      You have misinterpreted that article.
The CEO doesn't see the need for smart watches in general. In no way did he "talk shit" about huawei watches.

      • -8

that's your opinion…my interpretation is he is trashing his own products

        • +13

My interpretation of your interpretation is that you are a muppet

        • +6

No. You were just easily persuaded to agree with the opinion of the author of the article.
This is all the CEO of Huawei has said in the artcle:
"I am always confused as to what smartwatches are for when we have smartphones,"
"when the smartwatch team in Huawei presents their ideas to me in great excitement, I keep reminding them to consider whether there are tangible needs [for these products] in the market."

Based on those facts, the CEO did not "talk shit" about Huawei watches. He never said huawei smart watches are bad products as you have tried to convey in your original comment

"last in line" when they handed out brains

        • yeah he was cautious about uptake ….. sometimes we think everybody shares our passion for technology ….. not always the case ….. the inconvenience of daily having to charge a watch is a turn off….. quartz runs for a year without. charge and ecodrive well i've had one going for 12 years and no battery change just sunlight charges it.

    • Agree, not a fan of the silver band and don't really want to pay extra for the metal band anyway.

      • Can we change to any standard band at any watch shop?

        • Yes, standard watch band you can change it at any watch shop.

    • Sorry, unfortunately there's not much stock left on the W1 leather currently.

      • Don't fancy lowering the price to clear out the last few? :P
I'd snap it up if it could get below the $280 mark.

      Care to explain why?

        • +1

Then why even started ranting in the first place?

        • -1

          @ryangoal:

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion buds

      • I can probably see why the Huawei is so cheap, I'm gonna assume it's successor is about to be released soon. I mean, it has been 2 yrs and from this 1 article it says "release in april". But, why wouldn't you buy from these guys again?

        • +1

Cheap? I feel that price is still expensive for Smart watch

      • +8

        Care to explain why?

He doesn't like bargains and prefers his money to go to people like Gerry Harvey.

For those wondering about the apple watch, it is Series 0 - First Generation. Not S1 or S2.

  • +2

I'm really happy with my Huawei watch.
Only real disappointment is that the OHR sensor can only be activated manually.
It really needs to be able to take readings all day long to have any real user benefit.

Will be interesting to see how the watch goes once AW2 finally gets rolled out.

    • +1

There are many apps that so the auto reading job for you, and they connect to your fit account. Or worked every time for me. And you can schedule time.

      • Well I'll be… thanks for that.

    • Hi Dan

A couple of questions on W1 if you don't mind?

I owned one, loved its look, would like to buy another, but it interfered with my car kit and iPhone and Huawei never replied to my questions - basically 0 support. Have you had a problem with BT car kit?

It was pretty useless with an iPhone as you could not install apps but AW2 should fix that. I thought AW2 was out for the W1?

      Thanks

      • +1

I recall calls going to the watch instead of my car at the start but I fixed it in the settings of the watch. Cant remember how though sorry but I'll have a look in the settings and see if I can work it out.
As much as I like my Huawei I'd probably buy an Apple watch if I had an iPhone.
Maybe the AW2 will add benifit to using it with an iPhone?

        • Thanks

Yeah I bought an Apple Watch on the $279 jbhifi deal last year. Didn't really like the look and prefer a watch that has an always on display so you can actually see the time always. Sold on EBay for profit in the end.

    • heart rate in many devices needs to be turned on …… that heart rate sensor uses a fair bit of power…. i liken it to turning off wireless in a phone if you have a decent 4G plan …. why waste power on the wirelsss …. same with heart rate monitor …. i turn it on or off as needed usually on during sport…… the rest of the day it's boring ……..heart rate in bathroom while doing number 1 number 2, heart rate during boring meeting vs exciting meeting …… hear rate while eating chinese food vs thai food ……

yes, i do own a smart watch but once the novelty wore off i just use during sport now.

      • +1

Wifi, or wireless as you call it is very efficient these days on mobiles. I think you would struggle to see much of a difference in terms of battery life with it left on.

Also, a bit off topic…… but what is with the …. everywhere, it's seemingly … .. random and very .. distracting ………

I've seen other people doing it too and I'm just curious where you picked it up, and why you do it?

      • The way the Huawei works is you need to open the HR app and press the check HR icon. It then takes your heartrate once and turns off. You can get the same result using the camera HR apps on smartphones.
Using the app hopper suggested has allowed me to set it to take a read every 30 mins so I'll try that and see how it goes.
My Garmin 235 can go 36 hrs with OHR on broadcast so it's constantly reading.
Just did this while since k in bed for a few days.
This function is good to get a better resting HR.
All in all though it's just geeky stuff I like to look at sometimes and helps me be motivated to excersise.

Great. Just purchased the Gear S3 Classic earlier on Friday at their eBay store for $433 (using 5% discount code) then I see this post. Feeling a little disappointed :(

    • Disappointed at your low OzBargain willpower for not being able to hold off for a better deal?

  • How about adding the fitbits to this deal? =]

  • No discount for the 42mm Apple watches?!

  • The Gear S3 Frontier is no longer discounted

    • Hi Jezgadi,
Discount is still active, you need to enter in coupon code 'EASTER40' before checkout for the $40 off.

      • my bad, thanks for clarifying

  • Any deal for LG Style op?

  • About to buy the Classic S3. No option for Paypal + Store Pickup?

EDIT: All good. Just saw the option for Paypal and store pickup. Wasn't loading on phone.

  • Really keen on Apple Watch 1 or 2 gen…..any luck? Not a fan of gen 0….

    • if going for S1, better spend money elsewhere, S1 only better than S0 in terms of dual core processor, which probably wont matter much unless you want to play COD on your watch. S0 stainless steel for this price is pretty good, unless you like the cheap aluminum finish.

      • My concern for gen 0 is that it might be sluggish and Apple is going to drop suppoet for this fairly soon….

I guess I will wait for gen2 to be discounted then….

        • +1

by that time you'll be worrying about s3 being superior.

    • apple watch would be interesting as they seem to support ios updates for the products longer than most companies so would be kept up to date less new features such as faster cpu water proofing etc.

the downside is to use the watch you need an iphone …… ipad or ipod touch won't do it seems…..

  • $300 for the black stainless W1 and bought.

  • +2

Really great customer experience. Bought gear s3 frontier. Thanks OP!

  • Can you add more phones on the list please.

  • Trying to buy this
    https://www.mobileciti.com.au/huawei-w1-watch-stainless-stee…

    But keep getting
Coupon code "EASTER40" is not valid.

Same price on another site but I'd rather give you guys my business.

      Hi Gearup,

Coupon should work on it now, thanks for the support

      • Thanks!
        GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

  • I tried to place an order but had issues going through the 3rd party payment mediator. Eventually I got through and received confirmation of order and invoice on my email. But my account on the Mobileciti website is showing no orders. Is that right?

    • Hi Davesday,

That's weird, but as long as you get confirmation email and invoice everything should be fine. Can you shoot me a pm with your order number so I can confirm? Thanks

      • Any chance extending this deal? :(

  • Is there any more deals happening soon?

Missed this but was looking to buy a gear s3 frontier.

    • Same still tempted if deal extends
