  • Not worth $5 IMO. Very limited and fussy with the files it plays.

  • I mostly want it for Divx - Xvid stuff so if that works I'm happy :)

    • Thats what I wanted it for too. But it would play Xvid, but not Divx. So took it back.

  • I think JB Hifi sales these for $49 even when they aren't on sale:

I bought one ages ago for $34 at Harvey and I think Bing Lee had them for $33 too a while back.

  • I was comparing to the prices on Staticice

  • Seems to play divx files fine just tried a few now :)

    • Sorry. Must be the other way around then. I have a collection of TV shows that are a mix of Xvid and Divx. Some would be recognised and some wouldn't.

Shame, as I thought it was a nifty little gadget with a nice user interface. Just proved to be more frustrating than anything. However, YMMV.

  • I bought one of these from DSE (price matched for ~$35) and it plays everything I have tried which are just commonly found movie and tv shows downloaded from BitTorrent. They are probably XviD files but I don't see why DivX wouldn't work (since everything plays DivX these days).

Here is the product website which states the supported formats: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=681

  • Can't you get a DVD-payer for $30 with USB/AVI ?

I paid $50, but that was years ago.

    • Yeah, I think Aldi & GoLo have them for about that IIRC; but their file support is no better than what folks are reporting about the WD mini! I've also got a Samsung DVD recorder that plays DivX/Xvid, but support is pretty sketchy on that too, mainly limited to certain iterations of the various codecs, not global support sadly! ;)
