Can't wait to see what other dedicated provides will offer…

yeah , people keep on telling me at work how cheap aws and azure is …… cheap compared to what, maybe inefficient internal it departments, 50c per gb pa for spindle storage i thought isn't cheap.

      • +2

        Azure, cheap? Maybe with BizSpark.

      • +1

Did they tell Azure is "cheap" or "cheaper" ?

      • +1 so very true.

Saying you're with AWS or AZURE makes you sound cool, running a dedicated server is too much work for most lazy people.

Interested to know where their data centre is in AU - http://status.ovh.com/vms/ doesn't show in this region (?) - maybe that page just hasn't been updated yet?

    • Perhaps still finalising this part of their setup or a 'work in progress' until they can prove to themselves they'll have reliability in AU.

      http://status.ovh.com.au/vms/ on a whim, but 404'd

    Price excludes GST.
    Minimum price should be $142.99

    • Thanks just adjusted price.

  • Didn't it used to be $99?

    • Was 89€ Via ovh.ie . Then they switched to 99USD ovh.com for aussies.
What happens to those users on those plans? Also I somehow ended up with different accounts under th hose domains - one is empty which is annoying as it tends to log me into that one.

    • YES! Absolutely correct it was $99US but now its $129.99AU+GST …so pretty much the same thing but actually billed in AU

      • Isn't the US/EU one billed without tax so essentially same price without GST? (which you have to pay via AUS?)

The email I received aye no change and it still get billed in the international rates

  • Had so many seedboxes in OVH's DC's! Unreal, this is a great price and can't wait for this to lower the costs of hosting across the board in Australia!

    • can't wait for this to lower the costs of hosting across the board in Australia!

I'll see it when i believe it, so many overpriced shared hosting and vps's get posted on here

      • No doubt. This will allow for cheap reselling for VPS's. I remember running a large minecraft server back in the day, was paying $140-$150 for an i3, 8gb (or 4gb can't recall 1005) ram dedicated server from SAU. If I had this I would have been cheering!

The link from previous Pre-order deal is still active for 89euro https://www.ovh.ie/discover/australia.xml

It showed 89euro plus VAT in the cart, but not sure if it will be removed later?

VaT has 0% on my invoices for ovh

  • What's the deal re: hardware failures? Assuming you're actually paying for a physical host, do you have to handle all redundancy yourself? Turnaround on really bad stuff like CPU/RAM/PSU failures?

    • They would have SLA details if there is a HW failure,
With physical you need your own redundancy but if the hardware falls over they would have the ability to move you onto a new one. This would mean you need your own backups however

      OVH's SLA:

      Level 1 without personalised diagnostic
      Example: server unavailable

      Intervention (GIT) 1 hour
Guaranteed Repair Time (GRT) GIT + 2 hours

So a hardware failure might take 3 hours to diagnose + repair.
