Thanks. I got a Pensioners card in Dec (I am my husbands carer - brain cancer) and didn't even think about ringing up. They are sending a $178 cheque for my license :) appreciate it!

    • Well done.

      Glad I helped!

Why is it NOT in forum? This is just information. When you fill out forms, then form ask you for pensioner number etc, and you get free licence etc even if you didn't know that.

    Move to forum.

    • Does it say on the form that you will get a discount? Not many people know you do.

I mean it has saved some money for some. Forums arent good exposure.

This deal is targeted and only the ones who know will have access to it otherwise they be paying normal price

Pensioners receive information about State discounts with their annual Pension card renewal. Governments encourage people to take up discount offers.

When receiving Pension etc, check what other benefits you can receive (discounted rates, phone account, utilities, licenses, fees, etc). Keep up to date with offers. Update rego & other forms when your circumstances change.

Always provide any government card number on forms that may give a discount. And simply ask.

(In the pre-internet days, my Father provided a concession card that gave lesser discount on his Qld rego - he overpaid around $60/yr for 17 years. The form still has option for 3 different concession cards - provide all you have so will get best deal. He simply filled out the first one. He never asked about different discount with different cards, nor checked annually, just kept renewing.
Searched the discount for different concession cards at the online rego site & discovered overpayments. Changed concession card details for next renewal. Lodged a request to recover overpayments through MP's office. Recovered many years of overpayments, still battling a technicality to recover some older overpayments.)

Any OzBargainers who don't know what discounts they can get with their benefit cards… really aren't trying. It's a simple search.

If you read above, at least one person was helped by this deal post… even if technically not a deal, its one of those Im happy someone was willing to bend a rule for it.

        • @Tuba:
This PSA "deal" only covers a small part of discounts offered to Pensioners.

Being informed - about all available offers as I recommended can save far more. That includes reading what is sent to Pensioners every year about discounts, including when they first receive the benefit.

All the information in this deal is freely available by reading the Concessions and discounts section of the department's fees, or just asking.

I added another freebie - free NSW National Parks Pass for their car & occupants. There are so many more. I don't even live in NSW & know about a few. That's why a forum or wiki (similar to birthday wiki covering national & state benefits) is better over time, than a 1 time deal that is forgotten about or missed by others who could benefit.

But all this is better covered by a simple search of pensioner sites - that compile this & much more information to help pensioners.

And where do PSA deals end - reminding people to put in tax returns to get money back, free books to read at libraries, or maybe to eat, drink, breath, wash their hands & wipe their bottom… All worthwhile advice. Someone would respond that had helped them & the deal could get lots of upvotes😯

OzBargainers are known to go to a fair effort to get something free, so it would seem much more beneficial to check what Government departments can do for them to save far more money.

It just means people taking the responsibility to check what benefits they get with their pension. Better than waiting for a random PSA deal to sneak through while the mods ignore the reports…

          God get a life. Seriously.

        • @Infidel:
"There are so many more. I don't even live in NSW & know about a few."

could you post all the other available freebies for NSW?

          thanks

  • So if an OAP is buying a new car, will this apply?

    • Yes for the concession on registration (provided they do not have another vehicle registered in their name)
No on the drivers licence front ;-)

      • Deal Description: "Also free drivers license fees."

        • Lodra's Question: "So if an OAP is buying a new car, will this apply?"

        • @Cheap Charlie
Don't know why you mentioned drivers licence in the first place. Confusing, as it had possibly nothing to do with buying a new car.

You could have added so many other discounts on fees in this deal that don't apply (maybe the free Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (CBA) log book and guide - goes lovely with a new car)😉

If they are also getting or renewing their driver's licence - it's also free. Older people have to renew much more frequently.

      • Thank you @CheapCharlie :)

  • +2

wow you people are salty. If it doesn't apply to you just move onto the next deal.

    • At least it will apply to them soon…. lol unlike some unobtainabnle ones

  • Lol 'targeted'. This is a top deal, y'all.

  • Free "Replacement learner driver log book". Must be a lot of pensioners needed this.

  • Can i transfer my car to my mum who has a Pensioner Concession Card but no any Driver Licence??

    • Watch out for potential stamp duty costs in the transfer of ownership.

My Father is a Pensioner without a drivers licence (expired) - he owns & pays discounted rego on his car. As his carer I drive & comprehensively insure it in my name (can't insure it in his name as he is not the driver & is much cheaper for me to insure as am lower risk). (In Qld, but should be same in NSW.)

      • potential stamp duty costs

That is true, but it's like a one-off payment, i won't worry too much unless it's too high. (which i need to find out as well)

They should do this across Australia.

Senior citizens these days are real dangerous on the roads.

Lessons and tests should keep incompetent senior drivers off the road, then again I wonder how 90% of drivers got their license.
