Very competitive price for this phone with all the latest specs. I had been looking at the 200-250 dollar phones but those have considerable setbacks (no b28, etc), so I think this phone is really hitting the sweet spot for value/price.

    • It's also got better 4G support than the 4x.

I almost went for the Note 4x. But when I selected the black colour and 8-day delivery it was pushing $250aud. For another $50, you get:
      USB-C
      Camera much better
      B28 and other additional bands
      Audio/speaker quality
Already on Android 7, more likely to keep getting updates
Ebay store 12mth warranty better than Aliexpress.
The Note 4x has a monster 4100mAh battery compared to this 2650, but in practice, who knows.

      • from what i remember the black was the same price 199, and no need for 8 day shipping that should not effect the price of the unit only because u want to receive it early, so its still 100 difference, tbh i have an s6 and i use that as my main camera phone. and im sure the s6 camera is better than the zenfone 3

if you want a backup/second phone, i think the xiaomi is the better choice, since I will be using the s6 as the main camera and not the backup/second phone, so no need for it to have a killer camera. plus i just think the xiaomi deff has better battery which is the most important thing for a backup/second phone.

        • better battery which is the most important thing for a backup/second phone

Isn't that more important for the primary phone?

        • @clse945111: yes you are right, but whats logical about replacing an s6 with any of the above mentioned phones, so in my case it would serve as a backup/second phone

  • +1

This really doesn't impress me against my s4. I might have to wait for something more appealing to come up or wait until it dies lol.

    • Well it's definitely better than an S4. But I'm also upgrading from an S4 and I agree, it's a solid unit and I'm only moving on because I have to.

      • +1

Me too, just looking for something new as my s4 is giving up on me, and pretty much every other phone out there either misses some feature (headphone jack, removable battery, sd card support, worse camera) or doesn't look appealing or has stupid display size…

      • Oh really? Whats your reason for upgrading?

Mine would only be to get better battery life and some nicer features like quicker charging times, my s4 takes 6 hrs to charge from 15-100% and it loses it within half a day with moderate use.

I was thinking of a xiaomi redmi note 4x, since I only just figured out the s4 doesn't support band 28 and I live in the country towns and never really get 4g dropouts unless im really far out which is almost never, This phone too might be a good upgrade.

        • The S4 was a loaned/backup phone. I bought a redmi note 3 the other month, it was miles faster than my S4, before the screen died.

I don't know the science of 4g bands. Maybe it's an area-dependant sensitivity. A lot of people get by without it anyway.

        • Just get a spare battery for your S4 as it's removable, problem solved.

  • Be very careful buying from these guys. All good until something goes wrong. Returned my broken LG G4 to their Sydney office in late January and months later they are claiming they never received it even after an Australia Post inquiry told me it was placed in their P.O Box. Many (slow) messages back and forwards and they are they are still trying to cover up that they lost it. Got my G4 as well as Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe ZS570KL from them so hoping I don't ever need the zenfone fixed.

  • does this have playstore?

    • Yes

  • Still waiting for a phone with these specs at 6.0" and with a REAL battery (4500mAh+)

  • How is this phone compare to motorola z play?

  • +1

is this a good upgrade over the redmi note 2, mainly looking to get something with better battery performance.

    or should i just get a note3/4?

  • i dont understand why this got so many upvotes since the normal price is 315, so your only getting 15 dollars off

    • +1

I don't control the upvotes but I think 315 is also a good price, lower than the competition. The 15 is just icing.

    • +1
      • You're.

Not sure on this price, it's not that crazy, if it was $249, I could understand.

As someone who owned a Zenfone 2, don't touch this.

Forever behind on updates, always lies about updates. Flimsy hardware thats prone to failure of the sim slots, headphone jacks, etc. Lots of native ads by the pre-loaded crapware, etc.

    www.reddit.com/r/zenfone2 has plenty of history

    • +1

This isn't the Zenfone 2 though. It's been greatly improved on every aspect since the 2. The 3 has also been out for quite some time now and there's no large scale major issues with it.
It's also received the Nougat update as well and so far been a really solid device for most people who own it.

    • i also have a zenfone 2 and am having the same problem with the sim slot failing
in my case it's due to the phone body being thin at the sides it is bending in my pocket if i straighten it out the sim works again

i was tossing up between getting this or waiting for the nokia 6 i think it's aluminium body would solve my problem

    • +1

I also had a Zenfone 2 and while it took a lot longer than they said it would for the Marshmallow update, I would give them credit for staying pretty well up to date with the monthly security patches.
I now have a Moto G4 plus and I am very happy to have a phone which just works and runs stock android.

  • Uses the same glass as my Moto G… Which has survived 2 1mtre drops in a $2 plastic bumper. My Moto g worked remarkably well. Zen phone 2 seem pretty buggy.

    Considering an upgrade.

  • Wouldn't touch this due to the crappy SoC, uses A53's and single channel memory; Very low performance.

  • Is it much different to what is available at eGlobal since both is grey imports?
    https://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/asus-zenfone-3-ze52…

    • Same thing. Looks like it's the same Taiwan edition too AFAIK

  • How's this compared to a ZUK Z2/Z2 PLUS?

    • Just got my ZUK Z2 the other day from DX (white) for $230 delivered. It took a bloody month almost but it got here at least. Came with the second most recent indian rom (very clean). There are guides online to upgrade it to the newest indian rom release. Has dramas with auto screen brightness going too low, but that's not a real concern. Camera isn't as good as my previous Asus Zenfone 2 Laser, but it does most things reasonably well. Overall package is powerful, feels premium, good battery life. Came with a matte screen protector.

Covers all the bands I need with Vodafone, hasn't downgraded itself to 3G yet as I live in a metro area (I can live with a 3G signal outside of metro). I have to say for what I paid, delivered, I'm very pleased with it. YMMV.

  • Bought one cheers

  • got one myself thx

Ordered on thursday arvo, arrived on monday morning. This thing is seriously beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous phone.

The system is blazing fast (relative to my experience) but there's quite a lot of bloatware in the ZenUI launcher. Heaps of customisation options though.

    • Hi guys. My experience so far is that I'm getting pretty bad battery life (contrary to the many reviews out there), and I suspect that it's because of the android 7.0 update. I would advise others to stick on 6.0 for a while and see how it works. Cheers.

      • +1

Ignore above, after a factory reset the battery life is very good.

        • +1

So far so good battery life for mine didn't have to do a factory reset but will see. Good phone so far for $299

Ordered Monday delivered on Thursday. AWESOME !!!

  • I wonder why this has Gorilla Glass 3 when the Zenfone 2 had Gorilla glass 4. I hate steps back. Still I am temped to buy because it is overall good compared to the competition.

  • Ordered on Sunday, they tried to deliver on The Thur, picked up from local drop point today. Very happy with the logistics

First impression: shocked with the proprietary charge dock, wasn't expecting that! Shows how little I researched the phone.

Apart from that I'm happy so far (15 min in)

    • +2

ok, charge doc is usb Type-c.
Welcome to year 201x grover, enjoy the ride…

      • haha yeah, USB-C, the future is coming, but it doesn't work with existing cords

        • Exactly! I bought a handful of adaptors that arrived today and they work ok so should save me from getting caught out (put one in my wallet)

  • Bought one today. Was so difficult to choose between the Black and Moonlight White colour. Damn. Ordered the Black one. Was after small screen size phone. Anyways after so much research there is no other phone out there that beats this phone for this price. I know people say Xiaomi - but I have used Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the build quality was just a disaster. Real Bad and breakable plastic chassis. Aux connector was not of the correct size. There is a pretty good comparision video of S7 vs Zenfone 3 on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeqCl-Dme4E
