  • how much does this unit suck compared to the "bigger" ones?
(ie - is the revolutionary sucking power of a Dyson in a unit like this good enough to replace a standard bagged or bagless "normal" vacuum cleaner?

These are great for pet hair cleanups and the like - not as a replacement for normal vacuums. I still use a regular corded vacuum at least once every two weeks around the house. Maybe compared to cheap corded vacuums this performs as well, but I always find the corded dyson ball one picks up quite a bit more than these.

It really sucks. (Excuse the bad pun)
I've had mine for a couple of years, and it is very convenient to just pick up and do spot cleaning.
While it cleans well, you might find the battery doesn't last long enough to do the whole house.
People who vacuum often may be able to do it in one charge but doing a thorough clean of a 2 bedroom unit would be the limits. YMMV.
I have a corded vacuum that I occasionally use for full cleaning, but this cordless one gets used more often.

Out of the Dysons, only the V8 could replace a normal vacuum cleaner imho.

        Agree.
V8 is the one that ticks all the boxes - just far overpriced.
The longer battery life, powerful motor, much easier dust release and addition of a filter are the selling points for me

Yes it is way overpriced. I would have never paid full price for the Absolute, but when you can get them for under $680 plus cashback Ozbargain price, I jumped at it and very glad I did. One thing I have noticed over the V6 is that none of the 3 heads that come with it, seem to get hair stuck in them. It's almost like they self clean. With 3 long haired women in the house, I was always removing the head on the V6 to cut the hair out of it. With the V8, I haven't done it once as yet. It might be the larger head design, I dunno, but it works.

A standard bagged vacuum sucks better than a corded Dyson. This one is cordless so less than a corded Dyson. So the answer is no. Source: owns a DC07, DC29 and a DC35. The DC35 is a piece of junk btw.

      • You can't compare this to those cordless vacs, they were toys compared to the newer ones.

We use a Dyson (Animal - non slim head) as our primary vacuum. Works better than the unit built into the house and probably as well as a lower end Miele ($200 - $300 range) too without the hassle of cords.

We have a three bedroom + study place with two living areas and have no issue cleaning the house within the 20min afforded by the battery.

Biggest complaint is the motorised head and the dust bucket are a bit of a pain to clean. My wife has long hair that loves to get trapped in the head. Not hard to clean it per-se, just a bit annoying. First few times we used the vacuum we had to empty it a couple of times within a single clean (that built in vacuum must have been missing a lot), but now days we can get through a clean with only needing to dump the bucket at the end.

The convenience of it lends itself to us cleaning a bit more often too. Also convenient for cleaning cars when used with an appropriate attachment.

  • Thanks

  • Hi just wanted to ask if somebody could confirm the following

    1. All V6 have the same core parts (motor, battery etc) only the accessories vary?
    2. You can purchase the accessories (hardwood floor cleaner, the small nozzle for car/couch etc) separately?

Does anybody know if its more cost effective to purchase the a Dyson bundle or simply just buy the accessories that you require.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Not a definitive answer but based on my observations;
      1. Yes, it appears so
      2. Yes you can, but attachments are pricey in general. If there is a particular cleaning head you really need, probably best to get the model that comes with the desired attachment, when they're on sale. (Although it seems only the base model goes on sale frequently)
Dyson has a car kit that will fit V6, with small motorised head, flexible hose, crevice tool and brush tool. There was a deal on this kit on ozb a while ago.
