Hi Guys,

I haven't used this mower before but there are plenty of reviews out there and I'm sure there are a few OzBargainers who can share their experience owning one of these. Sure there might be a few people who couldn't ever mow a lawn with a plastic base or without 4 stroke running through their veins but it's the future people :)

Besides getting a high % off code off Ebay, I'm not sure you will find a bricks and motor store with an online shop being much cheaper for the EGO 56V Range.

Whatever you do though.. don't look at how much they were going for when Masters were closing as you may shed a tear that you missed out.

Cheers

    • I got the LM2101E + 38cm line trimmer instead. Can't justify to get a self propelled battery mower at that price. Ego are expensive kits.

  • I got the line trimmer from masters closing down sale, and the thing is excellent. So much easier to use than my petrol 2 stroke line trimmer

  • The EGO mower barely gets through my grass on a Saturday morning, turns itself off due to stress about 30-40 times per full mow, which is about every 2min or so over an hour, sometimes over some thick grass and especially if it's wet, it can turn itself off repeatedly which gets VERY frustrating. The plastic guard is so low to the ground and gets caught regularly on the grass, and because they built some amount of flex into the handle, you end up getting caught, which causes you to stop pushing the handle forwards and instead it pushes up and then you end up lifting the whole mower off the ground while the front digs even further into the ground. The copious amounts of plastic guards also prevent you from getting anywhere near close to fences unless you mow side on, but then if you mow side on you scratch up the side of the handle which sticks out about as far as the actual body.

On the upside, no more petrol/oil/sparkplugs to deal with and it's quieter. Those were the reasons I bought it, and it doesn't fail at that part.

Basically whoever designed this has never designed a mower before.

You can't buy replacement parts currently, I lost the starter key and you can't buy them in Australia apparently so I had to hotwire it so it has no safety switch.

4/10 would not buy again. Just get a Honda.

    • Is this with the 49cm model or brushless 52cm model?

    • Did you ring EGO? I did and they posted out to me whatever parts I wanted (for a fee). I didn't ask about the safety key but I am sure it is available.

  • I got my mower from the Masters closing down sales. I think its great. I let my lawn grow a little long over summer so it didn't stress too much in the heat but when I cut it for the first time last week my mower had no issues with length - though I did take it slower. It is true the style of the "nose" with the front axle means you can't ram directly into things to cut close, and the "Mud guard" is a little long so reversing is not so great - I could easily shorten it if I wished but for my purposes circling is the easier pattern (triangularish yard) so it isn't an issue. I use a whipper sniper to do my garden edges and clothes line. I did tie a loop from the key the the handle when I got it - though you never seem to need actually remove the key it just sits loose when not in use.

  • I love my full kit of blower mower and snipper.

    Blower, just awesome "blowing"

Snipper, powerful and I'm getting away with using 3mm (yellow) braided line with the guard off so it's a little bit longer. It might struggle VERY rarely when the grass is thick while edging but I'm very happy with it.

Mower is a little frustrating with THE power cut off in thick or wet grass but the trick around that is:
1- instead of walking your mower over a full line of uncut grass make it a little smaller like 3/4 or half of the mower width if it's really thick. That way there isn't as much load on the mower

2-set the mower higher and work down your cutting height (I've never had to do that)

Though the front garden us annoying and could've been designed much better.

I have very thick Kikuyu grass with a lot of thatch which makes the lawn like a mattress, this makes the mower wheels sink in which then makes the front guard catch and make it a little harder to push. It is a stupid design but I guess you can't have everything

  • Apparently the standard (older) 20-inch model has a 600W motor.

There are two newer models, both 21-inch, one self-propelled.

    The 21-inch model has 700W

The 21-inch self-propelled model has 1000W motor… It also comes with 7.5Ah battery which has a higher current discharge capacity so copes better with thick/tall grass.

I have the 20-inch and it does need nursing a bit on thick/tall grass. I am eyeing the 21-inch SP. Split the cost with my FIL…
