  • Hmmm pearls are something that you really need to see in person to inspect the flaws/lustre etc. before putting any monetary value to it.

  • just about to neg it but see this link. It really is for $99.99

Yeah, I googled it too! And that's what made me decide to get it, since it really does retail at $100. It's going into my 'random presents to one day give to people' cupboard.

      • Haha I have one of those cupboards as well!!!

I love giving my partners pearl necklaces

    • +1

      :)

    • +1

partners? how many do you have?

    • +1

Pearls do have the ability to enhance the beauty and not necessarily of the neck.

    • +2

Don't forget about giving them the matching bracelet and earings too.

    • +1

I'm guessing you work in a financial services firm or law firm…

Do i win for getting the innuendo?

    • +8

Lol i don't think many people got the joke

      • +2

Which, in a way, implies that there are still a lot of decent people around.

  • I would be inclined to spend a bit more buying South Sea or Tahitian Pearls. However, this is a good price, considering the pearls are real.

Just bought a set, for roughly $26 inc post will make a great get out of the doghouse present…… (when required)!

Just bought 2 sets, 1 for mum and 1 for future MIL. :)

    • +1

You're giving your mum a pearl necklace?

      I think that's a terrible idea.

      • +6

What's wrong with giving mum a pearl necklace?

        • +2

          lol

As opposed to giving the future mother in law one?

          • @stumo: once again, the comments have outshone the deal. thank you ozbargain, my stomach hurts from laughing :)

        • It really depends what kind of pearl necklace it is…

      • Really appreciate your feelings, but I think, it is a personal perception, whom to gift.

  • Looks good deal. Got one

Got one too. GF loves pearl jewellery.

    • +2

      nice wording ;)

  • Hm, how do these differ from those that cost thousands of dollars?

    • +1

      grown commercially ? fresh water ones ? they're not black/pink/etc perls ?
anyway would you pay $5000 for something like that ?
great deal. I got one for my wife.

      COTD says:
"Freshwater pearls are not as expensive as saltwater pearls because they are generally irregular in shape, so because the shape standards are not so harsh, freshwater pearls are much more common and easier to find."

Someone better tell Marge to stock up on these!

great deal, got one for my wife thanks!!

  • Got one… Hopefully they're decent.

  • I'm not sure I would pay $99 for freshwater pearls, but $20 is a good price. I'm not sure what COTD means by they "are more common" because I'm pretty sure all freshwater pearls on the market now are cultured (from the land where everything is made.. China).

Freshwater pearls nowadays are not like those in the past, they are of much better quality, are almost all nacre (the lustre coating you see on pearls), and the colour can even be controlled. The more expensive pearls can sometimes be hard to find or even hard to match to become a set (like the black Tahitian pearls). But because of the better quality of freshwater, even high end jewelers now sometimes mix Tahitian pearls with freshwater (albeit probably slightly higher grade ones than the ones on COTD!).

  • $99 sounds fairly cheap for freshwater pearls in this quantity, but I'm willing to take a $20 risk to see if they're decent quality.

  • So good quality anyone?

My girlfriend swallowed the pearl necklace that I gave her. What do I do??

    • Tell her "there's more where that came from :D"
