$2300 is quite expensive with this spec to start with.

    • +37

Yeah my mum needs atleast a gtx 1080 for that price so that she can wreck noobs in bf1

      • -4

        Yeah my mum needs

Soo many you momma jokes … soo little time to type them all out!

      • Pass my regards…
        I want to 1v1 her.
Then when she is not expecting it, a 360 noscope shot ;)

      • Yeah my mum needs atleast a gtx 1080

Yup she told me she'd rather get this:

$1350 Way more powerful gaming desktop with i5 7500 and GTX 1080 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162282857388
$ 320 Way lighter and more portable laptop http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/332150920885

        $1670

Over $150 cheaper, and is both more portable and more powerful.

        • Powerful and comfortable laptops are useful to some of us.

        • @psdillon:

          Of course.

Just that a most people shopping for them don't realise that a basic laptop plus a desktop is cheaper than a powerful laptop. This PSA should be in every laptop thread if it has a GPU, I think.

    • +3

Yes, this was $1999 before the eBay 20% promotion started! You could buy it for almost the same price with eBay 5% off code. When the 20% code offer started by eBay, Dell jacked the price by 20%!
      http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

      • +4

Yep, Dell jacks up the price by 16% and then eBay gives you 20% off.

      • This is what all the sellers do, they're not going to suddenly start selling for a loss.

        • +1

For a loss? eBay is giving out the discount, the greedy sellers are jacking up for more profit!

        • +1

          @pal:

I believe 10% comes from ebay and 10% from the stores.

        • +4

          @pal:

eBay is giving out the discount

Do you actually think before you type? In what world do you think ebay just hands out a chunk of money to sellers?

I'm certain that ebay stores opt into this promotion by paying an upfront fee for marketing, etc or they pay a higher commission on sales with the promotion code or they pay a rebate back to ebay, based on sales.

        • +2

@psyclone1982: Not reliable source and it does not change the fact that there is no 20% discount. They could say 10% or 4% Discount, we are not stupid! Or are we?

        • +2

@sp00ker: You Might be right, but anyway it does not change the fact that there is no 20% discount.

        • @psyclone1982:

I believe 10% comes from ebay and 10% from the stores.

In other words, 10% price increase comes from ebay and 10% increase comes from store :)

      • Pretty sure Dell has agreements to not undercut its re sellers.

    • didnt we have something with 1070 for 2300 2 months back, rather get that

  • -3

Damnit! keep it on the down low before the sale actually starts. Cue price increase.

    • This has been the price in the last few 20% sales, they've never increased the price on it.

      • Ah good! This puts my paranoia at ease

    • Thankfully Dell don't usually jack their prices

  • -2

This was $1999 before the eBay 20% promotion started! You could buy it for the same price with eBay 5% off code. When the 20% code offer started by eBay, Dell jacked the price by 20%!
    F**K Dell
See it here, Dell just keeps this as expensive as they can, this is their money making line
    http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

    • -3

That's a lower end model with no GTX 1050

      • +1

Could you go and check it before talking? Are you a Dell representative?

        • You are correct, it is the same thing, my mistake.

It still sells for $2499 on their website - I don't know if this constitutes "price jacking" when the previous ebay price was 20% lower than their own price.

      • ..and 5% off $1999 equals $1899

        • So you accept Dell jacked the price!

        • @pal: the RRP is $2499.. they have occasional 15%-20% off sales

this is a 20% off sale on top of a reduced price of $2299.

        • -4

          @knackers:
I assume you wanted to say that you accept Dell jacked the price!
The point here is that you do not get that much of a discount from eBay offer of a massive 20% discount because dodgy retailers/sellers just jack the price by almost the same amount of money!

        • @pal: Nope… they replaced a 24% off sale with a 26.4% off sale. 26.4% > 24%

        • -5

          @knackers:
Look I don't see how your point is related to what I am saying! Are you defending Dell for jacking the price?

    • They aren't obliged to compound discounts on top of one another. This is a decent saving over RRP, cheaper than it was yesterday, and overall a very good deal for a damn good laptop.

      • +3

The point here is that you do not get that much of a discount from eBay offer of a massive 20% discount because dodgy retailers/sellers just jack the price by almost the same amount of money!

  • +3

IMO the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 is better value!
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-Gaming-Core…
    Similar specs except:
    128GB ssd + 1tb hdd
GTX 1050 ti (not just GTX 1050)
    16GB (not just 8GB)
Selling at $1899, then take 20% off using same code

(Note, Dell website has the Inspiron 15 7000 at $1,9999 + $300 off, dropping it to $1,699, making the ebay deal better)

    • +8

Sure similar spec. But XPS has much nicer build quality and lighter. The design is nicer but if you want raw spec sure the Inspiron is decent.

      • You could be right about the build quality of the XPS (I don't actually know, but the inspiron's build is quite good).

edit: I take it back. @Fiximol correctly identified difference between ebay and dell website Inspiron 15 7000 is 128GB ssd vs 256GB ssd

    • +1

The Inspiron gaming on the website is 256 + 1tb.

With the XPS you are paying for a better panel and decreased weight (1.8kg vs 2.7kg) at the expense of battery size.

The Inspiron definitely has better internals, but even then you are going to get the same specs if you go lenovo E570p for $50 less.

      • +1

Lenovo E570p has a lesser battery, 2GB only GTX 1050ti (I confirmed with their sales assistant), but better (IPS) screen. I'd rather have dell product and warranty than Lenovo (coming from an E560).

        • +3

Ah, yes, forgot that the lenovo has 2gb card.

          Odd choice.

        • @Fiximol: I actually already bought and am using the inspiron 15 7000. Definitely snappier and better feel than the Lenovo e560. Just waiting for my IPS (LG LP156WF6, supposedly g-sync compatible?) screen to be delivered.
Will wave my 28degree policy around for the sales.

    • -1

Yes but The point here is that you do not get that much of a discount from eBay offer of a massive 20% discount because dodgy retailers/sellers just jack the price by almost the same amount of money! This was $1999 before the eBay 20% promotion started! You could buy it for almost the same price with eBay 5% off code. When the 20% code offer started by eBay, Dell jacked the price by 20%.

      • Not sure about the XPS, since I haven't been tracking the prices, but the inspiron 15 7000 seems about right (base price on dell website matches ebay prices, not including the regular/usual discounts on the website)

    • Pretty sure this pc is like 800 in the states.

I've talked to dell before and they say they will honor international warranty if I get it here via a forwarding service.

      • The model he linked is $1,149.99 USD, = $1534.31 AUD, plus whatever shipping is to Oz.

        • Ahh I see, thought it was the base model.

          My bad!

    • Please note the gaming laptop which I currently have has been confirmed it cannot take PCIe SSD. I can only have 850Evo in there. The XPS runs PCIe default.

Some argue it's not much of a difference, having XPS with PCIe at work and this gaming inspiron at home. I can telll you there is a difference. This gaming laptop has red keyboard lighting which annoys me too.

Nonetheless it is a good value being a dell laptop with such spec. It came with a SanDisk Z400s which I swapped out for 850Evo recently.

      • Do you have the older Inspiron 7559 model? That doesn't support PCIe over M.2 but I believe the newer (linked) 7567 supports PCIe after some quick research.

        • Yes I do. Some advised getting a firmware update then 7559 could take PCIe. I asked Dell support team and they confirmed that this is m.2 SATA only. I was about to cry when 7567 released 2 months after I bought 7559. Sad…

    • xps 15 has better screen than inspiron 15

  • -5

My comment is being brigaded so I leave it here for potential customers surfing Ozbargain for a good deal from an honest seller:

"This was $1999 before the eBay 20% promotion started! You could buy it for almost the same price with eBay 5% off code. When the 20% code offer started by eBay, Dell jacked the price by 20%!"
    http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

    • Dude this typical practice. It sucks but if people want to buy it let them.

      • +1

Yes, you are absolutely right! It is very sad, but I have not stopped anybody from buying it! I stopped those who are fooling them!

      • +1

It might be typical but it's definitely illegal false advertising.

    • For the sake of said potential customers looking for a good deal from honest sellers, did you have any stores that are cheaper/more honest to suggest?

      • Hopefully, when Dell gets the point that customers are not stupid, you will get this for 20% cheaper next time! The 20% discount is from eBay, Dell has ruined it for customers!
The point here is that you do not get that much of a discount from eBay offer of a massive 20% discount because dodgy retailers/sellers just jack the price by almost the same amount of money! For any serious buyers

I bought this laptop last time the sale was on and its awesome

the 1050 is a little weak but plays most games because it is a 1080p screen

would have preferred a 4k screen but good thing I dont have to deal with those windows 10 scaling issues

    • +1

You dodged a bullet with Windows 10 and DPI scaling on 4k. 1080 is probably enough for a laptop.

BTW: How much did you pay?

      • +1

        the same price listed above

        $1839 - cashrewards

    • +1

Also for any serious buyers: as always with gaming laptops, don't forget that a more powerful gaming desktop AND a more portable and convenient laptop, put together, costs less.

      e.g.:

$800 Far more powerful gaming desktop with an RX 480: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/152322011734
$320 Far lighter and smaller Dell notebook: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/332150920885

      $1120

Hell, you could even get this top-end gaming PC with Kaby Lake i5 7500 and a GTX 1080 for only $1350: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162282857388

90% of the people who buy a gaming laptop regret it - it's not a cheap way to get both a gaming machine and a school/uni/work laptop in one, just the opposite.

The people who really need one are, e.g., those whose jobs have them travelling a lot and want to game in hotel rooms often.

      • +1

you forget the fact some people just don't have enough room for a desk top set up at home.

    • Have you gave it much of a go for video editing?

What do you use it for?

Thanks in advance (no one answered me below)

  • +1

bought mine for $1500, 20% off + $100 cashback + cashreward + gst refund = $1000 off rrp, sweet deal

    • assuming you got the $100 cashback from powerbuy, how were they to deal with?

      • +1

just uploaded the invoice and almost received the money straight away

        • I uploaded mine last week, no moneys yet, but status has been set to "approved" almost immediately after uploading receipt.

        • Powerbuy told me they don't honour the $100 cashback if the purchase is made through Ebay?

        • +1

@phungineer: I bought mine from eBay, and the recipt doesn't mention anything about ebay, so no problems at all

  • 13" is much much nicer

    • +1

      That's what she said.
      But I prefer my laptop's at 15

      • +2

too big to be practical and portable imo…. macbook pro 13" is awasome so is this 13" version or the zenbook3…

        • Incorrect

        • I think for those University lecture tables, 15" is a tad big.

    • It is nice and small, but it doesn't have a video card. It is for this reason that I got a 15.

  • +1

Battery on this is below average 57Whr

  • +1

Argh I was so ready to buy before realising the terrible battery. Hmmmm I had assumed they'd put the 97kwh in it

    • The trade off is that the smaller battery allows you to install a 2.5" SATA drive if you wish.

    • but u can put a second hard drive in

or just buy the bigger battery on ebay

    • 97,000Wh would be great!

    • I'll offer $100 for the small battery and SATA drive caddy parts (which you have to remove to fit the larger battery). Then you can put the money towards the big battery. Battery has to be reasonably new.

  • Any 13"?

  • how long does the battery last ?

  • is it dual band wifi?

    • Google it. Stop being lazy.

  • +2

Bought one about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately returning it due to moments of freezing and loud fan plus pitchy coil whining.
The freezing was occurring randomly and would just happen at anytime, upgrading graphics drivers didn't fix it.

The other issue was the built in battery estimator and icon was all always off the mark and inaccurate. As the battery decreased the time available would increase.

Prior to owning the unit I had read that users were very happy with the whole sounding loud speakers (atleast on the 9550) but for these speakers to be loud enough it has to be increased above 50% under general scenarios.

My unit was the 57w would have preferred an option for 97w easily for better battery.

This shouldn't happen with a unit at 2k+

On another note I just ordered a Lenovo X1 Carbon

    • On the same boat here. Returned the XPS 15 and ordered the Carbon a couple of days ago.

Mine had the random freezing issue as well. Although, was able to get it fixed after upgrading the drivers directly from Intel. But the fan noise was significant as the leaves were scraping their enclosure (at least I think that's the case). ETA for replacement parts was 1st week of May for a laptop I received early in March. :/

Edit : Build quality was good otherwise. Probably require a better QC process at Dell.

      • What you experienced was an exact identical to mine. Build quality is phenomenal, they just need to sit down and work out the guts/internals. Otherwise a perfect laptop.

With your Carbon if you ordered through their site, did you get a "your order needs to be further reviewed" at the summary page? I have yet to receive an email confirmation etc

        • I received the confirmation email straightaway with tracking details. Haven't shipped the unit yet though. I placed the order on Apr 28th. Estimated time to ship was 5-6 business days, so there's still time.

Have you had a chat with their sales team?

Try 1300 557 073 (option 2) or email [email protected]

        • @aholic:
I did manage to speak to a sales rep who said that the transaction did not go through, although to the consumer it sure did look like it with no errors whatsoever.

While we were on the phone we confirmed that the order went through to some holding zone.

Further to that was told that I'd get an email (yesterday) confirming the order… nothing yet.

          Kind of disappointed..

  • How would this hold up video editing from a go pro/mavic pro drone? I don't shoot in 4k as TV is not 4k

Anyone with real experience editing on this machine?

  • Looks like the base price has gone up by $200.
New after discount price of $1,999.20

  • Pretty good price considering you can upgrade the RAM and SSD in these in the future if you need to.
