice above and see if they will match

      • Even Qantas has a habit of ticketing late on some more complex itineraries as I've discovered quite a few times :D

  • Booked.240 SC flight last wek :<

Sale fare so cant cancel :<

  • Wonder if American Airlines flights coded with a QF flight number will qualify.

    • As per the terms, no.

  • Can i book flex fares now and just move it around as required? I'll definitely be flying to the destination this month but not exactly sure which flight yet

    • Should work.

I changed the dates of a non-flex flight which was booked in last years promo. Had to pay $400 change fee, but the bonus status credits came through. I'd image it would be the same with a flex flight, it's an alteration to the initial booking. Not a brand new one

    • +1

      Nope.

If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply.

      From the t&cs

      • Thanks. Hmmm… so basically flex fares are useless if that is applied to them. I might give them a call to clarify what a "change" is. Pushing my luck but nothing to lose..

        Cheers

        • +1

That same condition was on last years promo. Many reported getting the bonus on frequent flyer forums when they made changes to the booking. I can also confirm first hand that it was fine

But you never know. They may have changed the logic in the background.

  • To cancel and rebook the exact same flights, there's a $100 difference. Wondering if it's worth doing this for the extra Status Credits.. what do you all think?

    • Depends on how many extra status credits you'd get by cancelling and rebooking. A $100 difference for an additional 100 SC would be a great deal IMO.

      • Just to clarify if I did a return trip which consists of:

        Adel > Syd
        Syd > San Fran
        San Fran > Syd
        Syd > Adel
        Using this calculator - https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/do/dyns/initialPointsEarned

That would equate to 220 SC, with the promotion, I'd earn 440?

        • +3

IMO theres no point chasing SC's unless you are going to gain or maintain gold or up.

        • +1

@skimmermilk: yep agree with skim milk, it will be worth it only if the additional sc help you cross over to the next level up.

        • I won't bother if that's the case. I just bought my first Qantas flights and don't think I'll be flying that frequently.

Cheers for the replies - @hashtagbargain: @skimmermilk, much appreciated!

  • Sucks, just booked a flight to Toronto and back last Sunday with them… well not every time you win…

  • Seems like after clicking "register now" it just takes me back to their landing page. How do I find out if I've registered for this offer?

    • You should receive email confirmation, I received it immediately.

  • Just registered, received confirmation
Booked a flight Syd-Bris status points displayed is the same, still 10 points each way
How do I know if it worked?

    • +1

You will know after you have flown the flight and the status credits post to your account.

      • Thanks

Hope I remember when I do fly then…

  • "Only one double Status Credits offer can be used per individual qualifying segment of your itinerary."

Just noticed this in the Terms and Conditions.

Does it mean if I travel from Adelaide to Los Angeles with a change of flight in Sydney (i.e. different QF flight numbers). Will I earn double status credit on BOTH the Adelaide to Sydney and Sydney to Los Angeles Flight Segments?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Is it hard to make an account if you don't already have one?

and how far do the Status credits get you? i.e. what is 100 Status credits equivalent to?

    • +1

Status credits get you no where apart from potentially higher frequent flyer status (ok status bonuses too). 700 for gold for example which gets you Qantas club entry.

You need points to travel which you also accrue when flying.

Based on your question, you probably won't benefit from this at all.

  • Does this work for jetstar asia flights bought with cash?

    EDIT: Nvm..

  • Are you still eligible for the double status credits if you paid for your travel through AMEX Travel? I've got my $400 travel credit to use so this would be perfect!

    Let me know savy OzBargainers

    • I think you can. Not 100% sure though.

  • I am so lucky having moved to New Zealand - currently, Beijing is on sale, for NZ$2888 (AU$2676) return in business class from Auckland, with the sale dates coinciding with the status credit offer.
800SC! That was a cheap and easy way to earn Gold for another year.

    • Do your flights fly via Australia? Will the clause: 'Only one double Status Credits offer can be used per individual qualifying segment of your itinerary' affect you in anyway? This was asked previously but no one has yet answered this potentially points defying possibility. Or maybe it means that if there is another offer around you can't claim it twice.

      • +1

AKL to PEK. That's has to be via Australia if flying on Qantas. They don't operate a direct flight between those two cities.

No one has answered that other question because it's confusing. I don't know quite what you're asking.

Are you asking if only 1 segment per booking counts for the double status credits? No. All qualifying segments will get double status credits.

      • Won't affect it at all. It just means you can't double up on status credit offers. They had a targeted 50% status credit offer a while back now.

  • Do you need to book and pay in full now to get this offer? Or can you do the book now pay later option in the checkout?

  • Does anyone know whether or not this offer of double status credits applies to flights booked using Qantas Business Direct? I'm planning to book a flight from MEL to Milan via London on business class which is cheaper if I were to book using Qantas Business Direct. I've been on hold for Qantas last night for more than a hour, and on hold now this morning, and still no luck on talking to an operator. Hope someone here knows the answer. Thank you in advance.
