6.5ms response time … wouldn't that be noticible during action scene's?

    • -2

It's $498! I dare you to find a better deal with the same specs but better response time…It's cheap, you're not buying a mercedes here.

      • +1

        Whooaaa!

        Steady on young lovedeals.

You're obviously the Big W CEO or a major shareholder…

        • -2

Nope, no affiliation with them at all! Just sick of the cowboys on here.

          • +2

@lovedeals: I think weezlebub has asked a perfectly polite & valid question.

Not everyone on here is a top-gun hardware engineer.

And very kindly, Radar gave a good subjective answer.

            • @Horizon: Cheers for the support lad's! i just remembered trying to play FPS games on an old 7ms computer monitor and it was painful, figured similar specs and similar senario would be similar problem …

              thanks for the answer radar!

              • +1

@weezlebub: The human eye isn't capable of perceiving much under 10ms IIRC, and IME anything under 8ms is fine even for games; 7ms would not be "painful" by any stretch! A lot of supposedly "faster" monitors really aren't that much of an improvement, those low numbers they quote are only for gtg, not true btb response! ;)

I suspect your issues were not related to the panel response time, but some other problem either idiosyncratic to that particular monitor (input lag?), or software/setup related (even something as simple as vsync can play havoc with some games)!

    • +2

I have one of these and don't notice it.

      • Thank you Radar.

  • Couldn't find the T&C for the 3 year warranty anywhere.

    In-house? RTB? Replacement?

No point in Big W referring to the manufacturer's warranty if they don't provide it or link to it.

    • -2

Im sure a company like BIG W will honour the warranty…Its not dodgybrothers.com.

      • -1

I refer you to my original warranty comment.

What will they be actually honouring?

        • I refer you to my reply…stop trying to nit pick! Call them if you're concerned and share the info with us all.

          • @lovedeals: So you feel strongly that trying to obtain & read a product's warranty Terms & Conditions before buying it is simply nit-picking?

I think I might just have a few things I could sell you…with a warranty of course.

      • +4

BTW, just for the kids- don't actually check out dodgybrothers.com. I just did…

      • +2

Yeh, but dodgybrothers.com is selling this for $497 :p

      • Just spoke to BIG W…In house repair or replacement for any faults within 3 yrs.

        • Thanks for that, lovedeals.

I definitely wasn't criticizing you per se, or the deal you posted.

I was just commenting on the fact that I couldn't find - on the Big W site - either the relevant warranty, or a link to it.

          Simply that.

          • @Horizon: Yep, incompetence on their behalf. All rectified now, so are you purchasing one?

            • @lovedeals: In their defence, it's probably noteworthy that it appears to be fairly standard practice for warranty on any TV larger than 80cm to be "in-home" rather than RTB! I could be wrong, but I've not seen one that isn't, big brand or otherwise IME! ;)

I've owned one of these for 5 months or so. Good picture, but some issues:

    VERY slow to change channels, esp between hd and sd channels;

    Overscan can't be switched off or adjusted (edge of pic cropped);

    1:1 pixel mapping via VGA input only (not sure about component input);

Some channels lose sync between audio and video (sometimes unwatchable!).

I've been tempted to return it but don't think I'll get much of a response, as I think the points I've made are just the way the sets are as standard….

    • Thanks for the review…With all that said, would you pay $498 for this again?

      • That's a good question! Probably not, BUT it's still a lot of tv for the money, and it's good as an occasional use bedroom set (that's where I use mine). The overscan issue will be a problem for some but not for others, and the lip sync prob only seems to be on ABC News 24 channel(?!). I'd personally spend an extra couple of hundred on something else (what, I don't know, so don't ask!!) if I wanted to get another 32" set, and check the set out thoroughly for any of the above issues before I parted with my cash!

        • Thanks for the write up. It is for the bedroom so Im not too fussed!

  • wot a ugly pos y dun u buy a samsung 4 700 buckeroonies

    • Do I win an award for deciphering your 'pos'?

      • LMAO…Id like to know too

    • y dun u show us where?

    • +2

How about trying to speak english, that way someone might answer your question this isnt fast fours

      • You talking to me? Or Scampy?

        • +1

I think he / she was talking to beatlebob. I think its a good deal btw lovedeal, for less then $500.

    • +1

He said: What an ugly piece of sh1t. Why don't you buy a Samsung for $700.

  • +1

    because $200 doesn't just fall off trees…

    and Samsung 1yr warranty ftl

  • For the tech guru's, can you please advise if this is a better unit?

I'd be tempted to keep an eye on these guys:

      http://stores.ebay.com.au/Kogan-Direct

Excellent reviews, and looks like some bargains to be had if you're patient…

      • Only 12 month warranty on those products though. The visea has a 3yr warranty.

        • -1

I know! Swings and roundabouts, eh? It's a tough call….

          • +2

            @Siadwell: I personally wouldn't buy a big-ticket item off eBay, but that's just me!

I used to despise Aldi, but they've really upped their warranty game, and I still see these around all the time at Aldi stores:
            http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_14540.htm

Not that I've got anything against this current deal, just food for thought! ;)

            • -1

@StewBalls: I agree that you have to be careful when you buy something off ebay, but there are some very reputable sellers on there, Kogan Direct being one of them, and you can't ignore the excellent reviews that Kogan have had in general, try googling them….and I don't work for them by the way! It's just my opinion (",)

              • +4

@Siadwell: Thanks for joining today to let us all know how great Kogans are…..

              • @Siadwell: Friends of our bought a Kogan a few years ago and had to send it back 2x for repairs. NO local repairers so was away for months.

            • @StewBalls: Damn that looks good…is it current though?

              • +1

@lovedeals: In my local area (Newcastle, NSW) I've been to at least 3 Aldi stores; 1 as recently as yesterday (Cardiff); that still had this model prominently displayed near the front counter @ $499…it's a slightly older deal, but they still seem to have stock!

FWIW though, I just opened the new BigW cattledog, they've got a 32" LED model now for $697, so if you can stretch the budget that beats the Aldi LED in the same size by $100!!! ;)

IMO if you buy a fptv that's not Panasonic, LG or Sanyo you are taking pot luck.
As mentioned by one AWA owner above the tuner in cheap sets are far weaker resulting in slow changing and also lower signal gain. If you are in a weak reception area you will need a good antenna with B grade tvs.
A friend left a 32" AWA here while he was moving and he said we could use it… honestly it was a pathetic piece of junk.
Are "no-name" tvs a bargain at any price? You may be lucky…
For the little more $ to get a better quality product you will get a lot more for your money.

    • +1

My goodness, what a wealth of information you are; pity it's all based on supposition & crackpot theories! Now firstly, "fptv", is that Festival Portugese TV or Front Projection TV? Neither acronym encompasses the LCD technology under discussion here, nice try though! :p

Slow channel changes are not unique to cheaper sets, not by a long shot…most manufacturers have at least a few models that have slow changes for one reason or another! The slowest channel changes I've seen are some of the big brands, LG are not so great, and a few Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung & Sony sets are notorious for abysmal change times, as are quite a few STBs; try googling mate, or check out the DTV forums; you might learn a little! If you wanna be a tryhard brand snob mate, you'd better get Sanyo out of your A-Team, most folks in the know will spot you as a fraud on that play immediately! BigW sells them at bargain prices mate, you're lauding the very sets you are badmouthing, ROFLMAO!!! ;)

So what if the half-price sets aren't any better; get some perspective!
