ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures C/C - Free Return Virgin Domestic Flights for 2 (First Year Only) - $500 Spend & $225 Fee

80

Seems to be a targeted deal - well claims its only for selected Velocity customers.
$225 annual fee, and $500 spend within first 3 months gets you-
Return Virgin domestic flight for 2 (only in first year), return flight for 1 ongoing as long as you have the card.
Free travel insurance
Fee free purchases overseas.
1.5 reward points on eligible purchases (up to $2000 a month), 0.5 points for other purchases.

Seems they've got rid of the Velocity points bonus, and thrown in another flight. Does this make it any better than the previous offer?

No idea why its in gaming, must have fat finger. Please move it to financial.

    • Fixed thanks
      :)

  • I've got this card and it's great (to be fair I have a home loan with ANZ and don't pay the annual fee).

It also has no international transaction fees so a good replacement for 28 Degrees that has the added bonus of reward points.

    • How did you get the fee waived? I have a home loan with ANZ too but paying the annual fee! :(

    • Does it offer comparable 0% foreign exchange fees, transaction/commissions etc as 28 degrees?

Similar mastercard spot rate? If so that would be perfect - 28 degrees works as great as the Citibank card (for cash withdrawls) but the lack of reward points bugs me, given you spend a huge bulk of money on holidays. several thousands each year would be well spent as rewards points, even if it is only a$20,40 gift card.

Assuming this ANZ card gives you cash back or gift card redemptions like say amex? Could you confirm? Or does it have to link to velocity/FF programs?

      • Heracles - I just asked them to include it as part of my home loan package. I'm on Breakfree so a credit card is included in my mortgage fee.

Saber - yeah it's 0% foreign exchange fees as far as I'm aware - I barely use my 28 Degrees card anymore. You can use the points for gift cards if you like or convert them into Velocity points. Velocity point redemption is usually 2 points for 1 velocity point but occasionally they run 15% bonuses on the velocity redemption if you hold off converting.

        • Do you pay the rewards card fee of $55 annually? $170 Annual Account Fee (waived under breakfree package) and a $55 Rewards Program Services Fee is payable on top i think

        • @kimba88: I don't pay any fee with the card including any reward fee.

        • @dmac80: oh wow, lucky. I've just signed up last night (well I've swapped my card from platinum to travel rewards) so I can use it overseas. But I will probably use a commonwealth bank travel money card for cash outs.. Because withdrawing from the credit card charges interest instantly.

The previous deal with 60k velocity points is way better.

    • I'm waiting on some kind of points offer before applying for the card.

I got this card when the 60k Velocity Points deal was on. Happy with it so far (using my free flight and lounge passes this weekend!) but a little disappointed they're getting rid of the AMEX companion card and not matching the points on the Visa. Nonetheless, still one of the better offers on the market IMO.

Yep, I'll be moving to a new card when the 1st year anniversary rolls around, there's no incentive now it's so much harder to earn Velocity points, given they cap the earn at 3000 ANZ points (1500 Velocity) per month, and the flights are only for the first year.

      • Ditto

      • the flights are for each year aren't they? one flight and one set of lounge passes per year

        • The flights for 2 are only first year, then it's 1 flight per year, but unlike other Amex offers the booking name has to be that of the card holder, so you can't sell it off to cover the annual fee.

        • @Sir Casm:

Well technically you can book under your name and then change it to another person at a later stage but that would be messy.

      • Any idea what card you'll swap to?

    • Can you elaborate please on what this AMEX companion card is?

      • Previously with the ANZ Rewards Travel card you got a Visa and an Amex card. With ANZ ditching Amex you won't get an Amex card.

        • Great - i have an AMEX (probably ditching) but have been trying to get a rewards card on mastercard or visa… bankwest won't give me one despite the free inclusion as part of my hom eloan package. Hopefully I can get this ANZ one then which has both the insurance and a cream bonus of flights.

The only issue is the rewards points seems a lot lower… 1 for 1.5? AMEX was usually higher. not sure how the redemption for points system is - if decent in comparison to earnings rate.

Does this give straight out rewards points for gift cards/other redemptions, or only links to say a frequent flyer like velocity etc?

        • @SaberX: Yes its just points which you can use to redeem gift cards or transfer to your velocity account as velocity points. With AMEX it is 2pts per $1. After July it will be Visa 1.5pts per $1. Currently with Visa they are 1 for $1.

  • Is this the ANZ travel card competitor to the now phasing out amex cards and associated free flight (now $200 credit) ?

$225 annual fee is obviously abit more than the $150 i pay for my amex platinum edge already.. would be keen to know if the flight redemption is as easy as amex (my flights were always available, so it wasn't really an one seat per day available issue - they were pretty generous).

Are the reward points to rewards similar to amex i.e. $7 per 1,000 points cashback redemption ?otherwise in terms of redeeming points for say $50 of a generic groceries or fuel gift cards?

I just want to mainly get reward points for a non-amex card (i.e. mastercard) as the 28 degrees gets me nothing. Tried to get a m/card on bankwest as part of my home loan package (free) but the stinges wouldn't lend me - such a strange CC serviceability criteria. I am by far capable of servicing it but they obviously are turning up the requirements quite excessively for me to fail servicing (no matter what i try). Wonering if this ANZ one would be easy enough to get approved?

    • Flight redemption was a pretty easy process for me. Rang the 1300 number and told consultant the destination and dates and they were able to book it straight away and even allocate a seat.

Bear in mind the travel dates need to be at least 60 days in advance from when you make the booking.

      • Oh, that sucks - although not common. WIth amex it's always been book whenever available (up to 8 or 9 months in advance I think you could go maximum). They never had a minimum booking period. e.g. if you decide to go travelling next month, the ANZ card won't let you book as it's < 60 days?

I got a different offer from Velocity, this card comes with an international flight to selected destinations:

    http://campaign.anz.com/credit-cards/rewards-travel-adventur…

    • seems like a better offer. although destinations are limited to the pacific region. Still great $225 for a return trip to fiji.

Brisbane > Nadi (Fiji), Denpasar (Bali), Port Vila (Vanuatu), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), Honiara (Soloman Islands), Apia (Samoa).

Sydney > Nadi (Fiji), Denpasar (Bali), Apia (Samoa), Nuku' Alofa (Tonga), Rarotonga (Cook Islands)

      Melbourne > Nadi (Fiji)

Port Headland (WA) > Denpasar (Bali)

      • Nothing for Perth (WA) as usual :(

I received this offer this morning.
Only return flight for 1, but it does come with 60K bonus points.
    http://campaign.anz.com/credit-cards/rewards-travel-adventur…

    • Seems like it's targeted.

    • mrs got one too, not me. wonder which is better. if your not wanting to fly then I guess 60k bonus points - does it expire (velocity points)?

Does this mean this card also links reward points to velocity and not general reward points for redemption for cash or gift cards?

      • the 60,000 will go straight into Velocity Points… however spend on the ANZ Travel Rewards card will earn ANZ rewards points which you will then need to transfer across to velocity manually or you can setup auto redemption.

2 ANZ rewards points = 1 velocity point.

The issue is ANZ have just recently changed how many ANZ rewards points per $ are earned on spend

1.5 Reward Points: per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to and including $2,000 per statement period

0.5 Reward Points: per $1 spent on eligible purchases above $2,000 per statement period

    • Just wondering how you were targeted for this offer?
Are you an existing ANZ customer?
I really want the bonus points, but missed to offer open to everyone, earlier in the year.

  • Can anyone comment on the travel insurance? Is it decent for free inclusion? Better or as good as buying TID or AAMI - your general affordable online Travel insurance sellers? And does it activate with flights purchases?

    • It activates when you spend more than $250 on anything for your holidays… flights, accom, tours - etc. It's fine - probably not as full featured as stand alone travel insurance but you can call them and ask for a full breakdown of whats covered before you leave on a holiday.
