Telstra ZTE Cruise $9 (Inc. $10 Credit) @ BP

240

Seen at Abbotsford Rd, Mayne / Albion, QLD store this evening, the bollard branding suggests it may be more than just a single store, but YMMV.

The previous BP offer for this phone was late last year, though it could be purchased recently as February this year, for $1 more at HN.

This offer does not appear on the company website, or their published list of specials.

  • Wow…why do they even bother charging for the handset? At that price they'll be making way more off of you simply keeping the prepaid account active.

Still, it'd be okay to buy and chuck into the glovebox for emergencies, or give to a child who's prone to losing/breaking phones. Just don't forget to top up the account from time-to-time.

  • I presume it's locked to Telstra. Can you unlock the phone?

    • Unlocking would cost more than phone lol.

Re-phrase: can you DIY unlock this phone?
oh screw it… will just use it as an MP3 player while running. Pain in the ass to run with a Nexus 6P just for the music.

      • +2

Only costs a couple of bucks to unlock through ebay.

I got one for my son from Aus Post Locked to Telstra and got it unlocked via an Ebay seller for ~$3 .
Survived a full cycle in the washing machine so I'm giving it a big thumbs up .

      • Which seller? I tried one seller on ebay but they refunded my money saying the imei wasnt in the database

          $2.07 Aus .
It didn't work the first time I tried it but I found a thread on Whirlpool forums that had a method that worked .
'unlock code'. using the 'Settings -> Security -> Network Unlock' option.

        • @troyww:

I tried that seller but he refunded my money saying he couldnt find my imei in the database :(

good timing, need to send my nexus 6p for repair.

    • What do you do about the different SIM size?

      • I have some plastic adapters from previous SIM cards deals. You can order the free Kogan SIM card and use its adapter.

  • is it AU Wide?

    • See first line of the OP…

      • Yes I saw that, but was asking if its AU wide.

I have seen this in VIC too.

While some people seem to be lucky and the eBay unlockers work, I tried 4 and none could help. As I'd already bought the phone I just paid the 7 euro for dc-unlocker credits and now works fine with a Aldi.

  • UNLOCKING THE PHONE

I've bought this phone in Sep 2015 from Office Works (good spare phone for traveling and came with free 3 months Netflix).
I got it unlocked FOR FREE using this website: http://www.wintechmobiles.com/tools/zte-unlock-code-calculatā€¦ Not sure if it still works but worth giving it a shot. Share your experience when you try it.

Best use case for this phone is emergency. As such, Telstra is who's sim you WANT in it, for their ridiculous coverage.

Gonna grab one for when I go up north to Doomadgee and such.

  • What can I use Telstra credit for?

    • Telstra shares.

    • If it's the same as it used to be:

      Get Started Credit
Can be used on calls/texts to standard Australian numbers and calls/diversions to MessageBankĀ®, all within Australia. Excludes data, calls/texts to premium numbers (eg 19xx numbers), international numbers, calls to most 12xx numbers and use while overseas. $10 credit expires after 14 days.

      via

      • So can I use it for Google Play?

        • No.

        • What a waste, ok thank!

      • That's for recharge credit. This device will come with Get Started credit.

  • BP in Oakleigh VIC still has them but scans for $39!

Anyone know why the offer does not appear on the company website or published list of specials?
