If you bought a Canon M10 or M3 from ozbargain a while back and are looking to upgrade your lens from the 15 - 45mm standard lens that comes with the camera this seems like the perfect lens to enhance the camera. I have noticed the entry lens i'm using is lacking in a few areas and I guarantee you this lens boosts the cameras performance and will elevate your photography.

I've been playing around with the codes and GSHIPPING gets you $8 off while Autumn only gave me $5. Although the AUTUMN code from what I understand is 1 to 10% off so it may yield a bigger discount depending on how lucky you are.

Also noticed that Eglobal is based in Hong Kong and offers grey-imported goods but does provide a 24 month warranty on lenses according to their T/C's.

Shipping is $19.00

    What you want is this.

    http://www.digidirect.com.au/accessories/lens_adapters/canon…

    and this

    http://www.digidirect.com.au/camera_lenses/slr_lenses/canon_…

That is the best lens you can get to help improve your photography.

    • I would rather get a sigma or tamron 17-50 f2. 8. Prime lenses will be too restrictive if it's your only lens

      • Unfortunately, there are issues with tamron lenses with the M3(and most likely the M10 as well), I found that out after getting the M3, oh well.

    • anyone can say the focusing speed with an Canon EF-M Lens Adapter? people say it's slower.
I do have quite a few good lens for my EF-S camera, and considering using my Canon M10 or M3 from ozbargain deals than selling them.

For what kind of photography? For what photographic interests? I can tell you that's not a good combo for an airshow or shooting sports at a distance.

No it's not the best lens to improve your photography. A lens that doesn't allow you to understand differences in focal length is not the right thing for most beginners. Once you've understood differences in angle of view, depth of field at different focal lengths then you can work out if you want to stick to just one focal length.

I never suggested the 50mm lens as your one and only lens I was presuming that you already had the kit zoom and you want to expand your photographic abilities, i think a 50mm lens is perfect for that.

        • It certainly has it's place. I'd get a long lens starting between 55 and 70 and ending at 200 or 300 first though. So I consider the deal poster's lens more suited if it's of decent quality and works well.

    • Why would anyone want a 50mm prime for photographing wildlife or sports? I cant think of a worse suggestion.

Where did he say it was for sports or wildlife?

Im saying a 50mm lens is a great lens to learn with as it challenges you to actually move your feet to get the right composition not just zoom in.

Also having f1.8 aperture will also make you understand depth of field and how important it is to correctly focus your lens.

If someone is after a telephoto lens, they arent going to be after a 50mm fixed lens. Thats like someone buying a car and then someone suggesting buying a jet ski because it will help improve your maneuvering skills.

          @Orpheus:

LOL no shit, i said a 50mm lens is good to learn photography with, never said not to get a telephoto lens.

@zacsg1: You wrote "What you want is this." Which implies an alternative suggested lens. If that wasnt your intention, then what does your comment have to do with this deal?

        • -1

          @Orpheus:

boosts the cameras performance and will elevate your photography.

Saying thats a good lens to learn photography with.

@zacsg1: If you're interested in buying a new car, you should really know that driving lessons are great for teaching you how to drive and good for elevating your driving skills.

Move with your feet is not the same as zooming in unless you're photographing a flat piece of paper.

Background compression changes with focal length but does not change with moving around. Depth of field also decreases with focal length much more so than just with changing distances on a fixed lens.

Not to forget also that it's often impossible to move to the equivalent position for your subject using your feet. If the subject is large you may have to move kilometers away vs zooming. You may find yourself hard up against a wall or having to get into a boa tor a helicopter (if that's even practical) trying to "zoom with your feet". If the subject is an animal it may not let you get close enough - you may have to automate the camera and/or construct a hide.

The phrase "zoom with your feet" needs to die. There's no such thing.

Using a fixed focal length you don't learn any of this and your photographic style will be stifled before you've had a chance to explore it.

If you don't understand or appreciate that I'm not sure you should be giving any photographic advice whatsoever.

  • Can I trust eglobal?

    • I've never had an issue. They've been around a while.

  • eGlobal do not honour warranty. Period. I have not bought a grey import from any Hong Kong electronics retailer since my experience with a warranty claim with eGlobal. They lie and cheat and never have any intention of honouring warranty claims and there are no effective consumer rights organisations in Hong Kong. Do a little research and you will see that if you buy from them you need to hope that you do not have a warranty issue because you may as well bin the item and save yourself the cost of return freight/postage.

  • Still waiting for $701 owed by eglobal. 36 days so far.

    • hrmm i assume you paid by paypal
