GAP at David Jones - Double Whammy (50% + 20% Discount Applied in Cart)

603

While browsing through the sale online, I noticed 50% discount off RRP in cart discount for GAP. This is combined with the 20% off RRP in cart. 70% if adding numbers straight up. In more realistic mathematical scenario, the aggregated numbers should suggest 60% total discount (20% off 50% discounted price equates to 40% net price - See example below).

[ $100 - ( $100 X 50% ) ] - [ 20% X ( $100 X 50% ) ] = $40

Who am I to judge their e-commerce team though! Double Whammy!

$10 delivery fees or free in store pick up

Note: David Jones shopping bag takes forever to load so patience is a virtue

    No measurements, limited sizes :(

    • +1

Yeah, what I like is not in my size :(

    • add it to your basket - it becomes $15.

      • +10

$15 for a tshirt!? What am I? Made of money?

        • +2

You are right to be outraged, how ridiculous of me. Here is a t shirt for $7.34

        • @zailiner: Thanks! I can now add Phillip Lim to my list of "Ridiculously rich (for no good reason) people that I have never heard of".

        • @John Kimble: how do you make a list of people that you've never heard of? It'd have to be blank, no?

        • +2

@anawth: I would have to create a list first, because I don't have a list of "people that I have never heard of"; only a list of "Ridiculously rich (for no good reason) people that I have never heard of". :D

Perhaps I could change the list name to "Ridiculously rich (for no good reason) people that I have never heard of before now"? Is that what you mean?

        • +1

          @WillisAU: not bad

Quality is similar to the Kmart v necks

Both are made in south East Asian countries - GAP just charges premium because of brand name

  • +5

    Doesn't work for all items.

    • Beware DJ scumbag return policy. I bought some kids shoes but, when I arrived they had made a mistake and the item had sold out. Even though I got a notice saying ready for pick up. Waste of a drive but whatever. Then I was told they only refund Paypal with an in store gift card. Could not believe it, not only did I not get the item, I was being forced to buy a gift card? There was no *note about this on the purchase portal. I refused to accept and the woman was nice enough to refund the card used directly. For a company as big as DJs they can afford to have a staff member that logs into their paypal account and clicks refund.

  • How's the GAP quality, shirts let's say, is it any good?

    • +5

      stitching is subpar
      lot of GAPs

  • It's coming up as 20% off + 20% off discount for me.

  • +1

says save 50% on a "range" of GAP
ie not all items are 50%… the ones I tried mostly all show only 20% (plus additional 20%)

  • +6

picked half a dozen things… worst checkout experience ever… cant do online delivery for these items, then all items are not availabel for pickup at any store…
    had to give up…..

    • +4

same, its super frustrating and ridiculous

  • +4

Some items cannot be delivered, even though it shows home delivery available, that's why checkout experience is so terrible.

  • +1

    Found many items 20% - 20%- 50%. Reduced by about 68%.

  • Bought some jeans a few years back, stitching came off at the buttons. Returned it and that's the end of that. Gap still good?

    • +1

Gap kids is pretty good imho

  • +1

    Cant order anything.

Click and collect isnt in stock.
Delivery gives me the following error: Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product.

    • I had the same problem. It was a PITA. Happens because one or more items in your cart are now sold out (while you were shopping). I removed one thing at a time until I deduced which one was causing the problem using browser back and forward to check if the sale would proceed, then added items back one at a time until I could finalise the purchase.

  • +3

Thanks OP, got some ripper GAP stuff for the kids with a $50 DJs gift card I'd almost forgotten about. Saved me over $75 and used cash rewards too, for an extra 6% off.

  • +1

ok, the checkout process starting working for me, even with the same products that were stuffing it up before. saved a heap of money, even considering gap's usually expensive prices.

    • hey man how did u get it working?

      • +2

I did as above, and removed everything from my shopping cart then added one item and tried to check out to see if it worked. When it did, I added another item and checked again. Again it worked. Then repeated this process until I had all 10 items ready to go. Once you're at the payment screen I think you're good to go.

        • thanks will try :)

        • +1

yup one at a time was painfully slow but it worked. thx

  • +2

"Add to cart" does nothing :)

    • Doesn't work for me either when using google chrome (which is strange), try another browser :)

      • I tried both Chrome and Mozilla :) Nothing.

        • Opera worked for me

  • +1

yea im done, pre sure its broken

  • +6

Attempted to order multiple items, after repeating the process, 1 out of 11 items is "available" even though when you browse the website it specifically lists it as available for delivery. Terrible service and misleading range.

    • +5

This, yeah really frustrating, ended up giving up

    • +1

I called the service line, and they said the error is working as intended, just means that items are sold out while in your cart… But I'd expect a functioning website to actually note on the product page that it's not available.

      • It can be legitimate when you have low stock of lots of items, and they don't reserve it for you when you put it in your basket. By the time you go to purchase it someone else has bought it, so no longer available.

Sucks for you, but better for the retailer as they sell it to the person who put up the cash first.

        • No, my issue is that even after checking 30 minutes later, the item was still listed as "in stock" on the website.

        • +1

@Kramo: Yep, the user experience is totally crap. It should tell you which items in your cart are no longer available and ask if you want to proceed to checkout with any items that are still available.

Considering this is David Jones, it's really not acceptable and reflects poorly on their brand. Not only that, but they're clearly losing sales.

        • +1

@Kramo: okay - then that is just crap website design.

  • +2

OZB hug of death? Or terrible website build…ya know what? bugger that…would rather go without. Not worth my time

    • +1

id say terrible website, I was on this within 1 hr of post and had problems. Yea not worth, spent like 30 mins straight then gave up. eh

  • +1

I wish I could remove my up vote because this is website is garbage.

    • +2

If you click the "vote" tab under the title there's a little red circle next to your vote to remove it

  • Only DJ can sell GAP at a premium. It is a bottom-of-the-barrel brand in the USA!

    • I thought that was Old Navy.

May as well mention you can buy Mossimo at Target in the US

  • what a waste of time.

reports Out of stock after entering address for delivery

V neck t shirts are for douchebags

    • +1

Deep 'V's maybe, but otherwise they are ideal for people with shorter faces (they elongate the face).

  • +1

Painful painful checkout. Searched and found stuff for my kids but by the end of it had to leave it coz no stock for pick up or delivery.
Giving you a + for the deal OP, but damn DJs!

    • +1

This is the state of amazons competition in Australia. I can't wait for amazon to bring in some heat to the retail sector.

  • Got some cheap infant stuff without much issue

  • fully expecting my order to be cancelled or partially fulfilled at best

  • Just wondering, if you buy something online from DJ's and pay $10 for delivery. If you then return this item, do you get the full amount back including the $10 you paid for delivery? Can't seem to find any info on it.

    • +1

By the time you find the information, the stock will go out. They r selling out fast.

    • +2

      https://www.davidjones.com.au/Return-policy

David Jones will not reimburse postage costs for returned items unless the item is faulty.

      • ooo thankyou! I swear I read that page twice over! even tried ctl+f for "shipping" and "delivery" but not 'postage' lol

        • +1

Makes sense to me though. I don't know of anyone that refunds the initial postage (that's something that has already happened)? Not that I do much online shopping. Do you know if any retailers that do this?

I know some pay for you to ship it back to them at least?

  • getting 'not available for online delivery error' on most items in my cart and not letting me checkout. anyone else having the same thing?

  • +1

can not even check out….what a waste of time…………..Sorry, this product cannot currently be delivered to your nominated delivery location. For assistance please call 1800 354 663.

    3 dresses and 1 shirt for 118.34 =D

    • Order dispatched

      • That's good news that they are honouring the sale price and sending items.

  • The website really gives Myer's some good competition for worst design ever.
That said I got $470 worth of clothing for $151 with a bit of patience

  • Can anyone explain women's gap sizing when it comes to numbers? 00… 0.. ?! I'm a 8-10 AUS.. is that 4-6 in GAP dresses?

    • Eh… I just ordered anyway. Free returns in store, there's not even a 30 day limit for returns so should be quite easy to return when I need to. My tips: Don't order if not at least 50% off (big sale times GAP does 50% off everything) and double check your bag item does not have a 'Out of Stock' above the number in the bag, BEFORE you go to enter in details. Had zero problems ordering once I removed all 'out of stock' items.

    • yes. My gap dress I bought in Japan fits me like a target dress if you follow the Aus size - 4 = American size

  • Wasted 2 hrs, no stock or error

  • Patience is an understatement :(

  • Managed to check out relatively easy last night. Bought 6 polos. Thanks OP! Free delivery if you have DJs AmEx.

  • +1

Free delivery if you add stuff to make total over $100 then remove them.

    • Wow, what a terrible website… Good for us though I suppose.

  • +1

Interestingly, I found that the (stupid) David Jones website was having a whole bunch of errors, and I was unable to add anything to my cart.

I traced this back to a particular script being blocked from a CDN while I was using the PIA VPN. Turning it off fixed it for me.

tl;dr - if the website isn't working, and you're using a VPN - disable the VPN.

  • It's still working
