  • Haha, saw the $588 and thought, it's ok, but than for $511, that's a bargain

  • Any other good friday the 13 discounts?

    • not sure. saw lots of other people walking out with boxes of electrical stuff. It's a minimum 13% across everything with some other items (don't know what) up to 40%. I have been waiting for a while for a good enough deal on a ps3 250GB play tv bundle (the sony ps3 blu ray remote was just a nice bonus).

  • headphones 30% off
    camera's 15
    computers i think was 15%
    assessories 15%

  • is the % off only on stocked items or can you order in?

    • sorry, can't help you there. perhaps give them a ring. good luck ~ friday 13th can be lucky for some.

  • Wow that's pretty good. Harvey Norman's website is down right now though =/ anyone know what time the Harvey Normans around Burwood area close?

Also, any chance of price matching this somewhere else?

I've done some quick/brief research on PlayTV (had no idea what it was before, only had heard the name) and it seems it basically turns the PS3 into a 250GB HDD recorder?
I'm assuming it would have fairly basic features? Schedule timer to record? recording of all channels (including HD too? no loss of quality?)? Can it record two channels at once? Can it act as a DVD recorder too?

Would anyone compare this to a HDD recorder? Does it do the job just as well or would a dedicated HDD/DVD recorder still trump this?

  • I got the PlayTV one or two months ago, Interface… anyone's opinion. It works just as a PVR/HDD does, you can view one channel and record another at the same time. Including HD. you can search the EPG by keyword etc.and schedulle it. I cant notice quality loss, It is Not a DVD recorder as the Bluray player in the PS3 is just a player. I hope this answers your question. If not ask again! Cheers. By the way I also own a Strong PVR.

    • +1

Thanks for the answers =) I take it the interface is quite average then? A bit of getting used to?

Would you say your strong PVR is superior to PlayTV in most if not all aspects? And just curious how much a PVR of your quality would retail for? I'm assuming you can record to DVD with your PVR too? Is DVD recording superior to HDD recording?

      Sorry for all the questions!

  • Hi again, no my Strong s the SRT5390 (not HD) model released about 5 years ago, I got the 120Gig version, three years old. NO firmware updates since I bought it therefore it's quite simple but good enough/stable enough. Snce its SD and Not HD you can s'thing similar for about $200.00. Unfortunately I can not export to DVD or USB as the unit does not have a DVD recorder or USB (I know one of it's letdowns).
NOt many people burn to DVD, too costly n the longterm and need to find more and more room to house the disks, so the HDD recording is better, it's there when you need it and units such as the Tivo allow for recording to an external Hard DIsk.
IF I was buying anything right now I would buy the Tivo, I like the features (it learns what you like and records it automatcally, it makes room by itself, by deleting fles you have not locked or something along those lines, and the EPG I hear is very good, there have been posts on this website with good deals, but saw some y'day at Clive peeters for 699.00 (320gig HDD), I am not sure whether this is good or not. BUT depending on who you talk to, they (C.P.) are willing to deal.

  • Went down to Harvey Norman, they said cant do the 13% off catalogue items. Have to take full rrp off the three products and then minus 13% of course it ended up more expensive than the $588. Bit peeved, the full page ad clearly said apple products excluded but should have really said also excludes catalogue items. So ring the individual store I guess if you are interested in this.

    • wow, i must have been lucky with the store I went to. they just took 13% off the whole bundle. I bought a hdmi cable too and they took 13% off that too. Took the cable back later though as EB games had a better deal on their hdmi cable (buy 2 items and get one free). Much cheaper too.

  • Can also confrm, I just rang around for a blender (Breville Ikon BBL550) and all they would offer was the 13% rounded down to 170.00 not quite a bargain to me. At least go halfway (from 13 to40) and offer 26.5% off! hate this up to 40% and up to60%. I once went into a store and asked them, so what DO YOU have for 60%off? The person didn't know. false advertising!

  • That's strange…it didn't exclude apple products or catalogue/sale items at the store I went to…guess it depends on the individual store then.

  • Isnt the bundle consist of PS3 250GB console, PlayTV, BluRay Remote and an extra controller for a total of $588?

I think for $588 that is a very good deal already.

Does the 13% off bundle without the extra controller?

    • the bundle was ps3 250GB console, Play TV and PS3 blu ray remote. no extra controller.
with the money I saved I paid $45 for Harvey Norman's extended warranty. So the console is now under warranty for 3 years (1 from Sony and 2 from Harvey Norman). I am mainly using the package for tv/dvd/recording purposes. The hdmi cable they tried to sell me was $99 marked down to $64. I opted for a 2.5m hdmi cable from Big W (red earth brand or something like that) which was labelled at $29 in the store but checked out at $19. Works great. EB's deal on buy 2 get 1 free (see previous reply) was a rip off as they had put the price up on each of the item anyway.

      • I have paid $588 for what I mentioned, including an extra controller. Tried to ask the guy to throw in some free games. But they tried to sell me the extended warranty for 3 years for $130. I didnt take it.

        haha
