it would be more nutritious to feed your dog a bowl of sand than this stuff

    Wtf brand is that???!!!

  • I feel sorry for dogs that have to eat this crap. If people can't afford $5kg to feed them a good raw diet then they shouldn't own a dog.

Do some research into this dry food rubbish. It's an eye opener

    • Doesn't even cost $5 a KG for raw, more like 3.

      • Can you recommend a good raw diet. I buy kibble but have been thinking about switching to full raw and natural diet for a while and am not sure where to start

Feeding raw is good if done properly, but if done incorrectly you may as well be feeding them this $4 'deal'. By all means go for it, but it is a hell of alot of work to do it properly. I personally feed ivory coat and supplement with plenty of bones such as turkey and lamb necks, mostly because i just dont have the time or resources (fridge/freezer space) to feed raw at the moment.

TL;DR, everyones raw diet is going to be different based on what you can get your hands on. Do a heap of research and design your own if you want to go this route.

        • These guys but depends where you live..

        • I buy whole chicken or chicken pieces from Coles, costs about $3.5-4 a KG (but you can get cheaper on sale).

I supplement that with raw meaty bones and cow heart from my butcher, about $2-3 a KG.

Also give him eggs and fruit.

As Cheese stated, it's a lot of work (especially with chicken as it goes off quickly) but I think it's worth it.

My dog hardly sheds, has a beautiful shiny coat, great teeth and is a picture of health.

leave it to soak in stock over night and it's ok as a meat pie filler.

  • There's also 12 x 100g canned cat food for $2.

  • I don't own a puppy however $4 even to me seems like it's too good pass up!

Let us know what it tastes like.

This is the equivalent of feeding your dog dirt and expecting them to be healthy. Even at a cost of free this wouldn't be a deal.

    • I think dirt would be better.

    • Come on, the equivalent of feeding your dog dirt? That is exaggeration to the absurd.

It is made in australia and still has to meet some standard. Almost certainly just a rebadged version of one of the other manufacturers.

It is still a deal, even if you don't like the average dog dry food. For $4 it would make at least a good backup if you have run out of your regular food or to mix in a handfull with whatever else you are giving them.

        What standard is that?

These cheap kibble foods use grain as a filler, have low protein and poor quality protein.

No wonder dogs have all sorts of allergies, dental and skin issues.

I feel sorry for your dog if you have one.

And I don't "run out" of my regular dog food.

Couldnt of said it any better than this. Sure your dog will survive on this (most likely with a reduced life span), but it sure as hell wont be healthy.

          Seriously this is just ridiculous.

I feel sorry for your dog if you have one.

And you feel you can make that judgement from 1 post on ozbargain?

Cangrats, we are not all as perfect as you.

Did i say feed your dog this exclusively?
Can you back up the assertion they will have a reduced life or health giving them the occasional handful of regular "non premium" dry dog food?

@Duff5000: some of these people seem to have a serious superiority complex… If it was as terrible as you make out they would ban it. Your crying like its aspestos flakes flavored with rat poisen and anthrax.

Which would still be a deal at 50c a kilo funny enough.

        • -2

@Slippery Fish: When you pay $15 a kg for pet food (the brand he mentions above) there has be psychological element. If you are paying 30x as much for somehting then you are going to be super defensive about it.

Edit: Yeah guy we get it, you are pet food elitists and are going to downvote anything that disagrees with your opinion. The cognitive dissonance is strong here!

        • +2

@Duff5000: Not elitist. Just done my own research and care about my pets. Feel free to make up your own minds. Also where the hell are you getting $15/kg from? My last bag cost $8.40/kg, almost half of your ridiculous figure. Sure might seem like a lot, but it means i need to feed less than half of other foods for the same nutritional value. You get what you pay for. Also im not the one downvoting you. Im all for discussion, even if people disagree with me.

And you feel you can make that judgement from 1 post on ozbargain?

If you feed your dog such a poor quality food and think it's ok, then yes I can rightly make that judgement.

If you must know our staffy is almost 14 years old and still going strong.

And I could smoke until I'm 90 without issue, doesn't mean it's healthy.

When you pay $15 a kg for pet food

Where are you getting $15 a KG from?

A good quality kibble (32% quality protein vs 7% poor quality) costs at most about $10-12 a KG, but you can't work it on total cost alone.

They will eat much less of a high quality food than a low quality one, so the initial price is deceptive and it's not that expensive when worked out daily.

Grain-based kibble causes allergies and other issues, dogs are carnivores and not designed to eat grain.
