  • Not a bad bundle IMHO, delivery to my postcode in Newcastle would be $56.86, which isn't particularly outrageous for an item this size, +ve from me! :)

$948 for a 46" is good enough, throw in another BR player? = Awesome!

    +ve from me :)

Don't forget that it also comes with a 3 year warranty.

AWA's are a generally a little slower to change channels than some of the other brands and the sound isn't fantastic but for the price I'd say go for it.

Response Time 6.5ms - this is similar to the Samsung they have for $798 which is not that good…

This might be a better option:

    Or

Go for older stock like a plasma for around the same price (they are negotiable at JB)Here is a 50" LG
    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/lg/50-inch-high-d…

    • Huh? According to your Kogan link:
      Panel Response time: 8ms
Since when is 8ms better than 6.5ms? :p

No point comparing Plasma to LCD either, apples & oranges! ;)

  • I had an AWA 42 LCD once. Total rubbish, the HDCP on the HDMI ports wouldn't allow 360 or PS3 to connect, the remote was craphouse. We gave it away in the end. You'd be far better off with a brand name 50" 720p or an aldi 100hz LCD one.

    • I had this model, a rebadged KTV LTW-42D I presume? Yeah, when I got it the HDMI was a known issue, easily fixed for free in my home with a single warranty phone call & new revised mobo from Korea! :D

Great TV, I upgraded to 55" but it's still going fantastic in a family member's home! ;)

      • Yeah was a KTV LTW-42D. But I didn't use the HDMI ports until I bought a ps3 a year later, and by that time the warranty was expired.

It was ok for games. The other thing was it didn't have discrete code for the inputs. But really when we got the 50" series 5 samsung it was like going big screen all over again.

Either way the only way to know is check it out at the store. You never know who the manufacturer is so it might be okay. That AWA badge sends shivers up my spine.

        • Fair enough, although I'd have tried them anyway…even if they didn't do the right thing morally, there's pretty clear legislative guidelines (Fair Trading act) on the reliability expectations for big ticket consumer items; that one year warranty doesn't absolve AWA of the responsibility for providing reasonably reliable products! Good point to remember for next time something like this happens! ;)

Yeah, I'm pretty pedantic about checking out who the rebadge comes from on my non-big branded stuff, serial numbers usually give them away, most resellers are pretty lazy & just keep the manufacturers' conventions! :)

Looks cheap, but I won't get anything under 100mhz.
AWA doesnt specify what refresh rate this TV is, but I would expect it to be 50mhz.

I don't want this to come across as nasty; but honestly, some of you guys really need to educate yourselves as to what the different terminologies actually mean and their practical ramifications before you start throwing terms & numbers around! ;)

      • then if you don't want to be nasty then why not do a simple plain english glossary in the forums

        • I learned for myself, I can't see why you guys can't do yourselves a favour & put in that little effort too! Being spoonfed won't really result in an adequate learning experience; some self-paced & self-directed learning just might though! ;)

You'd be surprised what you can find from a little known site called Google! ;)

          • @StewBalls: Goooooogle will google you all around 5+ve and 3-ve ;).
Sometimes I think, TV companies pay to review companies and forums to fill rumors for the specs, they dont have.
            I think, trust your eyes.
Go to a store and see the difference. 100 hz has better refresh rate than 50hz.

So dont be overconfident with what you read is absolute truth.

Personal attack my backside, this comment is barely lucid, it makes little sense at all, how's that???

Now, as I said, gagans; you tell us what 100hz means, how it works, and why it is better???

I'm not holding my breath for a reply, as I've previously stated, most folks don't know what these technologies actually do, they just parrot figures & delude themselves into thinking they're seeing something they're not!!! :p

              • +1

@StewBalls: Sort of what you're talking about: Mum in law always bragging about how their 50" is Full HD. That would be all good to brag about if you watched anything other than SD content. :p

                • @tomsco: Yep, not to mention once you get back say 3 metres, the human eye cannot distinguish the difference between 720p & 1080p on a screen even that size! :)

Lol, I just checked out SD @ 55"; OMG, you really should show 'em how to get to the HD channels dude, letting them watch SD content at that size is cruel & unusual punishment! :p

If you are investing 'big' money for a TV that will hopefully last a few years, then a few hundred more dollars for better quality is worth it in my mind, especially if you get thousands of hours of enjoyment from it. I would rather have an excellent 40" than mediocre 46". Wait for the free PS3 promotion if you need blue ray.

    • How is this comment any different to the Apple platform trolls that are routinely pointed out or removed; yet my comment gets removed for doing so???

abacus has no contribution to this deal per se; only to say the brand mentioned is not up to his/her standard!!!

      • I think he mentioned it twice in his comments that this is his personal opinion on the tv offered on this deal. I don't see how this is trolling.

        • Fair enough, but remember that next time the Apple haters are offering their "personal opinion"! ;)

  • +1

I would remove the comment if I could - only wanted to offer something constructive.

For example, some people would prefer a smaller better diamond than a larger not-as-good-quality diamond, both costing the same. Personal preference not meant to offend anyone.

    • Cheers mate, you're right, it is all personal preference, but I tend to give most people the credit for the ability to make an informed decision! Except gagans of course, I'm still not entirely sure what he's on about! :p

I honestly believe paying for a brand name doesn't always get you a commensurate increase in quality; (in fairness) sometimes yes, however IME more often no! For instance, the equivalent Sony/Pana/Pioneer etc to most entry level sets are twice the price, yet they are not double the quality or features! IMHO, that's not smart shopping! Again, as you rightly point out, that's personal preference! ;)

I apologise for my reaction, I should've been a little more erudite in the first place!

  • No worries - keep on keeping the bastards honest.
