I tried some at Christmas and they were nice :)
But I might've done something wrong as it took me much longer to get them cooked than it said.

It was a dark and stormy night……

        • +3

          Snoopy’s Novel, 12 July 1965

          Part I
It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly, a shot rang out! A door slammed. The maid screamed.
Suddenly, a pirate ship appeared on the horizon!
While millions of people were starving, the king lived in luxury. Meanwhile, on a small farm in Kansas, a boy was growing up.

          Part II
A light snow was falling, and the little girl with the tattered shawl had not sold a violet all day.
At that very moment, a young intern at City Hospital was making an important discovery. The mysterious patient in Room 213 had finally awakened. She moaned softly.
Could it be that she was the sister of the boy in Kansas who loved the girl with the tattered shawl who was the daughter of the maid who had escaped from the pirates?
          The intern frowned.
“Stampede!” the foreman shouted, and forty thousand head of cattle thundered down on the tiny camp. The two men rolled on the ground grappling beneath the murderous hooves. A left and a right. A left. Another left and right. An uppercut to the jaw. The fight was over. And so the ranch was saved.
The young intern sat by himself in one corner of the coffee shop. He had learned about medicine, but more importantly, he had learned something about life.
          THE END

  • Store special or oz wide?

    • Don't know, saw this at Aldi Kwinana WA

    • Seems to be store special. Never seen them half price in any stores at VIC. Plus never seen them in stock now.

      • +5

Just got back from Aldi Southern River, no lobbys on display.

Will have to console myself with a 8-pack of Knoppers :(

I wonder which ocean has been plundered this time. Probably not Australian bordering ocean.

    • Looks more Cray than Lobster (Aus standards of terminology).

      • Cray is better than lobster IMO
        Sweeter

        • +3

          Cray Cray!

  • We tried this once. It's "OK" if you remember it's "frozen food" and what not. Not sure we'd pay the normal price for it again to have another crack at making it better, but for $15 we probably would :)

  • -1

Original cost is almost $90 per Kg .. :-( .. !! Monkfish is an excellent substitute for cray, similar texture and flavour, at about 1/3rd the price. But wait, you can only get it in the Northern Hemisphere .. :-( .. !!. Next OS trip perhaps .. :-) .. !!

    • Or you can catch a Red Scorpion Fish A.K.A. Poor Man's lobster.

In the USA at least 2 studies have found around 50% of seafood sold in the USA is not what it's claimed to be.

One can only hazard a guess as to how bad this issue is in Australia. I buy John West frozen fish a lot and the fish does seem to change an awful lot for allegedly being 1 species all the time.

  • +2

Where does the lobster tail come from?

  • +9

I ate two boxes of these at Christmas time, which is also my birthday, so I felt justified. I think they were $20ea on special then, not being a lobster aficionado I thought they were pretty nice, I added extra garlic and butter. The instructions are to defrost in the fridge for 24 hours, cooking time is only a few minutes, very juicy and tender. I think, but don't quote me on this, that they are product of USA. Maine lobster?

Edit: Product of Bahamas, I checked with Aldi, no stock in SA and they apparently haven't been available since xmas as they are seasonal produce, probably a store special.

  • +1

People in Kwinana catch their own fresh lobster. Much better.

  • +1

I'm spoilt and have lobsters out the front of my house.
And Rockingham crays when I visit the grandparents..
Free is good, fresh is better!
    Sorry for gloating, not sorry

Turns out chinese caught frozen lobster isn't worth the price of a good restaurant cooked steak.

    • +1

where the hell do you get a good steak for $15? must be really low quality

      • -3

Turns out it's two lobster tails. Well You can actually get a good 2 for 1 deal on rump tonight at a local pub for $30, it's decent. Does that count? You don't have to microwave it yourself like the lobster.

  • anymore left at Kwinana OP? the pic shown is after you bought 6 or before?

    • There was/were probably about 10 or so when I left. Dunno about now.

  • These are leftovers from Christmas. I've seem them in the occasional ALDI store and they've been keeping them since nobody was buying.
Costco lobsters are pretty well priced too at $37-38. Better quality imho.

  • +1

now going to impress the mistress with freshly caught lobster tail from Maine USA, well thats what im gonna tell her =)

  • It is probably store specific.none in several aldi in vic today.

  • +1

It would only be leftover stock from Christmas. Very few stores will have.

    • would not be hard to see what stores had what stock. I bet i could find out what stores had what stock before you:)

I cried on the inside when I thought of lobster being frozen in a packet.

    Mmmm rubber

    Hi
Almost never post but always check ozbargain. And honestly I'm no radical greeny. However went to a place called Walkers Cove on a friends boat last year out from Stuart Florida ( on an island holiday) where thes lobsters are sourced, and honestly they drag them in pull them apart while their alive ,just after they are caught .It was terrible how they were harvested. Now i love crays have caught them off Port fairy in vic . Just have to give a heads up because it was a shocking experience to come across how it occurs.Would never buy one from there. (And i know their cheap)

    • -8

Um, lobsters have a brain the size of a small pea. They don't feel pain.

    • Sounds better than the usual method of being boiled alive.

  • +1

Look the same sort of lobster tails they serve on cruises. As they primarily operate in that area e.g. Royal Caribbean, it also seems likely.

    • +5

LOL I love that you have made that connection…… based on nothing but a similar name/area. HAHAHA Post of the day!

  • how do you cook these? microwave? oven? no other spices needed?

    • let defrost in the hot sun for a few days.. you will know they are ready to eat by the smell :)

    • +1

You microwave them on high for 15 minutes like all seafood, then use hammer to tenderise, before cutting it into micro pieces with very sharp knife!!

  • -2

discounted close to expiring seafood.. shut up and take my money :) i dont see anything that could go wrong i need a good enema cleanse

  • +1

Why can't they just sell live lobster in a box instead, we like fresh do we not?

  • What's "Caribbean" lobster?
    From the Caribbean?
    Caribbean flavor?
Also how do you say Caribbean? is it CARRA-BE-UN or CURR-EE-BE-UN?

    • +1

      CARR-UH-BEAN! XD

  • Wonder why only some stores in WA are getting a product from the Caribbean…
