I thought the compression undies are a worthy mention for those of us wishing to hide our excess downstairs baggage :-)

      • The boxing gloves are also well priced
        http://aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_15006.htm

Gloves are normally at least $40

I wonder how many old folks will be lining up next week?

        • +1

Dont be fooled, they sell them for this price normally or you can get the same at bigw for 20.00 on sale.

Otherwise the gloves are good as long as you dont punch too hard then they split, but easily worth it

Yes - I bought a watch for about $50 similar to this, good bargain also

  • From the pic you can see that the software used is Igo Primo. The latest and best GPS app IMO. I can also confirm that these contain the latest R17 Sensis maps (18/03/2010) as they were recently extracted and leaked from an Aldi unit.

I personally use a Chinese 5" running WinCE6 at 800x480 resolution. Got it from Ebay and vastly superior to these 480x272 units.

    • Same , great unit and does bluetooth etc and cheaper or similar price

    • Just curious, how much did the Chinese GPS cost you and what can you search on ebay to find it?

      • think mine was 132.00 from memory , even less now

        http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313&…

Mind you ours was faulty at first then they sent us another one, so was okay

It's a bit of a funny story actually. I bought a 6" GPS from this dude in Hong Kong (Ebay) and was asking him all sorts of questions regarding firmware upgrades and changing the boot screen image etc… Didn't get much answers even after he asked his supplier. Anyway, when he realised I was really into the GPS hacking scene he sent me the 5" unit for free as he needed help with getting software working. Got it running easily and now he tells me he's gonna send me any new unit he needs help with LOL.

If you're looking for it on Ebay, just do a search (eg. "5 inch GPS") and make sure the resolution is 800x480. Most out there still run at 480x272 as people are usually more interested in screen size. Also, make sure the unit uses at least an Atlas IV (533mhz) as anything slower will not be fast enough to run the higher res smoothly.

Got the 6" for approx. AUD $180 when the exchange rate was much better a few months ago. If anyone wants it, I'm happy to let it go for $170 delivered. Upgraded with Igo Primo with latest maps along with any other country you request. Just send me a pm.

        • So how hard are these to hack? What tools (hardware/software) do you need? I'm seriously considering getting one for my Mum but I want to be able to update the firmware/maps when available.

          • @[Deactivated]: It's really just a matter of downloading the software, placing the files for maps, speedcams, points-of-interest, voice, language, in the relevant places and redirecting the target .exe file on your device. No firmware updates necessary.

  • With these products is it easy to update to new maps?
At the 12 month mark, where would you get them and how much?

    • You're meant to purchase them; at quite ridiculous prices I might add. Whereis does not sell map updates for Aldi units http://www.whereismaps.com/buy-map-updates_portable-gps-devi… . No idea why.

The closest I could find for the Aldi Go Cruise was from naviextras.com but they only sell Navteq maps not Sensis.

      • Hmmmmm, so this GPS could be a total rip off, better off getting a well priced mainstream model that supports maps that update!

        • +1

or if you know where to look, you could update it yourself

        • Call me biased but other branded units have quite crappy software. With this model you legally own Igo Primo 1.1. The only other brand worth considering (based on function) is Garmin but who would pay so much for essentially the same hardware?

          • @Livert: Yes I agree, but it just come down to taste. My dad loves the tomtom and I cant get him to use IGO.
In any case I am happy, its been a while since I updated the software in my GPS and thanks to this thread I will be trying out Primo tonight.

@Matador_OZ: Have fun. Let me know if you come across any issues. Took me a while to get UK voices text-to-speech working.

              • @Livert: thanks for the heads up, and making me aware of the software.

I was looking at and bought a gps yesterday from officeworks for $86 (i think its been on OZbargain as well) Mio A350. And free map update for 2010 maps at the end of the year.

Hey even dse had a name brand Navman for round $120 odd.

    I don't see this as a bargain.

You bought a 3.5" (can't give them away), this is a listing for a 4.3" widescreen.

The latter is ~70% larger (screen area) than yours, hence the price difference.

    • Read through the deal before voting neg.

  • Just an update. These units actually have even newer Sensis maps (12/08/2010). Released today and already leaked! LOL. You'll find it if you know where to look.

  • well just a update on the aldi gps i brought one at 9am sharp got home n gave it a trial drive n guess what it always says turn right ,turn right nd sends me in the total opposite direction that i know im suppose to go so wtf….

    • Might just be a buggy area of the map.

  • what do u mean about the buggy area

    • Roads in rural areas are not as frequently updated compared to urban areas. Information on these roads may be incorrect eg. directing you to turn at a junction where you can't physically. Any map errors can lead to incorrect route recalculations and causing you to loop endlessly.

  • hi livert,u seem to know alot about the in s n out s of a good gps,i was thinking about buying a hong kong one off ebay as i took my aldi gps bk 2day ,what is a good map softwear to look out for in the advertising the gps systems on ebay as they run off different softwears …thanks for ur time :)

    • They don't advertise the software used (usually it's an older version of Igo) as they are not licensed to sell them. Maps are unlikely to be up to date too. Send me a pm when you receive yours if you need any help installing Primo with the latest Australian maps on yours. Probably better also if you get one with a bundled microsd/SD card.

      • ok thx..i was looking on ebay just ones from hk ,but i dont know which one would be a good one to get ..i dont do that much driving but when i do need to use the gps i dont want it to keep telling me to right n send me into a totally wrong direction..lol…like the aldi s one did…so any suggestion one what would be a good one to get ? ok thx…how do i pm you on her
