    This place is a rort.

Go spend your money at one of the cheaper Japanese places in Town Hall. Great tasting food for cheap. I usually spend around $20 without sashimi.

Last time I spent $100 at Kobe JOnes. Drinks are a rip off too.

    • Agree. Went there the other night and I thought it was overpriced. Luckily we had an entertainment book voucher but even then it was still pricey. For comparable money full price, sokyo is a better option.

    • Well if your food was overpriced, and not worth what you're charging, you probably would have to offer significant discounts just to get people in the door.

I heard there was a really good family run omakase in Sydney which is about $70 a head, looking forward to booking that when I get the chance.

      • Which omakase is it? I'm always on the lookout for good jap food. Cheers

I think gmail92 is referring to Sashimi Shinshengumi. They are a fish store that also does takeaway sashimi. At night they have a seating of 10-12 people for omakase. Bookings open up once a month for the rest of the month and fill up within a few hours. If you are really keen on going, I would advise following their facebook to get an update on when the next bookings period will be open.

    • Totally agree. Even with the Groupon voucher the deal was considered a ripoff

      • Agree, I went with the groupon voucher and justified it as expensive ingredients coupled with a teppanyaki experience. It still felt like we got ripped off, mainly because the ingredients didn't taste as if it's worth it; the lobster tail seemed old and overcooked, the wagyu tasted barely on the 6+ range than 9+.

Ultimately, it is a degustation style meal and for 10 courses, it'll be similarly priced elsewhere. I would take advantage of this deal if you haven't had the teppanyaki experience.

I did I was still hungry at the end of it all

  • Terrible overpriced food. You always find them on Groupon etc. because their food can't sell on its own

  • I went there once a few years ago and did not particularly enjoy their food, even though I love Japanese food. No thanks.

  • The venue is great, i will give them that. Which is what they charge mostly for.

Food is meh, just like the others commented.

    Return factor is zero.

  • Ive been a few times on the groupons in melbourne, at those prices its average,

paying $160-$250 per person for those courses full priced, I saw the menu and cringed

the ingredients seem very good but using crab sticks for a dish is a big no no

  • Overpriced & food were not fresh!! Stay away from it!!

  • Been to their South Wharf restaurant at 50% off. There will be no business from me ever again.

  • AVOID!!!! Poor quality ingredients disguised with batter and sauces and nicely plated.
Even after 50% discount, it's still too expensive. If the quality was good it might have been acceptable, but it isn't good quality!

The service is just as poor, ie slow, indifferent to rude.
