Amazing price on IKEA's iconic BILLY bookshelves (white only).

According to the email I received, valid only at Perth while stocks last (95 in stock when I last checked). Not sure if it will show up on the product page.

We just bought 3 on the weekend, so will be trying to get a refund on those…

          Definitely secure them! but with that said, the deaths were caused all caused by chests of drawers (mostly Malm) that were not secured to the wall, not billy. As far as i'm aware they have always had warnings to secure them or included the bracket, people chose to ignore that unfortunately :( i guess people just don't expect such a thing to happen.

        Though it scanned $59 at the register, but they honoured $29 as that's what the website says. Apparently it's stuff-up and they're madly trying to correct it. Not very madly though, still $29 on the website after closing. Good luck tomorrow folks, there's 20 left in Adelaide.

      Seriously? That's a pretty standard statement in any sort of furniture these days to legally cover their ass. But yes with a any sort of tallish shelf or bookcase (esp barebones IKEA design) it's kinda common sense and obvious physics it could use some support - either wall fastener (I've never used any) or just load up the bottom to get better CoG.

      Every bookcase needs to be fixed to a wall. You have to assume a child may climb onto the upper levels and hang off it. That would topple any bookcase unless it's very wide (many metres).

      IKEA WA/SA is owned by a different company than IKEA in the eastern states. Since no one seems to have any advertising for this from the eastern states, it not being available in Sydney would be a good assumption.

    These are awful things unless they have improved in the past 15 years. It was assemble once (and it'll hold together if you're lucky) and dispose of. I don't mind most Ikea stuff when it's cheap but Oz prices are a ripoff as usual. $29 should be the standard price for something like this, and totally don't let kids climb on these… ouch.

    Friends, my advice is to buy better bokcases. Billy bookcases are something i regret buying. several of them, all age quickly and shelves sag with what would be considered a standard row of books (if not lighter).
    Either buy the LAIVA (oddly good quality for the price, look stylish if you dont put the back panel on) or buy second hand with at least a ply shelve. or ideally get new but if youre shopping ikea its usually for budget

      The trick to avoid sag is get the 40cm wide units. I too hated the sag issue with my old 80cm wide ones. Though walking through Ikea the other day the shelves on the 80cm actually now 'look' stronger - might give it another go.

      We've got 4 of these already. Only one shelf is showing any sign of sag, and we've loaded plenty of abnormally heavy books on that one.

      Having said that, I know that they did refresh this somewhat in the last few years, so the new one may be slightly different again.

    Perth also has the birch veneer for $29 and I believe the black-brown one but they wont have stocks of that until 9am tomorrow when they will also restock the white ones apparently.

    I was at Ikea Perth last night. Saw a guy bought i think 10 of these billy bookcases in one shot. At the end of it there are not that much left on the shelf. Maybe they will replenish stocks so maybe best to call to check first

    We bought 6 of the Birch Veneer ($109 normal price) Billy's last night at Perth. That's all they had colour wise of the $29 ones. Also used the monthly voucher and got an extra $25 off.

    Went today to buy black/brown billy bookcase at full price of $109 each and use my voucher to bring down price.
    To my surprise they where only $29 each the had big poster i asked if that was right as heard online it was price error and it was white.
    They said they have no white left but be back upto full price next week which i think will be tomorrow.
    Im so glad i went today it never said on its site it was $29.
    They said for some reason they cant change the ptice online.
    So grabbed 6 if i had a bigger car and thry was not so heavy would have grabbed more as i was planning on buying a few each month or so until i had what i needed.
    So was a great boost to be only $29 each thats $650 of billy's for $149 which included my $25 voucher over $150 spend.
    I was after the smaller one also which was on a deal but there was none left.
    But cant complain which what i had.
    There was loads of people buying them up and loads left in stock when i was there.

    Im not sure when store closes but im so glad i made the trip today as got 6 of these almost for the price of one.
