      • Work in the CBD :( might get family to grab me some at this price though!

  • Be sure to set a reminder! Can't miss this steal.

  • How's Penrite compared to Nulon…both aussie made, but been using Nulon more, since it's on sale more. The oil seem to last longer with Nulon too.

    • Last longer? Less oil burnt?

      • Yea, at least in my experience. Nulon tends not to turn "black" as quick

        • which means int isn't doing its job as well.

        • @stumo: Why is that?

        • +1

          @Droid11:
The "blackness" isn't caused by the oil, its caused by deposits. If the oil isn't collecting the deposits (and hence not turning black), the deposits will be collecting in the engine causing sludge.

        • @stumo: Hmm ok , I thought it's just breakdown of engine oil? Where would the blackness comes from?

        • @Droid11:
          Mostly from blow-by.

        • -1

          @stumo: blow-by?

        • @stumo:

          What he said!

        • @Droid11: Air and fuel leaking from the combustion chamber into the crankcase.

  • BMW Long-life rating LL-01 Approved?

    • I'm pretty sure yes, google it and confirm it for me.

  • I have a 6L & 1L (7 litres total) of Nulon 5w30 (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Nulon-Full-Syntheti…).

Apparently I need this oil (5w40, LL01 compatible) instead.

Happy to sell at what I bought for which was like $61 total ($50+$11). In Sydney.

Un-opened, still have receipt from Supercheap Auto from last week.

    • Easier just to return to SCA no?

      • I considered it- but thought they'd just give me store credit which I cant see myself using anytime soon.

Do they normally give a store credit, or can they do a refund?

        • FYI returning to SCA was a breeze. Got my refund in cash no dramas

        • @ycon:

Ah good to hear. Sorry I didn't get back to you but I wouldn't have been much help anyway as I don't think I've ever made any returns to SCA.

          Glad it worked out!

  • Such a great price, unfortunately the recommended viscosity for my 2001 Lancer is 10w-40w :(

    • +4

This won't hurt your Lancer, it could actually be better for it.

The difference between 10w40 and 5w40 is this oil is viscosity (thickness) on cold starts. With winter coming this will lubricate your engine more immediately than 10w40 will. Some like running 10w40 in summer and 5w40 in winter, though in Australia our temps don't vary drastically so even that probably doesn't matter here.

      • Legend, thanks mate 👍

      • +1

Yep you can usually always go lower on the W number, and it will give you better startup protection and better economy and protection during warmup. When hot the 2 oils are identical 40 weight. Its that second number you should not go lower on. And you should not go higher on the W number either.

So 0W-40 or 5W-40 is always a better choice than 10W-40 for general use. But for example don't go 15W-40 or 10w-30 if you are specced for 10W-40.

        • Well said.

Just a heads up! I just went to sunshine victoria repco 08:10 this morning there was no stock, so don't bother going to this store.

    • +1

Same with West Ryde NSW. Guy said he had 6 bottles and sold out in 10mins.

    • Just called up my local and they've got 100 in stock. They should've stocked up.

    • I expected the same, but couldn't get there at opening and thought I would miss out. Tried my luck at 10:30 and against expectations the shelves were fully stocked.

Might try and grab two more bottles tomorrow ready for the next oil change.

  • Is this oil good for Toyota Aurion 3.5L V6 2007?

    • very good

  • Plenty of stock at Oxenford at 9am this morning…..15 on the shelf and about half a pallet stacked in the middle of the store.

  • Went to SuperCheapAuto to Price Match this Morning, bought 4 bottles. No hassles, plenty of Stock at Glen Waverley store. The Rep commented on how good the oil was when leaving.

Perfect timing too, Toyota Yaris was due for oil change :)

  • hey guys, does anyone know if there is an expiry date on this product?

Also, how long can I keep the oil for once the bottle has been opened?

My car only needs 4.5L and my service interval is yearly.
Got 4 of this, but that will mean it will serve me for just over 5 years (5 yearly service interval).
    Can it last that long?

    • +1

you are fine if use the opened one first before every next service. 5 years is nothing and there is no expiry date or best before date for engine oil.

    • Or if you plan on holding onto your car for a while, (and assuming you get your car serviced at a garage) change the oil yourself 6 to 9 months after your service. It would mean you could get you car serviced by a garage every 18 odd months and be confident your engine would be in better shape than oil changes at 12 month intervals. You might as well buy 6 bottles to last the 5 years now that I've convinced you.

  • Half shelf left at 8:10am Smithfield NSW.

  • Grabbed one from Repco Camperdown at about 9am this morning, were plenty left. Still market at $84.95, though scanned at $29.95 :)

    • Still about 15 left of as 1:30pm.

  • Thanks OP. Bought two. Not that I really needed more spare oil but it's such a great price I couldn't resist :)

Edit: plenty of stock at the Burleigh Repco this morning around 10

  • plenty of stock at 8.30am this morning at Mascot NSW

  • Awesome, stocked up!

  • Warners Bay had a whole display at 9:30AM. I was lining up behind another guy getting some. I would say easily 50+ when I left. I only got 1 and will probably go back this afternoon to get another if they have any left.

  • Sent my mum to get two while I was working..

Was going to go down later and get a third, but they let mum take three!

Devonport, Tasmania repco has a lot of stock apparently.

    Thanks OP!

It is vag 502.00/505.00 approved too which is a nice addition for myself.

  • Thanks OP bought one this morning after reading your post. Just did a oil change last week with left overs of this product and a Litre or two of castrol edge 5w30 & 0w40 lol. Next oil change will be this and some more left overs of 5w30. I'm less concerned about the exact viscosity grades now and more about changing it often.

    • I've heard no issues with mixing different viscosity and brand oil as long as they are within acceptable range in the owner's manual. Is that right?

      • What LGW said about frequency of changes over exact viscosity is probably correct for most cars.

Personally I'm fussy with mine and like a pure oil in there but it's just an old habit more than anything. I use my leftovers as an in-between flush instead, ie: dump my 4L, insert 2L of leftovers, idle or drive 10km, dump the 2L, add new 4L. Totally overkill and wasteful but it does get more junk out which the original dump left behind (my car is too old to use a proper flush product). In my mind this keeps things slightly cleaner over the long haul, in reality who knows. We both use our left over oils, just in different ways.

        • I'm sure there's a couple of ozbargainers here in disbelief how you could waste that good oil %! Lol I do give mine a bit of a flush but usually just pour a bit of clean oil in after I've dropped the old oil and still got the sump bolt and oil filter off. Not sure how effective it is. Doesn't it scare you to drive even a few kms with your car at half oil capacity? Now that I think of it, the majority of the (circulating) oil would still be in the sump even whilst driving wouldn't it.

        • @LGW: lol I just leave the oil drip dry almost completely from the engine. 1 hour is all I need. Couldn't be bother to make sure 100% fresh oil in the engine, 99% is good enough for me.

        • @LGW:

You could be right, there's no science in my madness just something I've done for a long time now without harm. I do try to keep the revs under 3000rpm tho, its a nanny drive around the local streets and back. The engine in mine (whilst nothing special) is considered fairly bullet proof for mistreatment so if this is the worst thing I do to it I don't feel too bad. A flatmate years ago did a similar thing but just idled his car for 30 minutes instead. If you had to pick 1 of the 2 which would you think is better? And yes I know, I don't want to lose my OzBargain membership card for wasting both oil AND petrol! :)

      • I'm no expert but I've never had an issue nor have I heard of anyone (maybe read a couple horror stories on the net) having any issues. Obviously not ideal but I figure a clean oil is going to be far better than any dirty oil no matter how good it is. In a perfect world where I wasn't an ozbargainer I'd not mix oils and change often. I usually change oils between services at the garage (mainly to keep my warranty). But since I'm a cheap ass. I only buy my oil when there's a bargain like this, I do stick to the better ones though.

        • I'm the same, though I tend to buy at least 2 lots of oil each time a bargain like this comes. The problem is my car only sees 6000-7000km a year so I'm buying oil faster than I can use it lol. I usually change oil in a car every 6 months but with my car its annually because there's nothing wrong with the oil at 3500km, especially the synthetic stuff.

        • [@Click_It](/comments nt/4623552/redir):
I tried to do exactly what you do and use the same oil by buying two bottles every time there was a discount but soon gave up as my car needs over 8 litres of oil, I quickly found myself with a mini stock pile of all different oils! Then trying to coordinate getting 8L of leftovers of the same oil did my head in lol. Although I am tempted to buy a second bottle tomorrow if there's any left. Haha that would stuff things right up.

I have been tempted to do an engine flush with some elcheapo dino oil and refilling with good stuff but still deciding whether the residual cheap oil left in the engine almost defeats the purpose of doing a flush in the first place.

        • +1

          @LGW:

Well I just bought a 2nd bottle now, my car actually uses just 3.4L + 0.3 filter so 2 bottles gets 3 oil changes :)

Anyway for anyone in the area, Warners Bay NSW (Near Newcastle) still has HEAPS, probably 30+ bottles on a giant display.

They keep asking you "would you like to buy anything else?" seeing as they're probably not making a cent from this bargain. I priced some other stuff to keep them happy and actually found another bargain I need - new brake discs are 40% off until 30/04. Too busy right now to post a deal but might later.

        • @Click_It: The good ol' buying something else so you don't feel bad. Such a first world problem.

        • +1

          @TheOneWhoKnocks:

I actually do need new brake discs for a brake service coming up but didn't expect their price to actually be decent. $78 for 2 discs, I probably couldn't get my current ones machined for much less than that.

        • @Click_It: Yeah good deal.

  • Best oil deal ever seen, thanks OP!

  • Grabbed two thanks OP, next service's sorted.

  • I couldn't imagine a large majority of Ozbargainers with cars worth enough money to use such a high quality expensive oil on :)

    • I only bought it to increase the value of my car by $75

You're right though, but as a neighbour said today, "you can pay more for crappy oil". I normally spend around $19 on less premium "ozbargain oils" so +$10 was within striking distance for me.

  • Plenty stock in Rockdale NSW this morning. Just get two.

  • Would it be OK for a 2002 Kia Pregio diesel?

    • I've never owned a diesel so I'm not an expert on the matter but I would think you're best to buy diesel oils rather than this one. Diesel oils have more cleaning agents in them to keep things clean.

Someone else who knows more might chime in though.

    • I thinki Diesel's need diesel oil

      • Got a mate to buy it and it says on the container it's suitable for light diesel as well as petrol engines.

        • If you have a dpf don't use it

        • What is a dpf?

        • @davelarz:
          diesel particulate filter

  • Picked up four bottles at Modbury in S.A still had a few left

  • bought 3 bottles in total from 2 shops today. My next 3 yrs' supply of oil sorted.

    • Well done! I'll get 18-24 months from my 2 bottles.

I have a few more other-branded bottles left after that. So I'm making a pact today to myself, no more buying oil before 2021! :)

    • You only drive 10,000km a year or service it once a year only? 3 bottles might get me through 2 year perhaps but I have 2 cars in my family to service.

      • Around 8k km per year and will only service once a year with long life filter.

  • Thanks guys - picked up two of these Friday morning - I got to the shop at 8:05 (5mins after it opened) and there were 10 people infront of me! I grabbed the last two off the shelf lol. They reckoned they'd be sold out in 2hrs at the current rate.

Dont forget to recycle your old oil guys, its free for most places if you drop it off

    http://recyclingnearyou.com.au/motor-oil/sydneynsw

    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/services/in-store/oil-recyc…

for those in western sydney or close to a race track most of them have a place where you can empty your old oil into a larger drum
