Ignore comments about the "trend." They're an anti-stress toy, not a fashion statement.

    • +6

They're not a trend, fashion toy and it's even been proven they do SFA as a medical tool. Can't wait for them to be irrelevant in 1 and a half weeks from now

Judging by the down votes I would say most have taken it to be an insult :(

          dw i love you scrooge

        • Have you tried a fidget cube? Fidget spinners are great, though usually end up being extremely distracting in classroom or other productive environments. It's to the point they've been banned in most schools locally due to the distracting nature of them, though fidget cubes have shown to increase productivity of some students.

(If he's a younger child this may not matter at all yet - anything that keeps him happy is great! But during school ages productivity is also a factor)

My spouse (school teacher) hates these.

    • +18

Can confirm. As a part time school assistant, these things have the exact opposite effect on kids. They have been banned in all our classrooms because they cause kids to not focus. I find they would rather focus on the spinner than on actual learning.

While i can see the benefits of these things as a "toy" and they are fun to "play" with, but as someone who is a habitual fidgeter, these do nothing for me other than give me something to do for 2 mins until i get bored. What i have found to be a massive help is the fidget cubes. I believe that fidget cubes could have some possible real world applications because it has 6 different faces to roll around in your hand, but a spinning triangle piece of plastic? I'm not convinced.

On a slightly side note, for years i carried around a counting clicker as my own version of a fidget cube. Cant focus and feeling fidgetity, click some numbers on this bad boy.

When you say they are banned in all your classrooms - are there toys you allow the kids to play with in the middle of a class?

To me it's like saying "we have banned heroin in all our classrooms because it causes kids not to focus". We assume neither of these things are welcome in the classroom.

        • +4

No, heroin is still ok for kids. So long as it hasn’t been cut with sugar or fat. Seriously, what kind of comment is that? I am sure heroin is banned in classrooms for reasons other than because it causes kids to not focus. And yeah, heroin and fidget spinners are totally in the the same group when it comes to classroom disruptions. Nice comparison.

And yes, being mostly Kinder and year 1 kids that I work with, there are most certainly toys that are utilised as part of a learning process.

        • @pegaxs:

Mmm I guess I explained it poorly. How about instead of heroin, which was not said in earnest by the way, we substitute in mobile phones as the example. Can't believe you took my comment deadpan seriously…

My thinking is your comment singles out fidget spinners as being banned as if they ever had a chance to not be or aren't banned in other school classrooms. I would assume all toys are banned in the classroom. Sure some toys might be used with permission and as part of a lesson or maybe some allocated free time - but kids can't just bring in a toy from home and play with it throughout class. So why "fidget spinners are banned in our classrooms" and not "all toys are banned in our classrooms and these are no exception"? The former seems overly obvious to me

        • -1

@hetzjagd: A: sorry, sarcasm isn't easy to detect on a text forum.

B: I mentioned only fidget spinner being banned because basically, that's what this thread is about. While, yes, mobile phones would have made a better reference than heroin, I didn't bother mentioning every other toy because they are not topical at the moment nor relevant to this thread. As an example, a matchbox fire truck toy isn't marketed as a form of "therapy" and they would not be a class time item. Fidget spinners are marketed as a focus enhancement device, when it works the complete opposite.

Now if this was a thread about "any" toys in class rooms, I can see your point, but it isn't.

        • -1

          @pegaxs:

Oh well by that logic there's a thread here for Bose QC35 Headphones https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/308487 Better go let them know they're banned in the classroom too!

        • @hetzjagd: Are they the latest "therapy" device that kids are taking to school and trying to put on in the middle of class time?

And by your logic, you could go to the same thread and compare them to heroin.

        • @pegaxs:

We disagree as to how much the fidget spinners have been marketed as tools rather than toys and how much of that marketing as a tool would be taken with a grain of salt by a sensible person.

    • +5

Can also confirm (I'm a teacher). Have managed to confiscate quite a few (for collection till the end of the day). Seems to be popular till year 10. The seniors don't seem to be interested at all where I am.

Have even had a student purchase these (presumably online and in bulk) and is apparently selling them at school for a nice profit.

They're a clever marketing ploy to help Chinese manufacturers shift their stock of out-of-spec bearings

A fidget spinner keeps spinning for a prolonged period because its inertia is great in proportion to its air resistance.

A rotor on the other hand can only fly if its lift is greater than its weight. A fidget would need low weight and high inertia to fly for a sustained period. Unfortunately the high inertia of a fidget comes from its high mass which also gives it a high weight.

Equally interesting, did you know that most mammals big or small take about 12 seconds to take a dump?

Remember when a man got one of these stuck up his ass and had to goto the hospital to get it removed? Was on news a few days ago. Must be dangerous!

Make sure to change the currency to AUD to get it at $1.59, save like 5c.

  • They say 10-20day shipping, my orders from early April have not arrived.
Forums say to expect 2-3months for shipping.

  • +7

Why buy this one when you can get the Rolls Royce one for about $65AUD from Amazon plus shipping - ball bearings must be made from the smooth droppings of a rare Albanian forest monkey!

    • But it doesn't ship to Aus :(

Hey guys I take amphetamines on some days and the other days I use a fidget spinner which also gets me high.

    • Can you supply me some, you know, fidget spinners?

You can get them for $2 off Ebay.

  • Better off getting a fan…

Learn to flick / spin pens. Those were my fidget spinners in the old days. Requires skill and is a good time waster. You'll always have a pen handy in a classroom and it can't be banned =)

    • -1

those skills come naturally if you're asians ahhahaha

  • I personally suffer from ADHD and take ritalin daily.

Is this a marketing ploy to buy these or you serious?

    • I don't know but I kinda want some ritalin now.

  • Why would you wait a month to save 40c when you can get them for $2 from the local crap emporium??

  • I'm getting some custom ones 3d printed, no idea how it's going to work with PLA.

    • +1

Reasonably well, actually. I had issues where my son dropped his and split the layers on one side, but apart from that it was a cheap (10c of PLA, free bearings I had spare) investment.

      • Aha, I just got some stuff printed and posted! Maybe it will be more sturdy with and then?

  • Bought 3, just spend 32 dollars last Thursday in a shopping centre to please the kids…

  • 2 thumbs, free, just TWIDDLE them

  • Code 'Spinner2' worked for me…

  • Has anyone found this cheaper than $3.99? I am thinking of buying from this seller but isn't a top rated seller.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hand-Spinner-Tri-Fidget-Tri-Spinn…?

    • Reject shop for $4

  • +3

Just received my order of ten figdets. I don't want to say they are absolute crap and you get what you pay for because they only cost a $1.60 but for $16 I could have got a couple of good ones. I opened one and all three arms are cracked and the inside discs fall out. I presume all the other 9 are also broken. Absolute rubbish as they are noisy when spinning and don't spin for long.

  • Can confirm, quality is absolute crap - one of the arm is cracked + it's really loud. It's also much heavier than a normal spinner.

    • Why don't you neg the deal to save people's money and frustration for next time they are on 'special'. They are also a swallowing hazard for small kids.

      • +1

I already revoked my + vote, hence can't neg.

  • +1

Still not arrived. I had ordered 4.

    • I'm not sure if you would be happier getting them or not getting them. Not only are they crap but they are probably selling all the broken ones. Funny it got 77 votes. I've got a cheap bridge I'm trying to sell.

  • +2

Mine arrived today - both fell apart and are rusty and crap. Had to throw out as a choking risk.

  • +1

Mine arrived yesterday after 4 weeks!! Absolutely the worse spinner ever! Not even worth giving these out for free and definitely took way too long to deliver. The bearing was completely rusty and very noisy. Looks like they ripped them out of old skate board wheels …. really really bad quality!

  • Will not buy from this seller again. Poor quality and lack of communications.
