Hey TA, any chance you could negotiate a good price on the Yogas? I need something with at least 8GB of RAM and my current Yoga just won't cut it. Thank you!

  • Disappointed, SSD can't be upgraded to 512GB!

    • External SSD?

    • +1

you've got a spare 2.5" bay to put another ssd in. (i hope)

      • Correct.
You could put a 4TB SSD in it if you really wanted to…

      • Could you add say a 1 or 2tb HDD in that bay ?

        • +1

          yep.

      • do you mean the bay where the dvd-rom is? replace the dvd-rom?

        • +1

No. You could put a 3rd drive there if you wanted to though.
This has an ODD bay, a 2.5" HD bay (vacant) and an NVMe SSD slot.

        • @Viper8:
i think ill replace my dvd-rom since i dont think i would use it.

      • Actually I want 512GB SSD + 1TB HD. I can add 1TB HD from check out but not 512GB SSD. I need to buy an additional 512GB SSD somewhere else and then sell the built-in 256GB SSD… too much work for me

  • what's the deal with 2400Mhz memory and the 7500U's top speed of 2133Mhz? Does the faster memory run at lower latency?

    • Most of the time, yes.
However it is impossible to say without knowing the make and model of the RAM.

TA: Can you confirm that the 7% CashRewards on Lenovo still works on this deal if we make changes to the hardware?

Specifically this is what I plan on doing:

Click via the following CashRewards link:
    Lenovo
    ThinkPad E570 i7 with 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD & 15.6" FHD a CRAZY $1010 ship..
    Plus 7.00% Cashback
Use this code at the store checkout

And then change RAM from this: 16GB DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM
    To this: 8GB(4+4) DDR4-2133MHz SoDIMM [ subtract $ 150.00 ]

    The check out price becomes:
    Web Price: $1,549.00
    After eCoupon:
    $860.00
    Savings: $689.00
    Use eCoupon:
    TA-E570-1010

And finally I then factor in 7% cashback on the above $860 to give a final price of $799.80???

    Thanks in advance!

    • +1

Yep, as long as you use the coupon in this deal, cashback will be fine irrespective of configuration :)

      • ordered it but forgot to use cashback :( .. called Lenovo asked if I could cancel the order and re do it via cashrewards. has been told 7% cashback won't apply with this coupon..

    • The specs I wanted. Might be too late to cancel order

    • +1

I've also updated the title to reflect the 8GB price. Thanks again :)

  • When looking at images of this laptop I was quite concerned about it's cooling (or lack thereof).
Not only is the combined area of the bottom intakes relatively small (compared with similarly spec'd laptops by ASUS and MSI), but there is no vents whatsoever for the HDD, RAM and WLAN (only for the SSD, CPU and GPU).
It seems my concerns were justified:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-E570-Core-i5-GT…
This review is for a slightly differently spec'd model, however the GPU is the same and the CPU has the same TPD, thus resulting in near-identical heat generation.

Overall its still a good laptop, and has ridiculously good performance for the cost (comparable laptops are ~50% dearer).
However if you plan on gaming, you'll want to invest in a laptop cooler to prevent severe throttling of both the CPU and GPU.

  • Is it possible to add in your own HDD?

    • +3

Yes. There is a spare 2.5" SATA bay for a HDD or a second SSD.

  • 8GB option checkout doesn't work. Browser (Chrome and IE) crashes during checkout

    • Yes, when you hit page back a few times it says that it has gone below the price floor.

      However…

Exit out of the page completely and then reload it via the link on this website.
Re-select the cheaper RAM and click add to cart.
It should now already have the discount applied down to $860.

I just did this now and it still works.

      • Problem is that cashrewards won't be tracked if link is selected from this website.

        • Can confirm the same strategy works from CR website.

  • TA,

    They've implemented a price floor.
The cheapest RAM configuration that works is:
    8GB DDR4-2133 SODIMM [ subtract $ 105.00 ]
for a final discounted price of $905.
Cheaper configurations return the warning "Price below price floor!"

You could argue that for $10 going the 12GB(4+8) DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM option represents the best value.

You may want to update your title?

    • Thanks. Done :)

      • Does anyone know the performance reduction of 16 to 12Gb? I couldn't imagine it would make that much difference in this configuration… I was going to get the last gen i7 dual core thinkpad but held off. Saving extra $$ for negligible difference in performance seems like the right idea. It can't run VR and doesn't have the grunt to edit 4k so don't see that much over 8-12gb will make a difference.

        • +1

          You've answered your own question.
8GB is fine for this set-up. For the extra $10 going to 12GB certainly won't hurt.
Paying another $95 to go from 12GB to 16GB is ridiculous, and you'll almost certainly never use it.

I play casual games on my home PC and use a wide range of specialist software and large data-sets at work on my work laptop. Throw in a few Chromes, antivirus, some Office apps, a bunch of Explorers, occasional bulk unzipping and a few large PDFs and I've still never exceeded 7GB of RAM on either. The highest it will ever plateau at is about 6GB. The majority of the time I sit at 4-5GB.

TA: heeeeey what are the chances of you wrangling a yoga deal? pretty much inline with the eBay tech sale on the 460 16GB that a few of us missed out on. Sounds like there will be a few people out there that will buy them. Or possibly the X1? Thanks if you can!

  • Is this likely to sell out before the deals listed expiry date? Will have to borrow moneys otherwise.

  • Excuse my ignorance but why do they calculate GST on the purchase considering we are ordering from China (presumably why it takes so long to arrive) . I configured mine to be around 900.

    • +1

Because it is a legitimate Australian-registered business that offers Australian based warranty. Same with Google when ordering nexus phones from them. You can think about it this way: a large portion of merchandise being sold in Australia is manufactured overseas and subsequently imported into the country, and you have to pay GST on them.

  • Mines come out at $965 with 16gb ram and free shipping, any guesses what I've missed out on?

EDIT, Did 8+8 instead of 1 16gb ram stick. Anyone have an opinion whether I might get better performance from two sticks or lesser battery life?

    • +1

You should get a couple percent more performance using 2x8GB vs 1x16GB as it will run on dual channel mode. However this will not be perceivable during regular use (only in memory benchmarking).
RAM power consumption is negligible relative to the screen, CPU and GPU usage. This will also not be perceivable.
The benefit of 1x16GB is that you can add a second stick later on. But given the specs of this laptop 8GB is enough, and 16GB is plenty, even in five years from now. 32GB would be a downright waste.
So at the end of the day the only meaningful difference is that you save $45.

      Hope that helps. =)

      • Cheers. Was always gonna get 16 or at least 12. I normally run a few VMs

  • Link no longer works, has this deal ended?

    • Working fine for me.

  • TA:

    They've changed the RAM options.
16GB(8+8) DDR4-2133MHz SODIMM is now the default RAM (previously this option would reduce the price by $45).
They've also removed all of the cheaper RAM options (no longer able to reduce the price to below $1010 down to $905).

  • Hi TA, any chance of an upcoming deal on some of the Yoga 2 in 1's?

  • -1

Lenovo E series are cheap laptop, don't get it. Get T series instead.

  • Thanks OP. Great deal, ordered one for my wife.

Have you all got your cashrewards? Did they do 7% on $1699 or 7% on $1010?

    • 7% on the price you paid excluding GST

      • Thanks, that's still a decent cash back.

  • Damm the ram price change and no backlit keyboard was a deal breaker for me but thanks tightarse for all your effort i appreciate anyway

  • Has anyone received shipping confirmation?

I paid for my order last week (Wednesday afternoon or Thurs morning) then they called me late on Friday afternoon (3:30pm) when I was at work and left a message to call back, didn't tell me what it was about and didn't send an email that there was anything wrong. I called back (1300 557 073) on Monday (when the call centre was next open) then they told me they needed to 'verify' my payment (I paid using my Visa card from one of the major banks) even though they processed it, took it from my bank account and sent me an order confirmation last week. They told me they do verification checks for "90%" of new customers.

I asked about an ETA (I was prepared and understand if it is out of stock it could be 3-4 weeks but I was hoping it would be sooner). They told me it was in stock and once payment is released (NB: not by my bank but from some internal Lenovo processing clearance gateway) it should take an ETA of 6-7 business days (I was hoping I would get it this Friday or early next week) but then the rep told me they hadn't released the payment yet even though they received my payment four-five days ago (they forwarded me to a payments team who they told would "release my payment")

I asked the payments team to contact logistics to try and get it expedited but they told me that the logistics number was closed because they are linked to factories which are in a different time zone (I called at 12:30pm then at 3:00pm AEST, standard business hours across Asia - I call BS) the payments team also told me there is no way to fast track deliveries (even though the guy I spoke to earlier said it is sometimes possible).

I was expecting around ten-twelve days (much longer than Dell Outlet which delivered in 72 hours when I bought a laptop a couple of years ago) and knew it was international but now it looks like it will take 14+ days (which for a laptop in stock is kind of slow and caused by an additional delay outside my control).

Don't think I'll be ordering again, even if the laptop is top knotch, too much stress.

(Tin hat time: I just got a new mobile number so the whole thing about having to verify my identity in regards to my payment did seem a bit sketch when combined with Lenovo's rep in regards to root kit and tracking users - they didn't do any POI asides verifying my mobile and address, with big corps employing voice biometrics to tag clients maybe they just wanted that).

  • My shipping confirmation has a tracking link but it just loads a page saying, "checking your browser's capabilities".

    Anyone gotten this to work?

    • What's your ETA? mine hasn't shipped so no confirmation but says it will arrive April 12

      • +1

        April 4th

        • Lol they said mine was 'in Stock' and being expedited when I called up on Monday. When did you pay for yours… Tuesday/Wednesday last week?

Have you bought from Lenovo before? I wonder if it is standard practice for them to ring and confirm the order after payment…

        • @juzz0: probs around midday on thursday 23rd? I did 8+8 ram though, before they were making it compulsory (and luckily before they jacked up the price on the 8+8 config).

        • @juzz0: I actually got mommy to order it for me, I didn't have quite enough to put it through myself and big ticket stuff,I like to get delivered to her work cause there's always someone there to accept delivery etc.

Maybe they pushed it through faster cause was a work address? "Business" customers take priority. She paid with PayPal though, who knows. Sorry dude? The 4th still feels like an eternity away though.

        • +1

@juzz0: don't think she's gotten anything from Lenovo before.

  • I'm kicking myself for missing out on this. Would have jumped in a heartbeat. Any chance for a new promo? …

    • Lenovo deals are Tuesdays and Thursdays if I recall.

      • Got one from the deal I posted several days ago. Not as good as this but good enough as it ticks all the boxes for me.
